  • Thanks!

  • Very informative! Thank you very much for this video.

  • No offense, but the anti-skating part is wrong. It's function is to counteract the force on the needle while in the groove on a spinning record. The best setup is actually to get a test record with no grooves, drop the needle somewhere on the grooveless record WHILE IT IS SPINNING and THEN adjust the anti-skating to where the tonearm stays in place.

  • plz plz plz help my dial thing only goes up to 2.5 wtf do i do do i turn it all the way back round to the 0?????

  • I want this Slipmat!

    Cypress Hill!

    Thanks for this tutorial :)

  • Anti-skate is used to counter-act the natural tendency of the needle to pull towards the center of the record. A setting of 0 will not counter this force, and the needle will ride on the inner side of the groove slightly. A setting of 3 will create an outward force and the needle will ride on the outer edge of the groove. To balance the forces, use a piece of vinyl without grooves, place the needle in the center and adjust anti-skate until the needle stays still. DONE.

  • @ricktbdgc this video's about setting a tonearm not setting anti skate.

  • @MisterDukers

just wanted to add my 2 cents, you right tho.

  • i use ortofon pro s concordes and it is possible to get 4 grammes with a tiny little bit of room left. when it's set to 4 grammes it's virtually as far as it will twist on.

  • thanks a lot man! i think your video explained it best, and i watched quite a few.

  • haha nice slipmat :)

  • thank-you, very helpful.....going to try it out.

  • Really helpful video! But i have Ortofon Pro S cartridges what number should i twist the weight too? 1.5? 2.0? cheers

  • @patchward90 i have ortofons too and they suck.....move on to the shure m44-7

  • @patchward90 ortofon pro s should be set to 4g

  • @frequencycheck and what can i do, when i its just possible to set 2.8g, because you reach the end ? I do also need 4g, but its just possible to set 2.8 =(

  • When I scratch I put the full weight on the needle and full anti skate.

  • great tips mate, thx :)

  • just bought my first pair of decks today - 1210 mk2

this helped me out so much man...

literally the best tone arm video on youtube!!

  • big VID

might need some more help , I had 1210s but sold them but I make all my vids on youtube using the turntables that i take to all the house parties so they r fucked but cant aford new 1s , I thought it was the needle so I bought new 1s & still jumps I have to constantly clean my vinyls before use, & any bit of dust might make the track jump. I aint got the money anymore so i even tried wiping the vinyl wid water ,

    Ill try this .

  • @cheeckybutnice NEver use water man.

  • Bro, I don't know how to thank you, I am a CDJ type of guy, I just purchased a pair of 1210 M5G and a TTM57SL couldn't figure out how to set these bad boys out but YOU finally save the day. Thanks Man, you really know your stuff.

  • thank you soooo much. you saved my vinyl and DJ life. My weights were backwards. Now everything set and level. I just finished a practice set and there is noticeable difference for the better. Good job and thank again.

  • Great tutorial. Thanks so much.

  • nice slip mat haha

  • Thank You very much... alot of my so-called dj mates didn't know how to do this, they usually just had it at the heaviest weight on the vinyl. I am sure this has enabled longer life for my needles and vinyls.

Thanks again. I am slowly working my way through all those things I wasn't entirely sure on and it is helping me plenty.

    from down in Sydney

  • your needle should have a guard, just bring it down to protect the needle.

  • Comment removed

  • Only if the guard is designed in such a way that you don't have to physically remove it.

If you set the balance and THEN remove the guard, that won't do any good.

  • Could someone help with my problem:

I have Ortofon Concorde Pro S cartridge and my problem is that i dont know what weight i should have on needle pressure? am i doing it right if i have used 0,5 gm because on ortofon manual it says that equivalen stylus tip mass is 0,5g? - Im not good in english so i might have understand it wrong. Should i set it as in manual it says Tracking force range? its 3,5-5,0g and recommended is 4,0 ?? Thanks for any help!!

  • And my other problem (if it is even problem or just needs a minor thing to do) is that i have SL-1210 Mk2 turntables and i did setup as in video explained, sounds great and plays great. I noticed that when i lay tonearms to rest, right turntable tonearm is much more closer to turntable surface than the left one. Nothing wrong with the surface where the turntables and mixer are. All flat - if this information even helps at all :)

  • This is a fantastic clip. Before watching this. i cold never figure out how to properly adjust the turntable tonearm and antiskate. After watching this beautifully explained clip and trying this formula for myself on my 3 turntables, not only are the tonearms functioning beautifully, but the sound quality somehow is more wide. Thank you so so much for this info. I salute to you and all the turntable fanatics like myself. Long live the vinyl.

  • i cant seem to move the weight, like its locked in place, im twistin but its just stayin in same place?

  • You are turning the Minor weight, you need to be turning the whole larger part.

  • hes gotta be kidding haha, belt driven wtf!

  • why dont u check out his other like 100 videos using over like 20 different setups (:

  • j thank you, i have just bought a new 25quid record and it was skipping but after watchin this turtorial its all gud cheers!!!

  • Excellent excellent instructions.

    Thank you

  • whats the silver screw in weight for on top of the cartridge head, please reply

  • i cant find how many grams a shure m44-7 is?

  • is this a vestax turntable or a pioneer?

i know for certain it's either one cause i used to be a pro dj.

  • lol?

    pioneer doesn't even build turntables...

and a vestax turntable looks totally different...

i don't know if you're just joking or ignorant...

    btw, it's a technics sl-1200 mk2

  • i have some dvd's at home showing the dmc world dj championships but i never heard of a turntable called the technics sl1200mk2 in my entire life.

i have philips belt driven decks at home, they are great weapons of choise for sweep. i only wish they had pitch control on them, maybe i'll switch over to stanton t.50x this year and sell the phillips on ebay for £200.

    sweep

  • hm.. I don' know if you are joking or not but 1200's are the best turntable joints you can own

  • no i don't think so,i think schneider decks are the best. simply unbeatable.

  • its funny how stupid the sweepee guy is,

    I'm pretty sure he's joking lmao .

  • pioneer does build turntables. have for decades

  • LOL @ sweepee123

  • You're absolutely amazing! ... all the time!! Thanx, Cj

  • this guy hasnt done one bad video. hes a ledgend

  • Dude your the greatests thanks

  • Thank you!!!, now if I have the arm exact of my Technics SL-1400

  • lol i love the slipmat!!!

  • Hey, like your vid's. It's real nice to have someone like you get/give, important information to others. Maybe you can help me. I have an old sme tonearm, the sme 2 improved, I do not know how to aply your instractions on it, cause it as no numers and the anti-skate is a string with a weight on it and the nti-skate is an other weight o the right side of the tonearm, cannot apply your instructions with this arm, bt I did with other arm/s. Can you help please?. Thx.

  • "finger at the ready" haha

  • No matter where I set the anti-skate, the tonearm moves towards the tonearm rest, though it seems to move lightly more set at 3 than at 0. Even on 0, if I put a record down it will skip back repeatedly and if I float it with my finger holding it I can feel the pressure pushing my finger towards the tonearm rest. What gives?

  • straight tonearms prefer tonearms of the opposite sex =)

  • LOLS! NICE!

  • yar slipmat is a belter

  • great video!!!

  • I've been a DJ for a decade and that is the best tone arm adjustment explanation I have ever seen! Thanks Jonathan!

  • @goofballjm THEN U OVIOUSLY HAVENT SEEN QBERTS EXPLANTION

  • A good height to have it at is 3.5

  • how do you set it up if your tone arm only has a weight at the end like on a stanton t60?

  • best off reffering to the manual, which if you've binned, can be found on their website im sure, always worth setting up properly!

  • An absolutely crucial video for any beginning DJ. Very nice work.

  • sheeit, so that's what they

    re for, THANKS

  • very good tutorial...

  • i set the weight and height to the max!

now i know what to do

  • Love the slipmat

  • i just have my weight all the way down, not much chance of jumpin then lol

  • it's killing your vinyl, man!

  • hardly, the waits not even that heavy

  • lol, wurstbrot69 is right mate, more weight the more your needle is diggin into your vinyl

  • i know, so thats why theres less jumping and i have no problems with it so far

  • seriously tho....it aint good for your vinyl..or ur styli, loosen it up a bit and there'll be less wear...

  • I guess it depends on how long you want to keep your vinyl sounds good. If you keep it all the way forward your vinyl is not going to sounds clear for to long. Better start buying multiple copies

  • trust me, my vinyls are fine

  • well you'll think that as psychoacoustics play a massive part in your perception of how good a record sounds, you'll be 'used' to the sound so it wont differentiate in your mind from the original condition. trust me, weight all the way forward with maximum height absolutely fucking hammers your records. and your needle, creates more static which attracts more dust etc etc!

  • You genius you.

  • Just saying, you use the words 'actual' and 'in particular' a lot to describe things. 'At the end of the day' is a common expression too :p

  • haha that's true!

  • Copious amounts of "actual", yummy yummy. Maybe a "parallel" or two may have been useful though!

  • Haha.

  • cheers! much appreciated. been waiting for this one for a while!
