Ravel is often revered for his orchestration, but I think his true talent was chamber writing. His solo piano works, Introduction et Allegro, his string quartet, this piece, they're so brilliantly written.
@stomentendo Since writing for orchestra is a medium in itself, "arrangement" should be applied to groups less than 1/4 the size of an orchestra. Besides, what I was saying was that Ravel was a master of instrumentation rather than orchestration.
