i hated the trailer for this movie. im suprised i saw it in the theatres at that time but i was extemely happy with it. probably one of my favorite movies just because it is there to be entertaining and not too serious. if you take this movie seriously you need to get a clue.

Youtube is that "something else" you refer to. There's absolutely no reason why tMPC shouldn't be allowed to give his opinion about a film on YouTube. If you take a quick look around you'll find that it's a common trend. And as for movies copying from one another, there's a difference between being inspired and out right plagiarism. Alien for example is influenced by dozens of existing films, but only used this as a base to create something new. Doomsday doesn't even try.
I agree with Eclipse... YouTube is a free medium and his channel is devoted to movie rating... So if you don't like his opinions then don't watch his channel...

I loved this movie. And in the commentaries they did say they used pieces of other movies. In simple words they said they wanted to do something different from what they used to do and just have fun with it. I had a blast watching it so I'm quite happy. And anyway these days all we're getting is crappy remakes of older movies so there isn't much to ask for anyway. ^^
Sol made a much better entrance than Lord Humongus and that scene alone made this movie worth watching. Plus they played a great old Fine Young Cannibals song at the beginning of that cannibalism/warlord entrance scene. How cool is that?! Lord Humongus did have a better lackey announcing his arrival though. "Ayatollah of Rock and Rollah" is my all time favorite title for a post-apocalyptic bad guy.

My father and me wondered how all the crazy people could have so many Molotov cocktails prepared for people they didn't even know were still alive or why those guys in suits have lights on in their helmets when that would hurt their vision or how they could fit so many crazies in one room or not be seen for so long and then spring a trap.... stupid movie... very stupid movie.

If no one idea could be used twice, movies would have stopped being made like, ten years after they started being made. I think it was really cool. i've seen doomsay and it was funny as hell in some places. it was tong in cheek and didn't hide the rip offs, you should watch it and see if you agree

No the movie does NOT "pretend to be something original and revolutionary" Of course it is a rip-off of all the 80's post-apocalypse movies - thats blatantly obvious. (notice the 80's soundtrack used). It is not supposed to be a milestone in art,it is supposed to make money. Rented this movie. This review is dead on. They took elements from every post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller from the past 30 years and put them in a blender. They didn't even try to hide the fact that it was ripped off. The song in the end credits is basically the same song from 28 days later(godspeed you black emperor is the band I think) but played by a different artist.

28 Days and weeks was unique in it's genre, they are not zombie movies they are humans infected with a rage virus who kill people in every way they can (hitting, kicking and yes even biting if needed) they are not zombies if they get shot in the chest 2 times they die...a zombie doesn't and that is not the case in 28 Days. Like i said 28 Days is unique in it's genre and on of the few Post apocalyptic movies that is actually good

For all those who say its a 'homage' - its not. Its a rip off. Theres a difference between taking inspiration from ideas and copying scenes and/or ideas.
And the car chase wasn't that good - you could tell that the car was going slow around the corners!!

I think the trouble is that the film seems to have been badly marketed in the USA- where, as you say, it gets described as Original, Groundbreaking etc. Here in the UK it was made clearer that this film was a homage to all the directors favourite movies and a way of paying tribte to them. So thats why theres so many Mad Max references etc. Personally I think as homage this movie works, and in any case I loved the film.
this film is soooooo bad ass...one of the best action movies iv seen in a long time...who gives a fuck if its similar to other movies..now if it was similar(or ripped off) and the scenes were not as good then thats diff...these action scenes were straight up NO HOLDING BACK ACTION, its not like they said this was gonna be some amazing deep movie with a inner meaning on the movie trailer...it said it was gona be a actoin ovie, and delivered and more..relaz n just enjoy the movie.
Mate that's the point, but that doesn't ditract from the movies entertainment value as long as you're willing to except that the purpose of the movie is to be violent, bloody and action packed. Just sit back, enjoy the ride and look at it for what it is, a violent bloodthirsty action thriller that tries to pack in as many different references to other action movies thus making it (in my view) bloody excellent.
Do you really think it's possible to make a totally original film today?

I watched and liked 28 weeks later , resident evils parts , mad max, there is similarities , but its a mix of grate ideas . I liked movie . There wasnt to many similarities so it not ended like other romantic same comedys or whatsoever

I enjoyed this movie because I took it as no more than an homage to all those movies I love like Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, Escape From New York etc.
Neil Marchall wasn't trying to hide it because he made this out of his love for those movies. But I agree that if the audience is looking for something original when they see this movie they're fucked.

I understand and respect what you are saying, but just because an idea has been used, doesn't mean it can't be used again. If no one idea could be used twice, movies would have stopped being made like, ten years after they started being made. I think it was really cool. That doesn't mean I didn't think don't it used ideas that were used before.

I rly liked this movie. Yea it wasn't vry original... but what recent movies are? I mean there hasn't been a movie(or tv show) i couldn't guess the ending to since the first SAW. AND he forgot the super kewl eyeball that was a camera thing! That was kewl...Over all it was an entertaining "cotton candy" movie. It's fun but there isn't much there.

....and even though audiences will see similarities to recent stuff such as 28days later, resident evil, planet terror etc. The majority of the target audience (teenagers) will not have seen escape from new york, MadMax2&3,the warriors etc. And if originality is the be all and end all of a movies quality then i guess there is no hollywood movies you have enjoyed in the last decade.

No the movie does NOT "pretend to be something original and revolutionary" Of course it is a rip-off of all the 80's post-apocalypse movies - thats blatantly obvious. (notice the 80's soundtrack used). It is not supposed to be a milestone in art,it is supposed to make money. And it delivers entertainment more than the vast majority of shit that hollywood has pumped out over the last 10 years.

Rented this movie. This review is dead on. They took elements from every post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller from the past 30 years and put them in a blender. They didn't even try to hide the fact that it was ripped off. The song in the end credits is basically the same song from 28 days later(godspeed you black emperor is the band I think) but played by a different artist.

28 Days and weeks was unique in it's genre, they are not zombie movies they are humans infected with a rage virus who kill people in every way they can (hitting, kicking and yes even biting if needed) they are not zombies if they get shot in the chest 2 times they die...a zombie doesn't and that is not the case in 28 Days. Like i said 28 Days is unique in it's genre and on of the few Post apocalyptic movies that is actually good

For all those who say its a 'homage' - its not. Its a rip off. Theres a difference between taking inspiration from ideas and copying scenes and/or ideas.
And the car chase wasn't that good - you could tell that the car was going slow around the corners!!

totally agree with the last comment. I went into this film expecting a big 80s homage fest and thats what i got right down to the sound track. Think your comments were a bit pointing out the obvious. Really enjoyed the film, not one of my favourites but still good. great to see a can of tennents lager(Cheep Scottish Lager) make an appearance, that just rounded it off nicely for me.. ha

I think the trouble is that the film seems to have been badly marketed in the USA- where, as you say, it gets described as Original, Groundbreaking etc. Here in the UK it was made clearer that this film was a homage to all the directors favourite movies and a way of paying tribte to them. So thats why theres so many Mad Max references etc. Personally I think as homage this movie works, and in any case I loved the film.

this film is soooooo bad ass...one of the best action movies iv seen in a long time...who gives a fuck if its similar to other movies..now if it was similar(or ripped off) and the scenes were not as good then thats diff...these action scenes were straight up NO HOLDING BACK ACTION, its not like they said this was gonna be some amazing deep movie with a inner meaning on the movie trailer...it said it was gona be a actoin ovie, and delivered and more..relaz n just enjoy the movie.

Mate that's the point, but that doesn't ditract from the movies entertainment value as long as you're willing to except that the purpose of the movie is to be violent, bloody and action packed. Just sit back, enjoy the ride and look at it for what it is, a violent bloodthirsty action thriller that tries to pack in as many different references to other action movies thus making it (in my view) bloody excellent.
