for me, hitting lows like him is relatively easy, as I have a very deep voice, it's his high screams that I have trouble with, when I do them, they either sound like a cat hacking up a hairball, or the sound right, but it hurts my throat.

Well the majority of Death metal is very low grunts, with no dynamic ranges in pronunciation and pitch - which is very understandable to hate :-p But Randy, from LoG and even Chuck from Death (RIP) use a very talented way to perform their growl/screeches that is fluent with the instruments, and doesn't shit all over things with a low-based growl you couldn't make out the lyrics if you knew them kinda vocals.
