Hai. Quite a nice tutorial for beginners; thanks for sharing it. I'm helping my friend to play this (I'm actually a bassist, but I play plenty other instruments too) but the moment you said "E (major) chord" it struck me as odd: does this song then bend its key or is it actually written in some irregular key that contains all these major chords (and effectively a, a#, and g) all in one consistent key? It's quite interesting seeing that it doesn't sound too dissonant. Perhaps it is the dmaj cho

WHY does this song use an E Major chord, when its in the Key of C?

Please someone answer, im trying to study music theory and this song goes ahead and breaks the "rules" leaving me confused.

@MrFaulconbridge e major is the major 3rd of the C scale. and major 3rds are used very commonly in songs, especially in fast swing or jazz. plus a third is used in chords containing the root, 3rd, 5th, and octave. in fact the C chord contains and e in it. however, if the song was a key of E maj, then it would be strange to use a C. but a C and an E harmonize very well.
