  • Dr. Bones Mcoy? should be Leonard Mcoy.

  • @nerdfan91 I believe cassettes were invented conceptually in the 50's, and either Phillips or Norelco had them in standardized form commercially by the mid 60's. I remember as a kid seeing Phillips cassettes behind the electronics counter at the local JC Penny's around 68'. ("get outa' here kid. You're too little to buy anything")

  • Where did the name tricorder come from anyway?

  • @dewfall56 Its a scanner it records and diplays readings in three spetragraphic scales. Alpha Beta and Gamma. Hence the word TRI and Corder.

  • Wow. This commercial brings back a lot of memories. I owned one of those tricorders. I was 12 at the time. One Side 1 of the tape, it had the Star Trek theme & clips from Where No Man.., The Corbomite Mneuver & Mudd's Women. Side 2 was blank. That calendar on the wall at 0:48 from 1976--I owned that as well.

  • My cousin just sent this to me....I'm the kid at the desk, that's sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger....that's what growing up in Queens does to your accent.....does anyone have the "Super Jock" basketball commercial, I can't find it? That another classic I did....lmao

  • @imsok2u LOL, actually, I always thought you sounded more like the Godfather, or some other mafia guy. *snicker* But I have one of these and I love this commercial.

  • "Authentic replica"

    And looks nothing like it.

  • What a classic commercial! and what a cool toy!

  • @Chipsturs i didnt know u liked star trek dude !! love it

  • @SOUTHWESTENZ Yeah it's very much a past time for me, i was brought up on it thanks to my nan and grandad, they watched all series on sky. I don't own much merchandise, but i've always enjoyed it :)

  • @Chipsturs I had a Star Trek MEGO Star Trekulator (working calculator). "Digital" calculators were still fairly impressive & novel in the latter ½ of the 70's. They still weren't quite "common place" like today. Anyway, I used to briefly warm my batteries on the wood stove to charge them a bit. Well 1 morning I wanted to take my Trekulator to school. I was in a hurry so, using a 7yo's logic, I just set the whole thing on the stove. Guess what happened? Big'ol puddle'O melted plastic. :-(

  • " i got a tape from Johnny"

    "Get da Tri-code-ah"

    Where they at Starbase Jersey?

  • @kilowag Correction - Starbase "Joisey"

  • I had one of these... and it was awesome!

  • By the way. How does anyone have video from the 1970's? TV station archives?

  • @SPACEACE84 Most times these come from private film collectors like me. Usually TV stations would throw this stuff out or send it back, either way, it ends up in the hands of those who usually try to preserve these memories through video transfers, tape trading and other means to keep it around.

  • Boy, I remember I got one of these as a young boy. I blew it up with fireworks. I was a Trek snob even then. Could never understand why none of the Star Trek toys looked even vaguely like anything on the show. Sometimes you could stretch your imagination, but having the words "Star Trek" molded into the plastic in a funky Lost In Space letter style made me a bigger fan of fireworks. Now that I'm in my 40's, there's some decent collectible "toys" on the market! That's great, because fireworks th

  • Ok, so maybe the one I'm building isn't so big after all!

  • Holy Crap! I had that calendar on the wall!! 1976!!

  • what's a tape?

  • @Tweekki That's what kids these days probably really ask too

  • @Tweekki Primitive savages from the 70's era used it to store data much like we use flash drives today.

  • "Get the tricordah!" Must be from that Brooklyn on Rigel IV.

  • Spock loves you brother !

  • I also saw on the Mego Museum site, they also attempted to sell a Batman version of the same tape recorder, but it's unknown if it was ever released. It was identical to the Star Trek version except it was off-white/gray, and had the Batman logo on the cover over the controls. This one was called the "Bat Recorder".

  • "Authentic replica"

    LOL!

  • That is too funny! What a great toy for the kids, complete with the high tech. cassette tape ability.

I am still smacking myself around for not keeping the Phaser squirt gun and Match Box Enterprise.

  • I used mine not only as advertised, but also as a music tape player, until I got old enough to get a real stereo.

  • Not really an accurate replica at all. :P

  • Holy crap. I wonder what one of these is worth nowadays

  • I have one, but it doesn't work. I think it needs new belts. And the door won't stay closed.

  • "Get the tricodaaaaa!" LOL!

  • Haha, exactly! Git duh TRI-coah-duh!' The other ST toy ads have similar accents. So east coast.

  • May you please make a presentation video of yours and show the recording quality of voice and music? Thanks. I wonder if it is AC or DC bias...

  • "And comes with many displays!" Yeah...one!
