flash is dying we will all be celebrating once flash dissolves into the mists of time. this is a waste of time doing all this. Flash plug-in into a browser should not be there it should be open source built into the browser. free for all not proprietary highly in-secure program. Running quake in flash is just a futile attempt to keep a hold of there market as we move into a new browser era.

Just google the term "irrlicht" to find out about it...

My question is, what about exterior media like 3d models, texture jpgs and sounds from .wavs, yada yada yada...

How would it be able to run it and get that in for use...

Okay I realize that I am looking at this with perhaps not enough knowledge of either languages... so forgive my ignorance... what advantages does this provide to an Flash user? Is it primarily for c/c++ programmers? I'm sorry I either just don't get it, or can't see any particularly amazing benefits. Anyone agree? or perhaps more importantly can someone shed some light on why this is a worth while concept. Cheers

Well instead of learn AS3 C++ programmers will only have just import their code into flash and make what ever they want though the clapping and cheering is really stupid but I can understand that It will be easier for some programmers who just wanna stick with C++

if you think of advergames or online advertising, it's revolutionary. You can make a 3D game for browser. Not a simulated 3d, but a real one. It's really cool.

Hmmm... from the looks of it, the Quake port he had up was running the software renderer and not with any acceleration. I wonder if AIR will be able to interface with popular libraries like OpenGL. On this, the vid left me unclear.

Flash Player 9 already supports full HD quicktime H.264 video decoding. Among a few other video formats.

Did you watch the video? It was about how next Flash could convert C/C++ code to run in flash player. And what they did was convert the original Quake to run in flash, which is amazing considering the speed it was running at.

It's run in AIR which a Flash desktop application. Not a flash player.

C++ is basically morphed C, leaning towards object-orienting coding and highly popular for its universal use, unlike vanilla C that was originally writen for use on UNIX - c++ evolved far out of scope of AT&T labs. Which is great thing - more and more coders, hackers and debugers learn c++ - also C++ very scalable. But where C++ really shines is SPEEEED :D

umm C++ is a programming language that is used alot in games, apps, etc. If you want to learn it you should first learn how to make a website using html not geocities :). jk.

You should actually skip C and Visual Basic.

After you finish learning C++ try learning as3 and C#
