Credit Unions were orginally designed for small groups of ppl - such as ppl at 1 company, or in a plumbers union, etc
Then CUs started letting other family memers join & then broadened out to accept any1 in the county, etc
The Banks took them to court claiming it was unfair b/c the CUs sometimes have office space furnished by a company & are non-profits so they can charge less fees & less interest
THE US SC agreed but then the sneaky CUs slipped a law thru Congress that cancelled the SC order
10,000 households? Didnt know there where that many but then again you gotta count celebs, business owners and people who inherited their wealth. So now when I think about it that number sounds about right.
Hopefully I can be that wealthy some day, it sucks being broke and easting ramen noodles everyday
WHY DONT THEY MAKE A BANK CALLED THE 99% , WHICH WILL FUND A POLITICAL PARTY IN EVERY COUNTRY AROUND THE WORLD , AND ALSO FUND BUSINESS THAT IS GOOD CAPITALISM , I THINK THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO TURN THINGS AROUND
I think they're going after the super rich because they've squeezed all the revenue they could out of the average working class ppl. Also by saying this Bank is for rich ppl with 50million or more appeals to the ego of the elite. They will want to feel part of an upper exclusive club and prove how much more they're worth then other elites. That's how Madoff got them. The big banks and the wealthy are about to cannibalize each other since they've already eaten every1 else's "pie"
Come on Turk you know that All things in GOV happen in arrears, Which mean that the 83 billion under Obama was already poised to be made because of the actions Bush took during his time. Bush Deregulated the Financial structure and due to the uncertainty of the new president. BANKS, insurance co's, etc, decided it was time to start grabbing as much as "physical" money as possible from the consumer to place bets on "phony money" (credit) investments. But the results have been catastrophic
I've always been with a credit union (BECU), and they don't charge you their own fee (the atm may charge you a fee, but BECU doesn't), they have great online banking, they've always been more than willing to answer any questions I have, I've never had ANY fees for any of the normal transactions I do, and I even had my card number stolen once and they had the money back in my account within a week (with minimal paperwork, I might add). If you're a Washingtonian I highly recommend BECU.
The new "Uber Banks" are a sneaky way to protect the "Uber rich" 1 percents money from being frozen or lost if/when the people rise up and make a run on the regular banks. Credit unions recently announced 650,000 new accounts since the OWS movement started encouraging customers to move their money from big banks to Credit Unions and small local banks.
Just for the record, the reason banks are nickeling and diming you is because the federal government is requireing them to raise capital because in this last recession they relied on leveraging (borrowing to buy assets) too much.
the whole $5 credit card fee was immediately after the government passed laws on how much they could charge other businesses on transaction fees. It is the governments fault.
@interstate317 My point was that they make billions of dollars in profits. They may cry because they actually need to pay for their fuck-ups, and I assure you they have the money to pay. They just don't want to cut in to their profits so they try to blame the $5 fee on the big bad gov't .
@trueclassic1 you do realize that the interest rates are set by the federal reserve right? What part of "We need to keep interest rates at zero" did you not understand?
@XXXXNanoXXXxxx credit unions do not have stocks. Instead if you merely deposit there you are a partial owner. All business look out for their investors and shareholders, the difference is that at a credit union, that shareholder is you.
@DillonDee1 "TRANSFER TO A CREDIT UNION NOW!!" hells yeah, I'm interested in doing that and I'm Canadian. If I were American it wouldn't be a question.
Same I am interested in credit unions as well, but then I remember, I live in northern Europe where we actually have some sound regulations of the regular banks so there's not much credit union options to talk about.
@underbjorn yeah I'm in a similar position. Our canadian banks are better regulated but there are a lot of advantages to investing in a credit union that reinvests in the community. But they can't subprime loan their way into bankruptcy, so its not vital like it would be if we were American.
@DillonDee1 no even after 4 yrs of money constantly running through safe credit union ,my girlfriend a 21 yr old student with no credit history was STILL DENIED a 500 credit line! nobody wants to fucking lend money anymore, i still dont trust the credit unions
Must be a Cali thing because in Florida (Jacksonville to be more exact), almost everyone uses credit unions because they're accessible, goin to a bank sometimes is pain in the ass
@WestsidePatriot This is true! It is a Cali thing only because our state, especially in Southern Cali, is so compact that there are atleast 4 or 5 branches from all major banks in every city and considering the number of illegal immigrants we have the major banks will never lose business because major banks never ask questions about how the money was made.
The moment the banks start playing with the top 1%'s money and starts losing bets our economy will truly and totally crash. Our government needs a divorce from the private banking industry before they are pulled down with the Bank's gambling addiction or at least pass legislation to stop this horrible cycle of gambling with our money.
I was glad that people did that. I joined BECU 7 years ago and love it. The branches were starting to get really packed tho of course. I was excited when I saw a few branches beginning to open up including another one down the street from my house. Yes!!
@iowntwocats they are horrible baby. they smell they trash everything and just want redistribution of weath. MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN MONEY AND STOP LOOKING FOR HANDOUT. Nothing but spoiled rich kids taking a break from class.
@xHail2theKingx its not about looking for money. They dont want money for themselves. They want reformation of our political system, which is currently owned by corporations. Don't you think that would be a good thing?
@iowntwocats lies.. their just a bunch of socialists and anarchists against capitalism...If political reform is what they wanted they would 'OCCUPY' the nations capitol and the White House instead they harass hard working men and women from the private sector.
@xHail2theKingx Wall street are hard working men and women? Those are the people partly responsible for the economic collapse. Not only that, they are the people buying and corrupting our political system with lobbyists and bribes. These aren't socialists and anarchists, they are mainstream middle class, protesting the shit deal they have.
@xHail2theKingx You watch too much Fox News. You are completely ignorant to the reason behind the whole movement. I have a Masters Degree and have an excellent career in the education industry for healthcare professionals, yet I am out there marching too. I have met both people on the sides of the aisle. We are trying to end the Fascist regime that has taken over both parties and our country. I hate having to say "both" parties. Absolutes lead only to bad things.
@xHail2theKingx Your comments to me just further proves your ignorance. I will not stoop to your level of personal attacks and abusive language. I was only trying to help you understand the truth behind this movement. You have much to learn young one. Comment back to me when you have a full understanding of the movement. Perhaps a lost cause, but If you go back and look at my previous posts, you will find that I am one of the few people who actually knows what I am talking about. Grow Up.
Why are banks gambling rather than banking? It is because of the Fed and the Federal Government. The bank doesn't care so much about depositors because the FDIC will bail them out and the bank will get the money back. The fed prints money out of thin air and gives it to the banks. The banks use that same printed money and give the the government and charge interest. It is all a screwed up system they got going on. Vote for Ron Paul. End the fed, stop the Federal government.
There is a silver lining to this dark cloud. If i'm running a bank hacking ring in Manilla, i'll know EXACTLY where I should be putting my grubby little mitts.
And there's no public blowback coz it's not like i'm raiding Little Timmy's college fund or Grandma's retirement nest egg.
Then again, sink a few dozen million into the top ad firms and I can make the American people believe that the sun rises in the west and sets in the east...
wells has accounts for every type of person broke dudes and ballin ass dudes.. A multi millionaire doesnt have the same needs as me and I most deff dont have the same needs as multi millionaires..
Anna you choose a real crappy CU. Mine has mobile banking and waives all atm fees. in fact they pretty much waive all fees in general. honestly im not sure how they make money.
I bank with Wells Fargo and have never been screwed, it has actually been the complete opposite. I have a student account and I don't have to keep ANY money in my checking or savings. Maybe Wells is doing this because they don't screw over people as much as other big banks do?
At least this will remove the illusion of equal service. Only the rich will be allowed to use this bank so all of the rest of the Wells Fargo's can continue to degrade services without upsetting their "big" customers. If they keep this up I am pulling out my twenty dollars and going to a credit union!!.....Wait, there's a $15 fee for that so...Errr-Nevermind.
It doesn't matter where they put their money now. A Constitutional Convention will stop the millionais/billionaris Crony Capitalism, and they will no longer own Politicians, and be paying their fair share of taxes. This Is A Call For A Constitutional Convention Now! Stop the curruption of our govenment.
@DarkStar1O9 They *do* think we are stupid. Because most people are. Carlin said it best. "Think of how stupid the average person is... then realize half of'em are stupider then that."
The rich are so because they have a system working for them, they learned that trick. The rich will not get screw like your average person. The poor will keep declining.
haha this bank will be the optimal tools for 0,01% of the 1% to rob the 0,99% rest.
.
Fucking cannibals, scavenging vultures always looking for a new victim like zombies.
Probably the owners of this bank will fool the 50 million dollar guys and run hide in nearest tax haven.
If big banks like Goldman-Sachs can't restrain themselves from committing crimes and see their directors investigated for financial irregularities, this will be amusing.
Ana seemed to imply that this new bank will have services that other banks don't. Other banks have these same services, just not included in the basic package. Therefore, the only advantage of this bank is that you will see less of the 99% around you.
They're not going to try and screw the super-rich over. Why? Because if a bank steals from poor/average people, nothing happens. If a bank steals from rich people, they go to jail.
Sooo.....What will happen if Wells Fargo gamble & lose all the money of the super-dooper rich (like they just did with the average workers money)?
Will they...
(A) Run to the government & ask (demand) a bailout?
or...
(B) Run away & hide as fast as they can if the government refuses to do another bailout, because they know that the 1% will have them assassinated (and make it look like an accident or suicide)?!
the deficit is owed to the american people, the government should tax the big banks and corporations then invest in public education and healthcare. the educational system in our country is where the real reform is needed. shitty public schools are the real reason of inequality, classism and racism. go watch the movie called "waiting for superman".
Ana the hypocrite in skirts doesn't like the big banks, BUT she sure loves all the perks big banks can offer, like online banking on her smartphone, which is built by corporations, which she doesn't like
personally I would like to see Bank of America lose far more customers because the super liberal Warren Buffett has sunk 5 billion into that bank and his losing some money would make my heart sing, for I hate hypocrites ssooo much
Also to add to my comment. I'm not protecting Obama. They are still making much more per year under Obama than under bush, but I hate missleading statistics.
I have a Regions account, and a USM credit union account mainly just to have one.
I call the USM CU about using them mainly since at the time Regions wanted to charge me $4, and the banker was excited, and I was too until she said I would incur $3.50 in charges to do so.
Why would I move my money to a CU w/limited locations and almost the same fees? (Now higher since Regions removed the fee)
Tyt... learn some statistics. In 2004 (when bush was president) 1$ was worth more than it is now. 1$ from back then would be worth $1.15 today. If you calculate it out, The ratio of profit from Bush --> Obama in terms of actual wealth is 72Bil (Obama):77Bil(Bush) which is actually 6.5% less. This is why statistics taken out of context are misleading. You really should have someone with some economic background checking your news or you'll end up sounding like Fox (Whom also does this crap).
my theory: that bank will never do risky bets at all. That bank will keep the 1% money safe while the money of the 99% deposit in all the other banks will be use to do bets.
All the big banks already have programs for the super wealthy and have for years. BTW some of the little facts are wrong. When u close ur account of course the banks let u but if you have outstanding charges or ur account is negative you need to make it positve. If ur account is positive they can give you a cashiers check or cash without an issue. No fan of the banks but u need to be accurate with the facts.
@Insanity12345 If they opened a bank called The Bank of The 99% and made you show picture voter id that you were NOT in the Republican Party, the GOP would soon be history as we could all move our money there and no longer have to deal with the scum.
The top one percent shall cannibalize itself. Friends will turn against eachother until all but one is left. then that one too will surely fall. This is my prophecy, you mark my words
WTF is wrong with Wells Fargo catering to the ultra wealthy? Big Government caters to all the poor entitlement slobs unwilling to work for a paycheck. Sounds like Wells Fargo evened the playing ground...

@iowntwocats they are horrible baby. they smell they trash everything and just want redistribution of weath. MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN MONEY AND STOP LOOKING FOR HANDOUT. Nothing but spoiled rich kids taking a break from class.
xHail2theKingx 3 months ago
@xHail2theKingx its not about looking for money. They dont want money for themselves. They want reformation of our political system, which is currently owned by corporations. Don't you think that would be a good thing?
iowntwocats 3 months ago
@iowntwocats lies.. their just a bunch of socialists and anarchists against capitalism...If political reform is what they wanted they would 'OCCUPY' the nations capitol and the White House instead they harass hard working men and women from the private sector.
xHail2theKingx 3 months ago
@xHail2theKingx Wall street are hard working men and women? Those are the people partly responsible for the economic collapse. Not only that, they are the people buying and corrupting our political system with lobbyists and bribes. These aren't socialists and anarchists, they are mainstream middle class, protesting the shit deal they have.
iowntwocats 3 months ago

I bank with Wells Fargo and have never been screwed, it has actually been the complete opposite. I have a student account and I don't have to keep ANY money in my checking or savings. Maybe Wells is doing this because they don't screw over people as much as other big banks do?

Great news... Now if Well Fargo needs a bailout they can call on the 1% and leave the tax payers alone...
rocky19421 3 months ago
At least this will remove the illusion of equal service. Only the rich will be allowed to use this bank so all of the rest of the Wells Fargo's can continue to degrade services without upsetting their "big" customers. If they keep this up I am pulling out my twenty dollars and going to a credit union!!.....Wait, there's a $15 fee for that so...Errr-Nevermind.

haha this bank will be the optimal tools for 0,01% of the 1% to rob the 0,99% rest.

Also to add to my comment. I'm not protecting Obama. They are still making much more per year under Obama than under bush, but I hate missleading statistics.
iPhTx3 3 months ago
I have a Regions account, and a USM credit union account mainly just to have one.
I call the USM CU about using them mainly since at the time Regions wanted to charge me $4, and the banker was excited, and I was too until she said I would incur $3.50 in charges to do so.
Why would I move my money to a CU w/limited locations and almost the same fees? (Now higher since Regions removed the fee)
strongpimphand 3 months ago
Tyt... learn some statistics. You really should have someone with some economic background checking your news or you'll end up sounding like Fox (Whom also does this crap).
iPhTx3 3 months ago
@iPhTx3 Even so it would still be 72 billion in 2.5 years compared to 77 billion in 8 years.
