It was kind of cool to be a knucklehead and claim your favorite band was also the GREATEST BAND IN THE WORLD...EVER!!!!!! But its kind of pathetic when a bunch of middle aged Homer Simpson like bozos still make that claim.Especially in light of the fact that thier favorite band were a bunch of thieves and wimps who could never hack the type of life that created the blues sound in the first place.Led Zep can amp it up,but they can never get that real hard feeling that Waters/Dixon had.
I agree that zeppelin went to far. But Stairway, other then that chord, is still there song. Perhaps, they should have put some kind of mention of Spirit in the Song's credits, I don't know. But some of the other examples are far more worrying.
@JoshMufc101 Correct me if I am wrong, but I am guessing the Stones and Dylan were better about actually giving credit to the actual writers of those songs. There is nothing wrong with doing covers, just give credit where credit is due.
it's true they didn't credit every artist but they did credit alot of them aswell, things were just different back then, not saying what they did was right but
It's amazing that there is all this hate for this group to believe that all people who have posted do not know the history of competing groups or are just so damn big cunt metal shit.
I would have been devastated if I wasn't already in the tailend of my Zeppelin idolization. A lot of their albums were filler in retrospect. (I should know I bought three.)
@98bigbutt I think Stern did it (with support from Classic Rock Historian Denny Somach) even before the Led Zeppelin reunion. Some guy also wrote a column about it sometime in the '90's.
album-wise, zepplin fuckin rule. but i have to admit that i was always disappointed when i saw live footage of them. plants voice in the song remains the same is fucking awful.
There's a difference between being influenced and having a bit of the other band in your music, and completely stealing a song and not giving writing credits.
amongst others. 'ramble on','song remains the same','misty mountain hop','four sticks','battle of evermore','over the hills and far away','kashmir','trampled underfoot',........ fuckin' most of their stuff. they lifted some stuff,i'm sure.
Yeah there is some problem in the crediting, but it certainly doesn't negate Zep's greatness. They used traditional blues licks and lyrics just like a million other rock bands of the day. The point is they added a new dimension to it. No musician "invents the wheel". They build on what has come before them.
Shitty zepplin did steal idiots hope they get assraped in hell. just because they stole it a long time ago n is in hall of fame doesn't make it theirs.

This is just bullshit. The first song isn't even that close. It justs starts out with an Aminor and the bass "travels" down the neck. As for the Willie Dixon song, it's only the lyrics that has benn borrowed. If these loud-mouthed idiots would have taken their swell heads out of their rear ends they would hear that neither riff, nor chords are the same. Idiots.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The Willie Dixon stuff is definitely stolen, but the Stairway/Spirit stuff definitely ISN'T close enough - there's certainly more than one note difference in the riff itself (I guess they're referring to the bassline). They didn't even get to the vocal melody, which is the part that really matters from a legal standpoint.
No, I know what I'm talking about. The bassline is very similar, and the picking resembles the Stairway opening - but it's straightforward arpeggios with no thumb-picking, and it simply isn't the same notes EXCEPT for the bassline. That's ignoring the fact that it's only a similarity of the intro, and Stairway has multiple sections and is 7 minutes long, it's not a one-riff composition. The Dixon rip-offs are bassline, vocal melody, AND lyric, and for key parts of the song.
I like Led Zeppelin, but they do get a little too much credit. Just me, but I think The Rolling Stones are the Greatest and the Best Song Ever is "Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who.
of course all of these bands from the 60's and 70's "borrowed" music and lyrics from black blues musicians. who the hell doesnt know that? the beatles, stones, zep, s.r.v., hendrix, cream, all those other white teen boys stols songs from old black people. i love your show, but i totally disagree with this. zeppelin is the greatest rock band ever !!!!!!!!!!
That's a lie. Those bands were influenced by them. Led Zeppelin flat out ripped them off. There's a difference. Led Zeppelin is the most overrated band in rock history.
@badtown88 , Your an idiot too! Led Zeppelin isn't overrated! Led Zeppelin's best songs are all original (Achilles Last Stand, Since I've Been Loving You, Kashmir, Trampled Underfoot, Rock n Roll, etc., etc.). Get educated Led Zeppelin haters, because that's what you people are.
@amstell13 It's mainly their first album except for Good Times Bad Times. Of course, their later hits were original. That's not the issue. Rock n Roll a hit? Hardly since it was overshadowed by a couple other songs on the album. Plus, Kashmir was the only extravagant one that you mentioned. Trampled Under Foot does kind of sound like Long Train Runnin' by the Doobie Bros. a little
Anyway, I'm not a Zepp hater so I wouldn't know what I would have been but you're saying they're educated.
@valkour22 Every Song. I think you're getting ahead of yourself here. First, every song has an influence and sometimes some songs just sound alike. They did rip off a lot of bands though and even PG has some uncredited covers.
@badtown88 Give me a break . .. they were KIDS ! Plant was 20 when Zep I came out. They were formed to fulfill a Yardbirds commitment and never thought they'd be this wildly a successful band. All this Monday morning quarter backing here. How many of you had a 'clue' at freakin' 20 ????
