yep, an apple tradition. all they've ever done is take good ideas from others and sell them under their brand. the time when they used to actually invent stuff themselves was long ago.
Multi-touch technology was first in created in 1982 in University of Toronto and Bell Labs. So this technology has being around for quiet sometime now. Since then it has being incorporated into gadgets in different ways for instance apple uses an electric field to detect touches in their iphone. Microsoft uses infrared technology in their surface computer to do the same thing. So basically no one is copying from the other.
Apple stole the GUI from Digital Research. Same thing with multi-touch: Take the idea, box it into a white user interface and sell it for twice as much.
I do agree with you, Apple does copy. However, unlike other companies (Microsoft) they don't directly copy the idea, but make it their own, and in some cases, even better. They don't have the first multi-touch computers, but they have the first multi-touch cell phone.
We'll take two examples. Front Row (a ripoff of Media Center, except crippled), and Apple TV (basically a Media Center Extender, which is better in the sense that it lets you buy TV shows from iTunes, but crippled in the sense that Apple likes to lock you into one vendor (in this case, Apple)).
Is Apple innovative? Sure. Are they as innovative as they let on? No, not even close.
Apple copies? hehe fuck off! what about THE WHOLE VISTA? Isn't that copied from MAC OS X? what about xbox? COPY FROM SONY AND NINTENDO? what about zune? COPY FROM IPOD. MULTI TOUCH IS A PATENTED APPLE TECH! THIS IS A CRAPPY COPY OF MT USING INFRARED!
And yes, it was announced in May 2007, the iPhone in January 2007. That doesn't mean development started on Surface or the iPhone on those respective dates, rather, those are the dates that the companies chose to show their creations to the public.
Not to mention that the iPhone and Surface are extremely different technologies. Both are touch based, but they work very differently. And no, Apple didn't come up with touch screens.
Microsoft copies everything Apple does, so don't mention front row and media centre they are completely different. WIndows was a an EXACT copy of MAC in 1984 and they still do it to this day. MAC OS X = VISTA. Apple invented multi-touch not touchscreens. They PATENTED the tech. so shut up
Front Row and Media Center are pretty much exactly the same, except Front Row doesn't do TV.
And Apple copied the Palo Alto Star from Xerox. The order is: Apple "borrows" the GUI from Xerox, Microsoft "borrows" the GUI from Apple. That said, there are only so many ways to make a graphical interface on a computer.
Multi-touch technology was pioneered by Bell Labs (multi-touch screens) and the University of Toronto (multi-touch tablets) in 1982.
Apple actually came rather late to the multi-touch game.
OS X != Vista. I've used both extensively, and they are nothing alike. Vista is much more like XP than it is like Vista (although OS X Leopard introduced some features into OS X that Vista already had).
AH, this must have been the prototype for the tecnology that they used for the "Microsoft Surface". Its quite amazing what they can do isnt it? They say every 10 years or so they make a tecnologiical break-through, or at least make some posibilitys.
Ew. Choppy graphics.

You're right, Apple does copy. Then they claim others copy them.
I'm glad that you're not just another blind Apple fan.
