In all likelihood, the originally envisioned outcome of RE 5 was for the "victorious villain" sort of ending, but Capcom folded and allowed Takeuchi to instead deliver the Western-friendly " good guy wins" ending. To that end, MULTIPLE flaws were suddenly imposed upon Wesker. The fact that he couldn't simply dash at will and snap a foe's neck (as he could have done in CV), his asinine need to justify his actions (when did he ever need to do that?) and the serum (MAJOR "?!").

@CTrace You missed my highly valid point, which was that the new director in the franchise took a total departure from what Mikami would have done with 5, and hence Wesker became some cheap rip-off of a Bond villain, making speeches when he should have just killed Chris as well as being overly reckless. Takeuchi is an idiot, and the series (if it continues) will suffer for it.

The game is not made by the original creator, you wouldn't want to see some Star Wars movie that wasn't writen or looked at by George luckus would you? No, "RE"5 is a Capcom creation unlike the originals. In "RE"5 that is not Weskers personality, its something else made by other people. after RE4 everything is just spin offs.

@NassaDane Well I think a character should always be evolving throughout a series. The fact that Wesker finds out so much about his past and what he could become makes it obvious why he acts different in RE5. I think the game as a whole was slightly dissapointing, I wished they had went back to their roots with the old zombies etc.

Mikiami created RE and now Capcom is going in what ever direction they see fit, not the orignial creator. None of the Wesker past is acceptable cause Mikiami didn't make it. And personally it was very dumb. That past was like finding out Han Solo was a magician the whole time in Star wars.

@NassaDane They were faithful to many aspects of Wesker before RE5. To be honest he's almost exactly as he was in Code Veronica. Also, there isn't enough knowledge about him after his death/rebirth to say whether the new guys were faithful or not. So this whole thing is rendered void. Wesker is Wesker, the ass-kicking evil bastard!

They're the creators, they evolve his character any way they want. Thats like saying Master Chief was cool in the first Halo but the 2nd and 3rd they messed him up.
