I agree that the RC Booster just adds "something." Great pedal. I'm trying to decide which direction I ant to go with my rig and I seem to keep coming back to the G System.
Man does this thing sound AWESOME!!! I just heard a demo of the Kine 6 HD500 and this G-System unit sounds better! Just simply dreamy tones! Beautiful stuff! And your guitar playing is quite nice, too. Do you enjoy the G system or hold it in higher esteem than the Line 6 HD500? Have you compared the two? Realize now, though, that the HD500 is $500, which is about 1/3 the price of G system. I really would like your opinion, man. You seem fairly knowledgeable regarding guitar and tonal variation
I've seen a few HD500 demos, and it sounds really good...my only problem, and I've had the same problem with every single POD, it doesn't sound like a real amp. Even when run into an amp.
I tried to run a POD X3 Live without an amp, and it just didn't cut it, same with the Eleven Rack.
So, I ditched all of my pedals and went back to the G-System/Amp combination. I run straight into the front end of a clean tube amp, most recently, a Vox Night Train, sounds great with the G-System!
@sminchk67 ...Yeah, this thing definitely is killer! The cool thing, too, is that you can run outside pedal units through it! So the variations in tone are limitless, really! What a gorgeous unit!
I agree with you, the G-System/Nova Drive combo is kinda pricey ($1,400 US) compared to the HD 500, but, I think for live use the two aren't really comparable.
great tone ,, so you can plug the other pedal into G-system and contro them by the G-system ? can you pre set those pedal ? like (1) RC boost on gain 5 than (2) RC on gain 10 , and sometrhing like that ?? please don't care of my bad english .. =)
The G-System doesn't control the pedals in the loops, it just brings them in and out of the signal path. The TC Nova Drive pedal is able to be run into the G-System and also be controlled digitally for different drive settings without touching the controls on the pedal.
The G-System has chorus, delay, reverbs, compressor, wah, flangers, phasers, pitch shifting, and more. No overdrives, it allows you to use your own pedals in loops (and even powers the pedals! *except for the Nova Drive which requires more power then the G-System can give.)
I use the Nova Drive for all my overdriven tones, and the combo of the G-System and the Nova Drive is prefect for me!
@foreverjimmy the g system is an extremely high quality multie effects system and more it can switch between your amps, and does tons more stuff that i can't think of right this second, its got every thing you need in it except the overdrive and distortion, you supply that, weather it be threw amp switching (one amp clean one dirty) or pedals ran thew 1 of the 4 loop circuits. IMO the smartest thing you could spend you money one for effects, you just have to sit down and read the instructions.
The G-System has no overdrives built-in, but instead gives you the external loops so you can use any drive pedals you want. For me, that was better than having drives built into the unit, I got to choose what overdrives I wanted, and I ended up with four different levels of gain...very handy for the cover band I was in at the time!
I just got a new G-System Limited and Nova Drive...very cool! I can control everything about the Nova from the G-System, I never have to touch the knobs on the Nova Drive...I can set up 18 different overdrives, and tell the G-System which one to use per patch...a new video is coming that explains it.
Sure, that would be good if you plan on doing some tweaking of the pedals during gigs...I pretty much had all my pedals set where I liked them, then ran them into the loops. Life was easy...I miss it.
No, I sold it a little over a year ago...and really wish I had not!
I joined a band where I didn't need an elaborate pedal board...I tried the Nova System and didn't like it at all, then I tried the Line 6 M9, it was ok for a little while, then I went back to regular pedals...Tonebone Trimode, H2O, modded Blues Driver, run into a Peavey Delta Blues combo, that's all I need for the moment.
I'm thinking seriously about getting a Fractal Axe-FX and an Atomic amp to match.
For this demo I'm running straight into the front of a slightly modded Peavey Classic 30 combo. I ran it that way for about a year, then I used a Peavey Windsor head and ran it using the "4 cable method", two cables in the loop, and one in the front of the amp. That way, the G-System seperates the dynamic effects from the overdrive pedals in it's own internal loops, they get run in the front, and the reverbs, choruses and delays go into the the amps's effects loop.
Thank you for the info. I really don't like running things through the efects loop because it changes the sound of the head drastically. I prefer to run srtaight into the the input, Unless of course you have a sidechain on the amp which i much prefer. I am considering this very seriously. I will be using this with a Krankenstein II Head and want to keep the tone as pure as possible.
I don't know much about the Krankenstein II, specifically, but, if the effects loop is "Serial", it should work out great. "Parallel" loops seem to screw up the tone more often than not.
Funny thing, I know the guy that started Krank amps ( Tony Dowe ), he made me a few amps in the late '90s when I lived in Phoenix...one of them was the first Krank combo amp...I love his work!
@sminchk67 I don't know how a parallel loop could screw up your sound (other than in-correct phase due to ad/da conversion) when its just a direct pass-thru and a small unity gain "mixer". Thats like saying your original sound was already screwed up. With a parallel loop you are only adding a wet sound to a completely dry sound. If you run your effect 100% wet you should not have a problem. Talk to Bob Bradshaw if you want to know how to run your effects.
Sorry ..... but now way BOSS or Line 6 even comes close to the G System or Nova System for that matter. I have both and have had BOSS units, X3 Live & Flextone XL III. Boss and Line 6 suck! I use the G System with a JVM410H and the sounds are simply superb!!! Nothing else like it in that price range!
Ahh yes - Hungry like the Wolf - Always good at weddings, just after you've been asked to announce the buffet is open!! lol
I'm mooching around thinking about replacing my intermittently faulty 2120 with 1 of these and a JMP-1 which I already have. I just wish I could find a clip which shows-off the harmoniser capabilty. - Ho-hum!
Sorry, I sold mine before I could put up a video of the harmonizer capabilities...I liked it, but only used on one song for an actual harmony lead part, but it did work really well, and sounded great!
The black box is an X2 digital wireless guitar receiver, it's the only piece of gear on the whole board that I still use...it's an amazing wireless system, sounds just as good as a cable, and costs less than $400.
i also play in a cover band.. and wanted to to get the gsystem the only thing im concerned about is the u2 sounds.. from what i read there is no modulation delay so u cant get that nice shimmer delay u2 sounds.! or am i wrong??? if it had that delay i would buy it.. im might also try the line6 m13 it sounds really good for effects.. but im using the pod and im used to the 1 switch patch thing. dont want to be tap dancing and the gsystem looks the best for that.!
For MassimoPetrucci! j think gsystem is good ,but probably the axe-fx ultra(or the axe-fx) by fractal audio,or the m13 by line 6 are better for u2 sound!they got both(shimmer and mod delay)
mick3b1g and stilwel, j think they play in a u2 cover band(they're awesome) and both playing using axe-fx ultra and m13!

nova system is good but u can only use one fx at the time .pluss u lose out on the drive dist channel if going into an amps fx loop.nova system cant really do high gain but the overdrive is good .all in all nice compact unit looks awesome as well and is offcoures built like a tank.
I tried the Nova System for about a week, and it was really hard to get used to the switching...doesn't really compare to the G-Sys as far as a live pedal board is concerned, the Nova is more of a studio effect to me.
Hi there. Any chance you can tell me how to get She Sells Sanctuary ?. Sounds great, I have a G System coming and want to push the band to play it. If I have that sound they will have a hard job refusing my request !!.
I have not posted any of my patches, mainly because I don't know how...but, I've stopped using the G-System, and switched to the POD X3 Live...I'm not playing with the 80's new wave band anymore, so I don't really need it anymore.
Here's what you do for the Smiths tune, use the tremelo, on "hard", 6.90hz, 90% depth, 50% width...I also have lots of delay and reverb on that one.
My G's going up for sale this week, if you know anyone interested.
I imagine it would suck the tone from an amp, that's why I'm running direct these days...I go from my X2 wireless into the Korg DT-10 tuner (the POD's tuner kinda sucks), then into the POD, I go out to the Groove Tubes "Brick" tube preamp, then to the mixing board...no more amps on stage...good times!
I don't really know how to post the patches, but I would if I could...I'm selling the G-System, and I should share the patches before it goes, there are over fifty specific songs programmed.
Oh yeh....we want those settings man....the ones you demonstrated were quality. You could save them to your hard drive and then email or post them somewhere that we can get them. I am a bit greedy, but if you don't ask, you don't get......lol.
The G-System has a really good noise gate built-in to the unit.
I only used it on my highest gain songs...not anymore...I'm going to be selling the G-System on eBay in a month or so, just don't need it anymore...great piece of gear though!!!
I bought this before the Nova System came out...the G-Sys was just what I needed for the band I was in at the time, I'm going to be selling it soon...no longer needing it.
Hi, nice sound! I have a question though, I am soon purchasing new effets but I have two options, buying a TC-electronic g system or buying individual boss pedals (which is best tonewise for you)? Does the TC affect your tone? (like sucking up tone)? I know I have to try everything but as I live in Argentina it is really difficult to try all these gear, so I am going on holidays over there to buy everything while I am over there, so what do you advise me? (boss and other pedals: like 10 in chain
10 Boss pedals in a chain would give me nightmares at this point. It is possible to do, if you used a series of true-bypass loopers, then you could cut down on the amount of tone-suckage.
That's what I used to do, every one of my pedals was hooked up to a looper.
I love the sound of the G-System, but, you really do need good sounding pickups!
One more thing, you'll need at least one overdrive pedal, since the G-Sys has no overdrive circuits built-in.
What's up, sminchk67? I was doing a search on the Satchurator and came across your video. Oddly enough, I play in a cover band in Austin and live close to the Merkaba. Used to play there and Cedar Street, and still play Cool River. I like your rig setup, and the patches sound great! What band do you play with?
I love the way the G-System sounds, and I'm running it very modestly into a Peavey Classic 30 combo, but, I believe that good pedals for the loops are a must!
I found a seller on eBay that sells them for $1,275.00...no tax, beats the hell out of Guitar Center!
We play every Thursday at Merkaba (35S & Wells Branch), and every now and again at Cool River and Cedar Street.
Excellent. I used to live off of Howard so I know exactly where that is. If I get some free time sometime soon, I'll come down and see you guys - sounds like a good time.
Nice Bowie patch. Pretty damn close. The Duran Duran could double for some VH-5150.
I almost bought one of those. I thought it sounded like crap, but who knew the problem was between the guitar and the machine... and I ain't talking about the cord.
Sounds damn cool. It also sounds like you've been playing quite a few gigs. You playing anywhere around Austin?
I'm in an 80s band out here in Vegas, great tones, nice intro on Video Killed....

Thanks!

Excellent. I used to live off of Howard so I know exactly where that is. If I get some free time sometime soon, I'll come down and see you guys - sounds like a good time.

Sadly, we lost our usual Thursday night gig at Merkaba to another cover band (one with an actual following)...bummer.
