  • This one is much better than the current cvrrsi

  • Simply the best, what a sad day when the world lost that beautiful voice due to some botched surgery. So happy we still have Ms. Andrews incredible acting talent,,,,,,,HMMMMMMMMMM & What is Brandy up to these day,,,,UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • the best cinderella :)))))

  • She is most certainly NOT supposed to be happy; she's supposed to be devastated, and heroically struggling to act cheerful. We're supposed to see the poignancy of that, otherwise, we'd be content to turn off the telly and leave her happily in her little corner. :-)

  • I agree she's a little too happy, but her voice is so beautiful that it more than makes up for that.

  • She is so beautiful! (: Her voice is so unique and gorgeous! I love her! (:

  • How can there be 11 dislikes on this video? I am perplexed. Julie Andrews is amazing!!!!!

  • @nsimpson76 The ones who disliked this liked the Brandy version better lol

  • Aww/: i wish i could randomly break out into song with out people staring at me thinking im stupid/:

  • @kaeannah22 Me too. Lol. Although sometimes I do randomly sing and dance around for no apparent reason.

  • 11 people don't have their own little corner

  • The great Julie Andrews. Unique voice, beautiful face, adorable woman.

  • Cant stop singing this song since I watched this the other day, love it! x

  • 11 dislikes are definitely no ladies and gentleman that they don't enjoy classics like Julie's performings. I can imagine what they like, but I won't mention them anymore 'cause mentioning their names would dirty my lips!

  • No fair! Whenever I sing this song I have huge inferiority issues. With anyone else, I wouldn't care, but Julie Andrews sets the bar to about two miles into the sky. If I could sing half this well, I'm sure I'd win awards/

  • "Im a Slave in Calcutta"

No wonder they changed that line when Brandy re-did this song. o:

  • julie andrews is so beautiful! i love her!

  • I SWEAR I NEVER KNEW THIS EXISTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!What is wrong with me lol

  • Hmm, I love Julie Andrews, but I must say though her voice is superior, I like the modern version of this song more. I feel like the staging of the number was more real in the modern one. It makes me think of my little corner and the way I imagine. This version is beautiful, but I don't feel it as much. Still love Andrews to death, though!

  • @ultimateyaoifangirl - I quite agree. I adore Julie Andrews, and always will, but she's just a little too happy to be in that grimey, sad little corner. When Leslie Ann Warren sang it with such earnestness and poignancy, my heart simply broke. Though her voice doesn't hold a candle to Julie's, her interpretation is beyond approach and so believable that even as a small child I would cry whenever I saw it.

  • @moonharp well cinderella is supposed to be happy her nasty little corner and awful chair makes her happy. because she can do whatever she wants in that corner (as explained in the song :D)

  • Lea Salonga did this..BUT though i am a filipino. I LIKE JULIE ANDREWS VERSION.Julie is amazing. And ohh, growing old so gracefully and well dignified!

  • Amazing voice, beautiful face, practically perfect in every way! ♥

  • This is a GREAT version of this. I first heard it in the newer version, but being a Julie stan since the Mary Poppins DVD first came out back in 01 or something, I love her version, too. I had Brandy and Whitney's on tape when I was younger, but my oldest neice accidentally popped it. So now I have to find both versionson film again

  • i luv this its first time hearing it but still like the brandi version

  • Just got the DVD of this today :) No one can touch Julie, she is the best :)

  • @strawberrycrazy1 you found this version on DVD? Where? I LOVE Julie Andrews and try to collect her work.

  • @aaliyonce Its on amazon dot com =) I think its around 15.00$ and they ship it super fast! =)

  • THIS WOMAN CAN DO ANYTHING!

  • i have to sing this in a prizegiving!!!! AHHH!!! but shes really good at that song. I love you julie!!!!

  • took me a few seconds to realise this was julie andrews

  • @satanknight14 NO WAY. Nothing compares to Julie's version.

  • Did not know she did this song! All I've ever seen is the brandy version. Interesting...

  • @laurarox01 yeah same here.

  • I love Julie Andrews and her beautiful voice. I learned to love Leslie Anne Warren in this role as a child, however. There's just something more moving about Ms. Warren's performance, something with less technical precision, a bit more believable and lovable. Leslie seems to lack affectation. No one can beat Ms. Andrews in Mary Poppins or especially in the Sound of Music. She's got that stiff British manner that serves that part well along with her amazing voice and beauty.

  • Our director want to do Cinderella for musical next year. I do too now. the girls who's been the lead female for a few years is graduating this year, I have one less octave then Julie Andrews, and thus am a soprano. I got the second largest female part this year, Carlotta in Phantom, and if we do this I'm feeling good about the lead :D

  • Julie is an angel. She brought me a lot of happiness when I was a child. My own parents were so vicious and cruel toward me. Julie was a good role model to me--she showed that adults can be good and kind. Thank you always Julie. Love you always. Lance

  • in MY own little corner, i can be Julie Andrews. what a wonderful actor/performer/person.

    <3

  • what makes me very sad is that Julie Andrews cant sin glike this anymore. She has had an amazing voice the past YEARS but now her voice is different and something happend to her that I realy cant explain. I love her very much, And i miss that voice very much too!

  • @sydneyandsami9500 What happened is that she got nodes on her vocal chords and have to have an operation to get removed. No singer's voice is ever the same afterwards, no matter how talented.

  • @captainteaboy On Oprah she stated it wasn't nodes but paralysis of the vocal fold and they want into fix it but it want hay wire :/

  • OMG!!! She's so young here. I never have seen her younger than Mary Poppins. This is GREAT!! She's so much better singing these songs than the other actresses in the other versions. Thanks for posting this. Julie Andrews is amazing in everything she does. :D

  • No one can compare to Julie Andrews...a voice of an angel :)

  • right on alder36 :)

  • This is beautiful. Why did they have to remake it and ruin the music with those actors

  • julie sings better than leslie ann warren...but i dont buy her as a poor little abused girl...she looks too regal here

  • Mary Poppins! :D

  • this melted my heart!! ahhh!! i miss her voice....this was great! thank you so much for posting this!!

  • SHE'S AMAZING :)

  • I am using this song for an audition in a few months! Julie Andrews is my inspiration! What a beautiful, talented woman. I wish I was related to her!

  • Thanks for posting this video....This is awesome! MIss Julie Andrews is the best!!!

  • Not only is Julie Andrews beautiful, she has the regal air to everything she portrays. Lesley Ann Warren, her voice was just not my cup of tea. Julie Andrew. She's an icon. Brilliant.

  • i don't understand how you could be so ignorant as to even think of comparing brandy to julie andrews. uhm excuse me but it's julie FREAKING andrews. one of the most graceful, beautiful, and talented women to ever grace this earth. you cannot compare brandy her just like in no way could you compare britney spears to judy garland. if you're trying to reason that brandy is a better cinderella then you know nothing of musical talent.

  • @fantasticem0889 I agree. But Brandy is good just the same. Julie is kind of like bringing a rocket to a Rock-Paper-Scissors game. The rocket trumps all. As does Julie

  • @fantasticem0889 I agree very well put over. I dont think Brandy would have got very far in doing the role had Rodgers & Hammerstein themselves been still alive to see it , no offence to Brandy, but she is no Julie Andrews, Lesley Ann Warren, or Mary Martin for that matter. Yana who was in the original London Production in 1958, come across, at least on the recording of the cast album much stronger vocally than Brandy.

  • OMG! She is so cute! She's cuter then in The Sound of Music, and that's a merical!!

  • Rodgers and Hammerstein made this musical for Julie. That's how great she is! I think her version is the best because it was made specifically for her. She's the original and know one can beat that!

  • @pascualangel R&H preferred Lesley Ann Warren's version, both wrote of it in their letters.

  • @BernardProfitendieu Of course they preferred Leslie Ann Warren's version more because it was more polished than JA's version. Time and the advancement of technology made LAW's version a lot better. And besides, if you're going to do a re-make of a classic, the re-make has to be an improvement of the older version, or else it'll just be an exercise in futility. LAW's version had the advantage of color better special effects and I think it wasn't live. Sorry for the wrong grammar on my post (*no)

  • @BernardProfitendieu Sorry Rodgers and Hammerstein did not! at all it was impossible sorry for the pun, as Hammerstein had died in 1960, so never saw Lesley Ann Warren as Cinderella, it was Julie Andrews who they loved in that part as they wrote it especially for her, I have photographs of Julie with Rodgers and Hammerstein taken during rehearsals for that 1957 production. Rodgers did produce the 1964 colour remake which was done to preserve a version in colour. Where did you get your info?

  • @steph42uk Richard Rodgers' widow was my neighbor for many years

  • @BernardProfitendieu Very interesting thanks for the info. However Dorothy Rodgers knew Oscar Hammerstein personally so of course knew that he died in 1960, so would know more than perhaps anyone that he never saw Lesley Ann Warren in Cinderella. There is published letters between Rodgers & Hammerstein when they were writing the original version for J A in 1957 as Oscar was at the 1956 Olympic Games during some of the time they were writing it.

  • @steph42uk don't know about that ... just know that "Dot" told me neither of them could stand Julie Andrews in general, and thought she stank as Cinderella. I'm not as personally wound up in it as you seem to be - just reporting what the little lady told me over coffee one morning in the early '90s.

  • @BernardProfitendieu This very interesting info for me as I dont think this has ever been documented anywhere that I am aware of. But I think with age she had got some of the facts wrong. Richard Rodgers her husband may well have preferred LAW in the 1964 remake of Cinderella. But all I am saying is his long dead by 1964, partner Oscar Hammerstein couldn't possibly have an opinion good or bad about LAW performance in it. And yes I am a fan of both JA and LAW

  • @pascualangel so right thanks what I think

  • My Friend Is Singing This As A Solo In Seneca On April 10th At The Grade School!

  • Brandy did a better job. Julie just ranb through it. Without any feeling. Brandy was twice as gracefull prancing aroung the room making gestures and facial expression.

  • I believe Julie was a singing angel in kingdom of god and then sent by gods to give us great joy throughout her life!

  • Don't compare Brandy to Julie. Julie Andrews is one of the greatest actresses and singers of all time. And this was filmed on live TV no voice-overs, and she still sounds GREAT!

  • Julie Andrews is the best actress. She does everything so gracefully.

  • this was a live broadcast too.. not a film with retakes and voice overs.. jule rocks

  • @DavidoffGustav you are so right she is so pretty too

  • between this, mary poppins, maria in sound of music and queen something in princess diaries, i love her work. Julies awesome!

  • also Millie in Thouroughly Modern Millie, I love her in that!

  • Queen Clarisse, but I believe her best movie was Thoroughly Modern Millie done right around the same time as this movie and was hilarious

  • @Jozzie1987 'Cinderella' was televised about 10 years before 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' was made

  • to tell u the truth i dont talk like dat all the time i was just really pissed of about what she said. if you want to argue about summink .. have some good points dont just throw ur view out there blindly. i dont have a nasty inside thank you very much.. dont get it twisted.

  • let's not compare history to a pop star. julie has an instrument and acting that cannot be mattched..

  • oh Julie Andrews, you marvelous creature

  • how old is she now she looks 50 but i thnk she like 70 or sum

  • woohoo!! she said Peru!!:):) woo hoo!!!

  • reminds me of caroline dhavernas

  • No....they don't make em like this anymore

  • I love Julie Andrews! She is my fav actress and her voice is beautiful!

  • I adore Julie's version, shes truly a legend! brandys is good, but nothing can beat JA singing a classic like this.

  • what people do need to realize about the productions on black and white is that in effect everyone looked older then they would now makeup artists use blush and paling spots and color in face to give the look of wide eyed innocence that cant be done in black and white.

  • Fabulous, I adore Julie Andrews, this musical, and this is one of my favourite songs.

I also love her voice xD and she looked so beautiful here! XD

  • Not a fair comparison. This movie was made in 1957 and it was made for television. They lacked the technology that we have today. To say she "fuckin sucks" is vulgar and uncalled for. I understand that you like your generation, I do as well but I also see the value in older movies. I should hope that you would appreciate the ambiance as well. Keep in mind that older movies are the foundation for many actors. Even Brandy probably watched this rendition for pointers. just a thought to keep in mind

  • i beg to fucking differ. It was a decent remake though pc ruined it you wont have a white king a black queen have an asian kid jsut science. You wont have a stepsister OLDER then the stepmother and quite honestly that killed alot of the ambiance of the remake

  • Julie Andrews had one of the most beautiful voices, it's a shame she lost it (though honestly, at least she lost it relatively recently/later in her career (even though her career isn't over or anything, just that she wouldn't be singing as much at this age anyway), after Victor/Victoria.

  • She's so adorable in this clip! I've always loved this song, especially her rendition.

  • Thank you for sharing this video! I love this song, for the tune and for its very relevant message about the importance of having a space of one's own and time to oneself! I wish the 'Cinderella' CD were available in Australia!

  • I actually agree with some of the negative comments. She looks, and sounds a tiny bit mature for the role. Ironically, lea salonga, at OLDER then this, sounds younger..:S

go ahead, mark me down, its called constructive criticism, and it doesnt mean julie andrew is a bad singer, she is one of the MOST AMAZING singers of all time in my opinion.

  • I agree with looking/sounding mature, even though this part was written for her it's better if Cinderella sounds younger. But honestly, Julie Andrews sounded mature when she was like, 12 so she can't help it, haha

  • I'm not neccesarily sure it's a case of looking and sounding more mature. The fact is that Julie has aged fantastically over the years and even now doesn't look nearly as old as she is. Julie virtually did not age through her twenties and thirties, and her voice was already miraculously developed by the time she did this role.

In any case, this is all irrelevent when paired with the acknowledgement of Julie's supreme talent and reknown. Brava.

  • same difference really. She looks and sounds eternally late 20s-30s, and late 20s is slightly older then cinderella is usually imagined

it isnt exactly irrelevant, but i think we can all agree that we still love her regardless...

  • Julie Andrews has a realy nice voice

  • This was made for television from the broadway musical- The TV cameras of that era were huge monsters that restricted using the staging that would normally follow. Julie moved quite a bit on the stage during this number, but couldn´t here because of tech problems, so don´t even try to compare this to Brandy,

    two totally different worlds.

  • Compared to the most recent one, I like her singing better but I like Brandy's dancing -like how she jumps around and act everything out -and acting better. At least for this song

  • This is live for TV, brandy's version was recorded in a studio with endless processing to make her mediocre voice sound passable and is lip-synced movie

  • I used to go off and pout in a corner when I got mad at my 3 older siblings and they would make fun of me and sing this song to me. I remember being so mad when they would but after hearing Julie sing it, I love the song!

  • she has a great voice but she's rushing the song

  • thank you!!!!! love it

  • beautiful....always was and always will be. i will love her forever. She made me love to sing!!!

  • Copyright infringement happens regardless of intent or profit. You do seem rather conscious of the situation.

  • man, I freaking love Julie Andrew voice. So beautiful.

  • what year is this?

    50's

  • 1957

  • She's so amazing!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • is there really a point for telling that to the world?

  • i was just saying u dont have to be freaking rude about it

  • Julie Andrews is amazing. She is and always will be one of my favorite actresses. I espeically love The Sound of Music. That movie always cheers me up whenever I watch it!

  • me two...her voice is sooo good! itz wonderful. the sound of music also cheers me up! she is one of the best singers in the world to my mind! and actress! she will always be my favorite. she is my idol!

  • Soooooooo wonderful and heart warming.

  • what i both love and hate about julie andrews is that she has perfect technique. her singing is perfect and thus charming but it also means whole genres of songs could never be sung by her. On the good side the things she sounds good in she is perfect.

  • I think you have to love her so much that she can sing anything. I do. But there are some song that many think others do better. But, she is perfect.

  • im singing this in voice lessons 2!! how weird!

  • I am singing this in voice lessons too how convieniant

  • when was this done? how old was she?

  • If this is from the TV Production she was 22, but I'm not sure whether it is.

    Nice Video :)

  • this was done in 1957, meaning she was, indeed, 22 years old.

  • I love her so much! I'm singing this song in voice lessons... I don't know why I'm even trying if i have to live up to this. =)

  • I'd love to watch the DVD with julie as cinderella, but it's difficult to get it in germany. they don't have it on amazon here (or in any shop or so) , and if i order it from other countries it will be difficult with the money because of different currencies and so on...

but i have to watch it, these videos here are amazing! i love julies voice :)

  • Her voice was so beautiful, didn't she have throat cancer or something.

  • She developed vocal nodes and had surgery to have them removed. The surgery was botched, however (I can't remember when it was, but I know it was probably 15 years ago or less), so she can't sing anymore hardly at all. She sang very briefly in "Princess Diaries 2", but the part almost sounds like a contralto range, instead of her typical AMAZING soprano. I think that may be what you're thinking of.

  • I just adore Julie's rendition of this charming song! The words are very relevant to someone who likes to escape to the world of the imagination, where solitude is simply obligatory.

  • was she the orig cinderella? i love julie!

  • Julie Andrews is so beautiful here! Even now she is quite charming for someone who's starting to get up there in age. I love her so much~

  • Julie does sing better, but back then, they didnt hav color screens! remember that!

  • Never Knew There Was An Original Version Of The Other Cinderella Movie Starring Brandy Whoa..

  • omg julie andrews is soooo beautiful!!!

  • i like this version and brandy's own but i like when brandy sings and julie andrews acting :] if only if theres a person that can do both

  • so was so young, she looks 17

    she does look innocent

  • I have always hated this song, until I heard it sung by JA

  • "I'm a slave in Calcutta, I'm a queen in Peru! I'm a mermaid dancing upon the sea. I'm a huntress on an African safari...it's a dangerous type of sport and yet it's fun!"

Best lyrics ever. ;D She's so young here. :)

  • luv the classics and LUV the Rodgers and Hammerstein version both versions (Brandi and Julie)

  • i love the fact that this show was written for television. and i think, tho it's never been said, for julie. the year or so before rogers and hammerstien asked her to do the show, she auditioned for pipe dream and my fair lady. and rodgers told her to take the role of eliza, and then the two musical genisues asked her to this show live.

  • *sigh* times have changed...

  • Julie was SO PRETTY & INNOCENT, not like the girls in their 20's nowadays. She was such a jewel at the tender young age of 19.

  • She was 22 in Cinderella but I agree with you. She was wonderful and a true treasure!

  • She was already doing theatre when she did this.

  • i love julie andrews and i'm freaking out because i got the song i have confidence from the sound of music for my school musical and man am i scared to screw up something as good as something she is known for...find the irony in how i got the song and that sings bout exactly what i lack...confidence?

  • i love this old musical, such nostalgia, i wish all musicals were like this

  • I LOVE JULIE ANDREWS!!!!!! This is sooooooo much better than the newest version of R&H Cinderella Urg that girl sings it like she is Hannah Montana or something...

  • you mean brandy version cause brandy is better than hannah montana :]

  • uh...shes from Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, England, UK

    but in movies shes from...ALOT!

    princess diaries

    sound of music

    MARY POPPINS

    etc etc

  • she seems so different in this movie, I guess because she was so much younger and new to the business, but she was so much more jittery then, she became much more reserved. Its so cute! I love her so much! she is my idol! she is so pretty too! and i love her voice!

    hahahh

    =]]

  • my favorite is Leslie Ann Warren's version of this but this is the first time i've seen the original, its different than the one i grew up with but its absolutely amazing =) thanks for putting this up on youtube

  • where is this from!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1957 R&H TV movie, Cinderella. : )

  • I just watched the UGLY..lol step-sisters sing and one of the probs i have with the JA ones are that they stay in one spot..they dnt move!! but those step-sisters....lol
