  • I love the song she sings earler in this episode, please post !

  • Oh my god, somebody stop her.

  • Marilyn Horne... Thank you for all those magic moments that only your voice could create!

An great fan of you is watching this (again)... from Portugal.

    Thanks NYCOF for posting!

  • I remember her appearance on The Odd Couple. Richard Fredricks also appeared on The Odd Couple in a very funny episode that features Jack Klugman treying to act the role of Rigoletto while Fredericks (who has broken his ankle) sings the role from the wings. Klugman is simply hilarious...and Fredricks is a very good sport about it all.

  • Beautiful!!

  • Love it. Anyone noticed she is whearing her Carmen outfit?

  • @edgarbiervliet She was portraying Carmen in one of the previous scenes in the Odd Couple episode.

  • What a strong chest voice she's got! She nails it from the first note to the last! Splendid.

  • Grande Marilyn, la canta splendidamente

  • You can't compare the two. Striesand is a pop singer. Marilyn sings opera. Worlds apart. "Better" is a matter of taste, and what your ears like. ;) Both have a place, and while this is technically amazing, Striesand's version, imho, has more raw emotion, which is what I favor, though if forced to state the better singer, Horne wins the prize.

  • @iStageMom . I dont know of J Styne ever heard this version, but he said that no one could compare to Streisand in Funny Girl.

  • @iStageMom It's like comparing apples and oranges.

  • @iStageMom: Might you be implying that raw emotion comes from an untrained chest voice or a "pressed" sound?

  • Oh Marilyn...No

  • I won't compare Barbra Steisand to a Hyundai...maybe Britney Spears;) Streisand is more akin to a Toyota or Honda. Marilyn Horne is comparable to a Lexus or Jaguar. Enough about automobiles...you get my point:)

  • Weird setting, but what a performance! Great!

  • With every recognition of Ms. Streisand's admirable talents, I am certain she is and has never been capable of approaching the repertory and vocal mastery of Ms. Horne, who sings "People" with absolute musical acuity. Furthermore, Ms. Horne, a.k.a. "General Horne" or "Jackie," has always been well-liked for being a diva who is down-to-earth and not afraid, like "Babs," to let her hair down and have a little fun from time to time.

  • Absolutely correct!

  • With every respect to Ms. Streisand's admirable talents, she has never been capable of approaching Ms. Horne's repertory or vocal mastery. Her willingness to sing on this program is indicative of her affability and popularity.

  • GREAT ! GREAT ! GREAT! Marilyn Horne is one of the finest american opera singer ever. After this

Miss Streisand should conceal, hidde her version of "People"

  • im an opera fanatic and although I have to admit that Horne's 3 octaves and vast repertoire from Wagner to Rossini etc pales before Streisand's unbelievable music talent Plus Horne here is of tune (sings higher)

  • You are obviously a music ignoramus, comparing Streisand with Horne. Streisand is just a pop singer - she can only sing nonserious music; I don't even think she can sight-read music at all. Horne has sesveral decades of disciplined, intense & formal musical training under her belt. It's like comparing a Hyundai (Stresand) with a Lexus (Horne).

  • Barbra has perfect pitch, and she plays the piano, I'm pretty sure she could sight read.

  • streisand is just a pop singer, horne is one of the best opera singers of the last century, they cant be compared

  • I have to agree, Horne doesn't need to yell to get the point across, The chest voice has so much depth.. she puts out more sound than striesand ever could down there. The highs are wide open. Boy training really does it....

  • Streisand should conceal all her recordings after this.Streisand is voiceless, dumb

  • Ms. Horne is probably the best mezzo-soprano in the 20th century.

  • @KevinFromSD Not probably, she IS!
