  • BREAKING NEWS: CNBC AND FOXBUSINESS ANCHORS ARRESTED FOR ILLEGALLY ACCESSING PRIVATE EMAILS AND PHONE CALLS.

THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN SOON THIS IS NOT A JOKE TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW.

  • Horse, use a horse.

  • hi bobby! just wondering what you think of nuclear power? most 'wooly liberals' like us are against such a thing.. however i'm still pondering it as i am not sure we have much of a choice now, and its one of the few things that the governments of the world are willing to support which doesnt pollute the atmosphere.. please reply!!

  • we will have to start a new industrial age industrial farming of bio fules in skyscraper farm with mirrors to reflect sunlight but shell and other ooil companies will still own that

  • Peak oil will let Mother Earth have a breath of fresh air. People will eventually have no choice but to garden, could be a while yet, but it will happen. I'm worried for people sure, but I see peak oil as kind of exciting - I'm sure Mother Earth would agree with me.

  • I guess we all get to be a bit more pragmatic

as we get a little older and little wiser, you begin to see cause and effect as more that just nice words in a text book cause and effect.

  • Since you are interested in gardening, Google "keyhole garden." These are tiny, raised gardens that the people of Lesotho are using as a way of combating the rising price of food. They can grow lots of vegetables in a small space, enough for a family, and even sell the excess. They truly do "garden for life"--they have no choice. I think anyone who has a yard should be encouraged to grow their own food. More self-reliance means less need for oil to ship our food to us.

  • Bob! You need to make this more interesting and stop rambling. I honestly will watch anything you appear in - once, purely on the merit of your Red Dwarf performances. But these videos could be far more interesting.

Inject some sarcasm/wit/evil into these vids. Then they will have universal appeal. Google 'Charlie Brooker' for inspiration.

  • Hi Bob, I just found your channel. I'm a long time supporter; even got a copy of Women Wizard (un-signed) kicking around some place, funny stuff. Anyway what i'm seeing in the US is expensive gas is having an effect on consumption; people are car pooling to work, small cars are showing up, and mass transit is packed. However the people who can afford the Range Rovers and Hummers are still pumping 40 gallons a week into their solitary commuter vehicles. That's probable not changing anytime soon.

  • Glad I havent got a car!!!

  • no but you still have the effects as oil moves everything else around the world, runs factories, and makes plastics......

  • then we are all messed up .

  • It's all lies. America is sitting on large untapped oil reserves. Even without these, there is enough oil for over 100 years. If we switch to all nuclear power generation, and gradually move over to hydrogen powered internal combustion engines, that will go up substantially. Maybe even hit a sustainable level.

One last thing, how do you take your kids to school, an average mpg car, or a defender?

  • Got a source for any of those claims, cause, I doubt it?

  • your Llubetube titles were small inset this time... didnt you pay your apple bill? hehe

  • I really liked this video Rob. What you were saying is a real eye opener - it's hard (and quite terrifying) to imagine a world with no oil. Thanks for provoking those thoughts.

  • Best video yet!

  • this just make's me happy that i don't want to learn how to drive, because this just show's that it might become obsilete.

  • 5 litres to the gallon aprox .

  • Fantastic to hear about Scrapheap Challenge.

I'm afraid, I wouldn't be able to get to work, if I stopped buying fuel, There isn't even a way for me to get there by public transport, and yes it is costing me a fortune, and I think most of what we pay in this country, is the tax on the fuel, are we mugs or what.

    great video (as always)

  • With your experience on Scrap Heap challenge, you will surely thrive in any Mad-Max Style post Oil apocalypse Britain.

The problem with oil, is it's used for far more than just fuel. It's an essential chemical feedstock for a huge number of industries.

  • So we can either get involved in the fantastic forthcoming bloody revolt/collapse of society... or potter about in the garden? I don't know about you but I think there's room for both!

  • Pea coil?

  • Great Video

    Need more on peak oil

    Allister

  • This was your best video ever!

  • i thought you said get a gun! would make it more intense life, but still happy more then ever

  • The reason peak oil has happened is because population has increased directly inline with the industrial revolution.

As oil has made our lives what they are people have had more children.

The peak is the point where the oil can no longer maintain the population (not due to having run out of oil).

The only answer is population reduction, by cutting down how many kids we have.

If we don't then human nature will kick in and it'll lead to genocide, probably from war.

  • Good for Scrapheap Challenge!

  • Get ready for $200 a barrel oil:

    infowars D0TC0M /?p=2157

  • Apparently, there are actually very substantial untapped reserves of oil, but it's difficult to get to, which is why it hasn't been exploited before.

Having said that, this is according to people within the industry and finance, so they have a vested interest. So short sighted.

  • I just bought a cargo bike to move shopping and stuff round in. Very good value.

Interesting about the peak oil situation, looking forward to hearing more...

  • Hello Robert! I myself don't own a car, and I'm not planning to. There's enough public transpo where I am, and I'm saving up for a bike to get me to and fro the town. I think it's healthier. Seeing a lot of unfit people driving huge vehicles... I think they could use a bit more walking from time to time.

  • If we wanna see you in Australia, your on ABC2 with Scrap Heap 6 nights a week! except sunday, lol.

  • People in the UK would kick a Nun to death for 30p a litre.

  • Yeah, I want my petrol for 30p a litre too! In this country the digits of the money you spend is always higher than the digits of the amount of fuel you buy, if you know what I mean. And that sucks! >:(

  • What they need to do is invent Mr Fusion from back to the future :)

  • As always, terrifc blog, and this week on one of my favorite subjects, the end of the world! Of course you are dead right about everything, except one thing: Electric car technology is not in its infancy but well developed. "Who Killed the Electric Car" was right, the availablility of these cars has been surpressed, especially here in the states, to keep the junky hooked. Keep putting in that big garden and lets remember to include everyone in this new tomorrow!

  • I feel I should ask, have you ever thought of doing a team up with the guys from Mythbusters?

  • Some interesting and disturbing thoughts around our manic petrol consumption. It's starting to bite here in New Zealand - and I like many others wonder when the change in how we use oil and petroleum products will come. Like you I am taking reffuge in my garden. More to start growing food so I can be come self sufficent. Chickens are next - for the garden that is and not extinction! Food for thought Bob. good video mate.

  • A programme for Channnel 5 ! any Nazis or sex in it.

  • Almost all of our ancestors lived completely without oil from the ground. Why is it so impossible for many of us to imagine to live again without cheap energy, plastics and other oil products? A world with less or even without oil consumption could be a nicer, better and healthier place. The progression towards a world without any oil will be a matter of several decades, but the prices for oilproducts and food could increase rapidly after the global peak of oil.

  • I believe its just the Peak of CHEAP oil.

  • Cheers again Robert, thanks for your time and your frank honesty.

Everybody knows the oil is gonna run out, but unfortunatly because its been around for so long it's become one of those 'but we've always done it this way!' things. Most people aren't going to change if they don't have to, its all conjecture until someone important turns around and actually says 'its all gone. thats it, what we've got is all there is.' and then, of course, we're all fucked. :)

    Please check out my channel!

  • Self-sufficiency is one answer to the problem of peak oil and the rising cost of living. Growing your own and 'making do' makes a lot of sense.

  • if it gets to the point were people have to grow their own, it will fall into chaos, people will simply rob each other! no good will come of this and it will all end in tears!

  • great video robert, thanks :)

  • I don't believe for a second that we are anywhere near running out of oil yet. The government is using artificial scarcity and the global warming scam as an excuse to jack the prices up and force us off the roads.

  • I really wish i could cycle or walk to work. But its 25 miles and i live where the public transport is not regular

  • Is this assumption that poor people have more children?

Or that if you have less kids to pay for you can afford a Chelsea tractor?

On a serious note, some real tractors by Ford are already equipped to run on biofuel, but since food prices are ever increasing nobody can afford to give up precious land to the production of biofuel crops. Yeah, we're fucked.

  • The energy situation does appear a bit bleak. The people who live in fortresses will continue to do so, and they'll continue to consume as long as it doesn't decrease their wealth or social status. Greed is so blinding. But no need to wear a pout, one must be hopefull and look for opportunity to contribute to a solution. I'll get to that right after I eat my chicken wings and laugh at a few videos... (Good vlog, and good luck with your scary endeavor!)

  • hopefully in 10 years everything will infact be ok,you never kno,w do you think that someone like yourself, could use their powers of persuasion to organise an event, something like bike ride for the environment, in an aid to encourage people to cycle to work insted of driving the x amount of miles?

  • Another cool and interesting video Robert.

  • Instead of letting the free market run its course the US government subsidises the price of oil in the US, which is why it is so much more expensive in the UK.

(Not a conspiracy theory, absolutely true, although I'm not sure why they do this)

  • The irony is that as the cost of oil/fuel goes up more oil resource's become economical to extract. So our oil reserves go up! But you're right we do need to find an alternative. However in the mean time please don't start knocking 4x4's mine does nearly 30mpg and when you look at whole of life CO2 foot print, it's actually quite "green".

  • I'm not supprised Scrapheap does so well. now that Friends is finished there's nothing on C4besides reality TV. I may get slated for that but it's my humble opinion that reality TV is crap.

anyway, love the show. keep on bloggin :D

  • Hey Robert, I suggest you watch the award winning documentary A Crude Awakening/The Oil Crash (think you can get it on google video for free) which explains the problem and consequences of peak oil very well. A little warning, it's relentlessly depressing.

  • Top Trumps! lol

Only us British could come up with a tv title like that :)
