  • Omg I freaking love this video ! It's so cute ! By the way you have a veryyy cute pack ;)

  • Awwww. I love how handsome puts that one paw over your arm when he jumps up there. Too cute. <3

  • Thanks, i enjoyed watching this and ill try with my dog.

  • i love bochel in the background :D

  • can you send me a message on how you got your cat to jump up. I am in the process of training my two 11 week old kittens. I would love for them to do that soon. p.s. They can jump high enough, I'm positive :)

  • Very cute video. I love the " joyful energy" of your dogs and cats when you are training ! You are having fun and so are they.

  • @djsmithppp Awww, thank you very much. We always have a good time training... cats too!

  • You are sooo cool with your dogs - and cat!! Love it!! :)

  • Nice pack.

  • Please tell me how you got your cats and dogs to get along so well

  • I have a shih tzu and really want to teach her to do this. Will she be too small or will she be able to manage it?

  • I always taught this by bracing myself against a wall and slowly moving from a squatting position to standing, but I love the idea of the pillows, less effort on my part! ;-)

  • Lovely to see how happy they are. Someone i know has a BC who they keep locked up in a shed 24/7.. :(

  • When I get a dog this is exactly what I want him/her to do :D thanks for the vid :)

  • Love your cat lol

  • Hey I have jack Russell / Yorkie and he's really small. Do you have any tips for me? Thanks

  • I love this! I've always wanted to end our agililty runs with my bc jumping into my arms....on my way now to put on a pair of jeans and start training.

  • @tmhodge01 YAY!!!!! Good luck!

  • I used this method with my dog and we succeed about 50% of the time... the problem is that she doesn't really use my leg as a ramp she just jumps up in the air and I have to catch her.. She weighs about 40 pounds which is a lot to just catch from mid-air! I'll try going back a few steps so that she uses my leg to climb up... Anyway thanks for the vid!

  • my dog knows how to do this but wat im looking for is i want my dog to jump on my back and jump off when im on my knees and jump off somthing like leapfrog

  • @AndrewJThomas97 I belong to the Dallas Dog Disc Club and there is a training section on how to teach your dog to vault off of you. Go to the website and look for the Training tab.

  • i have my own meathod for this on my channel, but your meathod is probly better.. unfortunetly i dont have that many pillows... but great video and i love ur dogs! they are adorable! :)

  • @GoneToTheDoggy Use books! Anything that will prop you up slowly. Thanks for the compliment!

  • I think my German Shepherd will just kill me jumping over me

  • My German Shepherd is intelligent it will be easy to teach him this...... at least I think so

  • Awww. Very cute.

  • Ziptie was here and SUBBED you...Check out Zipties Channel and Plz SUB back...Thx! I like the technique. Thanks for Sharing!

  • Will the little dog at the end of video jump up in your arms too? I want to teach my 4.8 lb toy fox terrier to jump in my arms if it is possible????

  • @sugarandspicekidz Yes he does and it was easier... not so heavy! I doubt you'll have any problems teaching your pup. Remember I even taught a cat.

  • That is so cute!!!

  • I'm trying to teach this to my pup, and never thought of using cushions like you did! Thanks. Also, is this in your garden? Because I'm super jealous of your agility course in the background! [:

  • @CharleiighChiing Yes, that's my agility field. I'm very fortunate.

  • @kat22oo I am incredibly jealous, you have so much land! You and your dogs/cats certainly are very lucky. [:

  • Great! :) Awesome technique!

I decided to tried it out on one of my young Boxers who doesnt know it yet. It took only 7-10 minutes before she got it. :) I used 3 pillows before removing the chair. I just leaned down and back.

Thank's for posting this. I have a vid of Bailey learning the trick on my page. :)

  • @Stephanotis08 You're welcome!

  • wow congratulations u have a really good dogss and a cute cat!!! and they are very smart but they are like that because of their master... right!? im planning to get a male rottweiler and a female pitbull

  • @ROLO1993 Thanks! Good dogs = good handler. Happy good dogs = better handler, and that's what I strive for.

  • Nice!! ;)

  • Thanks for the entertaining and informative video. I am working on this to add to our frisbee routine. Just started today, using your method, and it's going great!

  • I know that wasn't your selected original song but ya know what? I really like it and it actually goes with the video nicely.

    :)

  • Thanks!!!

  • Thanks

  • Very nice!

  • Wow, he is the same height as my girl! ^^ I very, very rarely get to see another her size. He is indeed very handsome, too! xP

Thank you for this! I'm going to use it, it's something I've allways wanted to teach my dog.

  • this is so cute! i want to teach my dog how to do this, but i have a concern...

murphy is about 9 months old and we're still trying to break him of the habit of jumping on us when he greets us (do you have any tips for that?!) so do you think teaching him to jump into our arms would confuse him and make him think that jumping on us is ok?

  • I really need help, desperate to teach this to my collie x who is as big as Handsome, but he will only half jump up (e.g. only front legs and body) and I can't get him to put the rest up without picking him up. Alsom any tips on how to get him to pick up on tugging or frisbee? He is bird crazy and I would have thought him to love frisbees for this reason but NOOOOO.... help?

    Thanks loads, Ella and Dermott.

  • It appears you may be going to fast. Take your time and let your pup feel comfortable just being on your entire lap. Then, slowly start raising yourself. Ground up!

With the disc, throw rollers and brush it on the ground some before rolling. Get your pup excited. I believe I have a video on Gorgeous retrieving a disc when about 10 weeks old I think.

  • haha loved that! 5 stars! II really wanna try this out.

  • CONGRATS I just loved your sense of humor GREAT TRAINING....

  • cute video!

  • Great video! I got it from affordableagility newsletter. I have been wanting to teach Kira this but she wouldnt jump in my arms. After watching this video I tried it and it took about 20 min for her to learn it. At the moment she will only jump into my arms when the chair and pillows are behind me. I would keep working on it but we have agility class tonight and I dont want her to be stuffed! lol I am sure we will have it perfect in a few days. THANK YOU!

  • P.S. she is 50 pounds

  • Big Dogs Rule!!!

  • Great video! :) It's good to see that bigger dogs can do it - since mine is 43 and I wanna do it with her! :p

  • Wow! Genuis!

Such lovely training! Thanks for sharing!

And you have lovely dogs and a lovely cat! What breed is Willabee?

  • Thanks for the lovely comments. Bumble and Willabee are brothers. I adopted them when they were kittens from a foster home. Willabee has a "M" on his face, so you could say he is a Mackeral tabby cat.

  • No Problems!

Ohh, I see. I'd love to own Turkish Angoras some day!

You have lovely dogs and cats~

  • Thanks for this cool video! I will try it out and keep you updated :-)

(by the way: "Mr.Bochel warming up the pillows": EXCELLENT!! LOL)

  • lol aww poor cat was like yeeeey!!!... aww .. nice trick and great way how to teach it! *thumbs up*

  • Thx for this video i have a Belgian Malinois, in 10 min he learnd to jump on my lap on command :D the's loving this trick!

  • Fantastic! Big dogs rule!

  • Thank you so much for the technique

  • You're welcome! I'm glad it worked out for y'all. Yes, Bocelli is a character. He learned how to jump into my arms with this method too.

  • thank you for this video! I teached my dog to do this using your method :)

btw. the best part of your video? The dog warming up the pillows. He is sooooo hilarious rolling around :)

  • Fantastic video!!! :)))

  • I had to do some prep work getting the dog into my lap on the floor, but once I got to the chair stage...10 mins and she was jumping into my arms standing!! That was such a great technique!! My pup is only 5 months old and she does it like a pro!...the funniest part was the first time I stepped away from the chair and I told her to jump up....she jumped on the pile of pillows on the chair..thanxs god I was only a step away it almost toppled over!! so cute ..YOUR DOGS RULE!! THNX!!

  • That is fantastic!

  • thanks, of all the tricks she knows now...thats the one that really impressed our fellow dog walkers yesterday!...now if I could only get her to STOP jumping on strangers she wants to pet her...ahhhh, puppies, she'll come around!

  • Glad the video was able to help!

  • Great way to break it down. I'm going to try this with my Cattle-Jack. I think your method will be perfect!

  • love this video

  • awesome, really well caught the process of getting this done. Loved the cats participation :D

  • Wow!! Great video how to teach jump into you.

It looks very safe way to teach this move. I always wanted to do this with my dog, Axel but he is a Labrador and almost 60 pound so I was worry about how it gives impact to me and to him. But I would like to try with your way. Tank you for sharing the wonderful training information.

  • Great way to show us.. step by step process. I love it. Plus the hugging is a reward in itself! Looks like a lot of fun. We'll try it out. Thanks.

  • The hugging is the best part... thank you!

  • This is great to show everyone how to shape a behavior such as this! If you break any behavior to train into step by step it is really easy!

I too have a 30 pounder and she learned in one jump! It's her favorite position. Before i had it under stimulus control, she tried it once with a senior man (her favorite kind of person) she sort of knew but because he didn't know she was going to do/wasn't ready, she fell and she has never tried it with strangers again (Thank Goodness!).

  • would this work with a boxer dog

  • Your only limitation is that of the handler.

  • Thanks for the video! It helped a lot to know how to get started. However, I tried it with my Pomeranian and he was fine until I started getting to almost standing up then he wouldn't jump any more. Any help? Thanks again!

  • Go back to the beginning or to a point where he knows the desired behavior. Stay with that for awhile before you ask for more. Also, bend one of your legs so it looks like a step.

  • Alright. I'll try that. Thanks for the help!

  • thx for sharing it! I'll try it on tomorrow..I'll tell you if it works or not..your cat bumble is so cute! I cant belive that cats can do it too:D and your 2 amazing BCs love them<3! and ur sunbathing dog just like mine:D

  • great

  • Thank you so much! This is how i taught Keelie to jump into my arms!

  • loved the video. Brought tears to my eyes. Shows the rest of the world why we love our Borders so much! Nothing challenges their spirit.

  • Thank you! Handsome didn't really want to jump in my arms... he prefers four on the floor. He lives to please me and did it anyways. How I love that dog.

  • I tried the technique with my little 30lb. Reva, a natural athlete. My Woodrow really wanted to give it a try....but he's 59lbs.! Borders are like horses. The cheapest part is buying them. Then ya gotta build agility courses, buy posts and fence for the livestock you need for the dogs. THEN, if you have 4 of them like we do, you have to upgrade to a kingsize bed!Your love for that dog shows in the video.

  • Ha! I have a California King bed! I started off with Handsome and living in an apartment. I bought a home on two acres a year later, and then his half sister several months after that. I may breed Gorgie in the next two years and will keep a pup from that litter. I am so broke!

    So, I can relate.

  • do u start with basic training first? and how did you learn to train dogs so well?

  • If you're dog will jump on your lap while sitting on the chair... I guess that would be basic. If not, just start by stitting on the floor and work your way up to a chair.

Thanks for the compliment, but their Border Collies... easy to train; they make me look good. ;)

  • This is a really great and very helpful training video. Thank you so much for sharing!!

  • You're welcome... it was fun to make too! The cats added some entertainment.

  • cool trick

  • This is excellent. I attempted to use this technique after seeing this, but my border collie did the same thing: put his paws on my lap, then was sorta freaked out when I lifted him up. He's not used to having to be picked up, lol. So now he's just confused and won't even put his paws on my lap :[

  • Are you using his most valued reward? Handsome was very uneasy getting on my lap, so I just lifed him on there. Stayed for a bit and threw the disc for him as the reward. He'll do anything for a thrown disc.

Get your BC use to just being on your lap and eventually holding him... just don't rush it. BC's can do it... they are too smart not too!

  • I forgot to add this to my last comment. Start him out by lifting him on your lap while sitting on the floor and then work your way up... then add patience.

  • Great advice :] He was definitely never a lapdog, he won't even step on me if I'm sitting on the ground with him. Maybe he's just a very respectful pup, lol. It doesn't hlep that I never trained him to do this stuff when he was really little :[ He's 3, I feel like I'm starting on all this stuff way too late!

  • ahhhh no! I taught Handsome when he was a few months shy of 3 years of age. He's not much of a lap dog either... too big. Will your pup at least put his front paws on you chest while you are standing? If not, start getting him use to that, but only on command. He might just not think it's okay, so he is refusing to do that at all.

  • i loved it very good with animal keep up the good work

  • Thank you so much for the clip ! My dog learn to jump in my arm in 1 hour ! Tank you angain ! I also need help to do disc dog trick , Can you help me ? Sorry for my english !

  • ...have you tried the chinese crested?

  • I just did yesterday... thanks for the challenge. I was sitting on the Agility Table and started calling him to jump in my lap, and eventually started to stand up.

  • well done, My Cresties Harry can tooooo, but havent got a video to prove it!

  • fantastic job!

your 'crew' is adorable! I have a hard time handling my 32 lb border collie half the time, so im amazed that others can handle 55 lbs! =]

  • So was I!!! Are you going to give it a try anyways?

  • i already did! She can jump into my arms, for the most part.

  • Thank you for putting this video up, I have taught my dog this trick using your instructions.

  • That's fantastic... I'm glad I could help.

  • 55 pounds is a lot of dog coming at ya haha

that is awesome with the cat too!

  • thank you!!! after seeing this video, I used this methode to teach my dogs to jump into my arms. so far I have 1 of the BC and the toller doing it, I have even tried to pregress the other BC and the JRT yet, not because they arent ready though, just because 2 40lbs dogs hurling themselvs into my arms is enugh for the moment!

  • Outstanding! I'm glad it worked for you!

  • what que word did you use????

  • "up!" with my arms out. My arms have to be out before I accept the jump. Exception... Bumble the cat. He jumps up when I'm not ready or even looking. Freaks me out every time... I have the scratch marks to prove it.

  • HAHA! nice

  • Awesome very nice video I can not wait to give this a try. Lets see if I can get a 50lb poodle to do this.

  • Nice video!! Thanks for sharing your method, I want to try this exercice with my border collie. I loved your cat, too. Greets from Chile.

  • Thanks so much for sharing. I'm defintly going to try this.

    SueB

  • THX for sharing...great idea!

    Uwe

    Thanks for sharing!

    Greets from germany

Olli, Pongo and the little Dukiiiiiiiiii

  • nice video of this behavior! It's nice to see more cats co-starring in disc videos!

  • Nice video!

    Cheers,

    Ron

  • Awesome job!! I love how the cats do it too!

  • Me encanta tu forma de trabajar los perros, y tus videos son muy buenos,

(I love your way of working dogs, and your videos are very good, since spain) Note : my English is very bad

  • Hmm, that's a LOT easier than how I taught Aspen (sliding myself up a wall, it was KILLER on my thighs!) - I'll work on this with Cheets and Derbs! Great video! (That's a LOT of dog you got there! *grin*)

  • I wil deffinatly try this method I makes a lot of sense. My puppy is only 7 1/2 months old could I train him now or should I wait 'til he's older? Your cats are gorgeous I love Bumble jumping into your arms:) Great job!

  • I trained Gorgeous at six months old. I never did Handsome, because I thought he was too big. So yes!

  • ok Thanks!

  • That worked great! I've been trying and trying to get my girlie to jump in my arms, but haven't gotten anything to work until now (yes, at 1 in the morning..haha) Thanks!

  • Fantastic video. Great training. I will have to try it. Thanks for the good ideas.

    Mary-Catherine

  • omg, I love this method, I cant get my dog to jump in my arms for any reason, but she will jump in my lap, I think I will try this!

    Dian

  • Now, how many claw marks do you have on your leg? =P I like your method for big dogs. With my sheltie, I started on my knees and taught him to jump up and put his paws on my chest, then moved upward. I'd like to forward your video to a friend with a big dog. As for weight, have you ever seen Rusty w/Maxwell the Terv? Now that's one I'm surprised doesn't just knock him over! =D

  • Your absolutely amazing with animals!

  • Cool video; liked the pillows being added; i did similar but just in office chair and no pillows. Also didn't realize you had a crested too. cresteds are cool. carolm and dogs
