Interesting race. Never good to street race, but would have been more interesting to see a few more second as the S4 was slowing down to avoid the red car at the end. Anyways keep it on the tracks. I've known too many people get killed doing this stuff on the streets.

Who cares if a stock audi S4 can beat a stock 5.9 ? For one the S4 has a 5 speed transmission the 5.9 has only a 3 speed with overdrive (4). The 5.9 weighs about 600 pounds more, and its a BOX on wheels vs a small car thats more aero dynamic... Comparing cars to SUV's is stupid..
Plus i bet that Audi cant drive in 3 feet of snow, or pull 6500lbs of weight..

98' Jeep 5.9L has a decent amount of horsepower and huge amounts of torque but even with every bolt on, the Audi should win. Ive seen 5.9L's at the track dozens of times and WITHOUT a supercharger the best time ive seen is a 14.3 1/4. I do have an 08' SRT-8 so Im a big fan of the 5.9L, but I also know what a stock Audi S4 can do on the track, being that thats where I work is the track. Im guessing either the audi driver didn't have a clue what he was doing or the audi had mechanical issues.

@dylanjacob1 A 5.9L ram is COMPLETELY different than a Niner Jeep, and you underestimate the 5.9L Jeep. Bone stock the Niners are surprisingly fast, when you build the engine they can take on stock or lightly modded SRT8 Jeeps even. There are vids out there, but either way this shows a Niner can be faster than a stock S4.

I love hearing people whine about a modified Jeep versus a stock car in races. Point is power-to-weight is the only thing that matters, not who's got what or where. Yea you could probably bolt some stuff onto the Audi so it could take that Jeep and those mods would probably be cheaper than the guys project with the Jeep. But what you fail to realize in the process is that with the Jeep you gain a Jack-of-all-trades beast that was purpose-built to please. Try crawling a 45% grade with that Audi.

@dustyzj my friend karl has a 2000 durango SLT with the 5.9 and his transmission took a shit at 110,000 right before he bought it (owner told him) and he had to have it rebuilt at 210,000 miles by my friend. if you dont believe me i could have you get in contact with him!

Not true at all, although german cars are designed for the autobahn so in the high end in many cases yes they are superior. None of their cars below 60k have double the hp per liter than competetor american vehicles. This would only be the case for supercharged/turbo'd engines. N/A vs N/A german engineering numbers are the same unless were talking really high end.

@pauli4975 Your right, the 5.2 made different numbers in different cars due to emissions standards. The 5.2 in all jeeps from 1993-1998 was 220 hp and 280-285 lb torque. The 5.2 from 1990-1993 in dodge rams and vans made 235hp and 300lb torque. From 1994-1997 it made 230hp and 300lb torque. In 1998-2003 (last for ram van) it made 225 hp and 300lb torque. Same thing for the hemi in jeeps, it made 330 hp instead of 345 hp in the rams. Newer ones are rated for 350 hp instead of the normal 390 hp.

@Burntrubber87 Yeah that's how the engines are handled in jeeps, even the new ones today. They always have less v8 power than the v8 engines in the trucks. Even the jeep cherokee srt8 has 5 less horsepower than the srt8 charger and 300 c, the regular 5.7 hemi has 40 less horsepower than the one in the ram. I'm not entirely sure, but I think it is to pass certain emissions standards put on midsized suv's.
the 5.9 has 265hp the 5.2 has 230hp i have a 93' 5.2...back in its day i never lost to anything that had less than a v8 from a roll...at the highschool challenge she ran a 15.9 1/4 mile
The 5.9 in the US had 245hp. But even though the timing was advanced and had to run on premium fuel the numbers were the same as a Ram truck. I believe the 5.9 Jeep had more than 245, it sure drove like it.

@SW3434 I ran a 13.8 in this Jeep, and the S4 was stock and in perfect mechanical order... It is what it is. The 5.9 was faster than this S4.
Now I have an 06 SRT8 with tune, bwoody cai, borla, underdrive pully and a few other minor things. Is your SRT8 stock?

@dylanjacob1 A 5.9L ram is COMPLETELY different than a Niner Jeep, and you underestimate the 5.9L Jeep. Bone stock the Niners are surprisingly fast, when you build the engine they can take on stock or lightly modded SRT8 Jeeps even. There are vids out there, but either way this shows a Niner can be faster than a stock S4.

I love hearing people whine about a modified Jeep versus a stock car in races. Point is power-to-weight is the only thing that matters, not who's got what or where. Yea you could probably bolt some stuff onto the Audi so it could take that Jeep and those mods would probably be cheaper than the guys project with the Jeep. But what you fail to realize in the process is that with the Jeep you gain a Jack-of-all-trades beast that was purpose-built to please. Try crawling a 45% grade with that Audi.

The number one reason why any car will break down (unless it's a straight out dud from the factory prone to many problems) is not maintaining them. You have to do that otherwise they will break down on you and there is too much evidence in the real world to refute that. Jeep's are probably in the top 3 best built American vehicles of all time since they debuted in WW2.

Not true at all, although german cars are designed for the autobahn so in the high end in many cases yes they are superior. None of their cars below 60k have double the hp per liter than competetor american vehicles. This would only be the case for supercharged/turbo'd engines. N/A vs N/A german engineering numbers are the same unless were talking really high end.

@pauli4975 Your right, the 5.2 made different numbers in different cars due to emissions standards. The 5.2 in all jeeps from 1993-1998 was 220 hp and 280-285 lb torque. The 5.2 from 1990-1993 in dodge rams and vans made 235hp and 300lb torque. From 1994-1997 it made 230hp and 300lb torque. In 1998-2003 (last for ram van) it made 225 hp and 300lb torque. Same thing for the hemi in jeeps, it made 330 hp instead of 345 hp in the rams. Newer ones are rated for 350 hp instead of the normal 390 hp.

@Burntrubber87 Yeah that's how the engines are handled in jeeps, even the new ones today. They always have less v8 power than the v8 engines in the trucks. Even the jeep cherokee srt8 has 5 less horsepower than the srt8 charger and 300 c, the regular 5.7 hemi has 40 less horsepower than the one in the ram. I'm not entirely sure, but I think it is to pass certain emissions standards put on midsized suv's.

The 5.9 in the US had 245hp. But even though the timing was advanced and had to run on premium fuel the numbers were the same as a Ram truck. I believe the 5.9 Jeep had more than 245, it sure drove like it.

not really I have the same Audi in black... and it's automatic.. so... not all Audi's are manual.. in-fact their are more automatic Audi's than manual.. But Even if it was manual.. still got owned.. :D

haha that audi got owned by the 5.9. even though the jeep is in 4wd and is an automatic and is much heavier and less aerodynamic it still beats the s4
