Hi! awesome work - you know somebody just sold a ton of these on groupon? They aren't nearly as high quality as yours though - just something to consider!
We have just made our own auction vinyl record website, if you like vinyl please check us out. You can also use our very own bulklister to easily transfer csv files and even import from turbolister, even have a buy it now for 60 days option at no extra cost, cheapest rates on the net, just go to blog and click on the link.
These look really good! I'm trying to do my own but they're coming out horrible. How do you manage to spray so many coats? I'm struggling to get 2 coats without the second coat cracking and creasing? I'm using good quality paint (mtn), and leaving to dry for 24h before applying the next layer. I'm not sanding the records or anything, just once over with a clean cloth and the first coat comes out fine, so I don't understand why the second won't stick too.
Also, for detailed stencils with thin lines and tricky edges, how do you secure the stencil down to the record so that it doesn't blur? I've tried with card and paper. Yes I suck. Thanks!
It's all in the practice. I am using copy paper for these, anything thicker and i don't get the detail i want. Hold the edges down with other cans and use a minimal amount of paint. I don't use name brand paints just what ever color i like, so i get some cracks too. It might also have to do with your climate, i'm in the desert and only have to wait 5 minutes between coats. Bottom line in your case is use light amounts of paint sprayed at least 6 inches away from the surface. Cheers.
I was doing them in a garden shed during english winter, so it could be to do with the temperature. I've tried to do quite a few, letting them dry for different lengths of time, the second coat just don't work. Oh well, maybe I'll give it a go in the summer. Thanks for answering!
Im from portugal, and i do exacley the same stuff.. i also paint on vinyal! it rocks!! send me your mail, and il send u some pics of mine too.. cheers bro..
I just print out several copies, enough for each layer and then cut the different values. Black is one, white is one, and then there is no limit to the extra layers. Go to town!
how did u get the stencils to come out so well, because when ever i edit them in photoshop they look rubbish... please help man! or anybody help meeee!
Photoshop is a good place to start, once you have mastered the threshold procedure i suggest moving to just a brightness and contrast boost and then cut the stencil from eye. I cut my stencils from black and white photos. You will be suprised how much better your eye does than the computer at finding the separate layer tones. Good luck.
oh right, how do you convert the picture from full colour into black and white on photoshop??
It's just like if I decide to do a picture of two people, 1 might come out alright, but the others face is completely black, so finding a picture that works properly for me is sum challenge! lol cheers mate.

Awesome Where do you get your stencils?
lennya75 2 years ago
Ha. I cut all of my own stencils, are there places to get stencils. Maybe i should sell mine.
masefetz 2 years ago
LOL Yeah you should. I'm sure someone would buy them. The reason I ask is cause I do vinyl signs/stickers and want to get into stencils.

do the records still work?

use re positionable spray adhesive, it gives you crisp lines
SockPupp 2 years ago
but you gotta watch that stuff cause it will ruin underlying layers of paint if they haven't cured.

How do you separate the layers for making the stencils? I can only make one color ones; they look cool but I'm ready to move past that, haha!

By eye.

oh and one more question,
how do you cut out your stencils after they are made (with an x-acto knife?)? and what are the stencils on? acetate (aka transparency paper) paper?
precioussweetie4u 3 years ago
hey,
Do you do commissioned work?
Do you have an etsy shop (or something similar) where people can buy custom painted vinyls?
I think you did a great job painting all those. The stencils and style look awesome.
Reply to this comment or email me at precious_sweetie_4u [at] yahoo [dot] com if you are willing to do some custom stuff for me.
