In most countries, if she were digging on her own, the museums would still have first dibs, but they would have to buy them from her. Pre 1970, she could sell them to the highest bidder. This find was remarkable. It appears that the coins were hidden to keep the Persians from finding them. The owners of the coins likely died when the city was sacked when the Persian army took Jerusalem.

Many gold treasures were found in Jordan but were confiscated by the Royal family.
