  • There's only one Julie Andrews. As great as Audrey Hepburn was in this role, Julie Andrews will always be the best Eliza. She's just phenomenal.

  • There's only one thing in the world better than one Julie Andrews, it's two Julie Andrews!

  • This was a program run that had Julie, and two of her characters (Eliza Doolittle and Mary Poppins). They were snivelling at each other and Julie was trying to calm them. Really funny program!

  • This majorly confused me for a moment!

  • :D U R LOVELY

  • Julie's voice is my all time favorite. I also love Marni Nixon's voice, but My Fair Lady is not the best soundtrack for Nixon. She sung West Side Story and The king and I better. Julie Andrews sings EVERYTHING perfectly.

  • Dear Santa,

This Christmas, all I want is to be Julie Andrews.

    Sincerely,

    A Hopeful Singer

  • Julie is such an amazing talented lady... and here we can have a "double dose" or her huge talent! She's is the fairest lady of all!

  • i am very confused. can someone please explain to me how julie is singing with julie? sorry im a bit slow

  • @RichardElden Yes but it messes up this song because while she has a wonderful singing voice, she isn't great at doing Eliza's accent.

  • @KrustyRox she is the original Eliza. she played for Broadway but they wanted someone famous to play Eliza for the movie.

  • @Unintensify

    I know -.-

  • @RichardElden But her accent is very proper.

  • As amazing as Julie Andrews is, I think Marni Nixon sings this better. Julie has a very classy accent and it shows through when she's trying to sing in Eliza's voice.

  • @KrustyRox Julie had some problem learning cockney, she said. There is another video with all three, Julie, Eliza and Mary Poppins.

  • @cilrogers

    My point exactly....?

  • best eliza ever

  • who is marni nixon?

  • @jooodlez Marni Nixon is a singer. She dubbed the singing for a lot of famous movies, like My Fair Lady and the King and I. She also played Sister Sophia in the Sound of Music.

  • Oh My Blooming Gosh!!! what show is this excerpt from!!!??? do you know if everyone has the whole thing posted on youtube??? XD Thanks for uploading this! it totally made my night! :D

  • @pattychurra This is from the Julie Andrews Hour. The show didn't last long but I believe youtube has a couple other excerpts from it!

  • ....very simply: J. Andrews AS Eliza Doolittle

  • Julie is the truest Fair Lady there ever was! Audrey Hepburn is wonderful but there is only one Fair Lady!

  • @lezalee273 sorry but...I disagree with you.Audrey was is and always will be THE Fair Lady.but I admitt that Julie Andrews sings heavenly...as far as looks are concerned though and acting no one will ever top Audrey Hepburn!

  • @rockgirlsinger88 I don't think it's a matter of "topping" Audrey, because Julie was the first person to ever play the role.

  • @lezalee273 @rockgirlsinger88 Your are absolutely right lezalee!!! She literally INVENTED Eliza Doolittle; she was the first, and every other actress who took on the character, including Audrey, had Julie's work to model their efforts after... Oh I wish there was more footage of her playing the part! To have been there to see it in the flesh must have been amazing!

  • @pattychurra I know! In her memiour she says that she wishes that someone would have thought to video the show on Broadway. On YouTube there is a version of her doing it, but I believe it was the London group.

  • Favourite song, favourite person! :)

  • eliza doolittle is the character name (woman with flowers), julie andrews is the actress that plays eliza doolittle so they r both the same perrson

  • Too bad i wasn't alive back then to see her....*sigh*

  • Oh isn't this loverly?

  • Julie was far better than the talentless Hepburn.

  • Even I don't know how they got TWO Julies!

  • wowww she is so good!!! i've always LOVED her!!!!!

  • I can't tell the difference between them, lol. But their voice reminds when my grandma sang that song to me when i was in her arms before she tucked me into bed....I miss her, and I repeat this video or the movie, and it makes me cry....brings back memories. :-)

  • wonderful singer and actress

  • I think I like Julie Andrew's voice better than Marni Nixon's... her voice is richer and just that much nicer to listen to

  • @toitybeee i totally agree... and i love Julie infinitely... but its not amazingly fitting with her character

  • @toitybeee Also her cockney accent is way better, probably in part because she's actually English.

  • @toitybeee but wasn't the point of Eliza Doolittle's voice (before going to Professor Higgin) to be harsh sounding???

  • I think Julie Andrews is too much a lady to sing this. lol she's awesome all the same. :)

  • @MsJohannaRoseBarker I agree with you :) , but she's always fantastic!! :)

  • how in the devil did they do that? especially since it was on stage?

  • Simply Brilliant and LOVERLY ..God Bless Julie Andrews ...saw her live at Wolftrap in Vienna, Va in 92 ...Thank the Lord I saw her before she lost her singing voice because of that damned Doctor....He should lose his license....

  • Um...most awesome video ever. Julie Andrews duets with herself.

  • @bwaygammagurl It's Mary Poppins all over again . . .

  • Eliza Doolittle is just the name of the character. :)

  • both are Julie ;D

  • Shes a legend!

  • Even when she's trying to sound off key and such it's still very lovely song

  • you mean a very loverly song :)

  • Julie Andrews is in the vid and has been performing in hte broadway.

For the film adaptation of it, Audrey Hepburn was selected as 'Eliza Dolittle' and Marni Nixion as her singing voice.

  • didnt Marni Nixon do the dubbing for Natalie Wood in West Side Story?

  • yep, and minor bits for Rita Moreno, as well

  • Wasn't Audrey Hepburn dubbed? I heard that somewhere. Still a nice actress, don't get me wrong.

  • Zelli,

Yes she was, her songs were all dubbed by... Marni Nixon... if I remember right.

  • Yes youre right!

  • @2kiwigreeneyes Marni Nixon dubbed the songs for Audrey Hepburn in the movie version--Julie Andrews sang her own songs in the broadway version which came out before the film.

  • Julia is amazing

  • @britmanuk *Julie :)

  • She had so much talent she could harmonize with her self, and STILL sound b-e-a-tiful! I LOVE Julie Andrews, she is one of the best singer/actresses ever!

  • Remember Julie Andrews created the role of Eliza in 1958, and when Warner Bros. decide to do the film version, she was refused because she was unkwon, so she did Mary Poppins instead and won the oscar for best actress in Poppins over Audrey... for playing Eliza...lol....

  • How the heck do they do that????

Two Julie's?? A double helping of PERFECTION!

    THis is great!!

  • have you ever learn of the technique called split screen?? that's often use in television in the 70's along with the blue screen... in our day it's green screen....

  • I LOVE HER VOICE!!!

  • i prefer julie for this role over audry. The first I saw the film I didint like the fact they dubbed it..

  • Shut up, that woman could sing very well...Julie and Audrey can both ing beutifull!

  • That women can sing very good , better than you

you wish that you have a voice like that

  • I was talking about Hepburn.

  • Ah, a flame troll. Take your attention seeking ADHD behaviour somewhere else, ObamaRules4Ever.

I'm sure there's a prescription for ritalin (or is it ricin) with your name on it somewhere.

  • i think that audrey hepburn should have sung it ecause she's wondeful in Moon river

  • Wonderful!!

    I love Julie Andrews!!!

  • Audrey Hepburn wanted to sing this song in the movie. She recorded it but they threw it away because they didn't think it was good and when she was told she walked off the set. She came back the next day apologizing for her "Wicked Behavior".

But during the restoration of the film they found the track she recorded. She sounds good!

  • i think julie should have plaid her in the film, i actually love hepburn, i think she was absoloutley gorjus in that role, and didnt need to be dubbed, this is just from the point that andrews plaid this point on stage for ages, then they just gave the film to hepburn, thats not fair, both, abosolotley wonderfull, elizas, tho, x x

  • sorry let me clarify, i meant to say she did play the role of eliza on broadway, butyou should be able to tell she didnt dub for the movie because her voice is so distinctive.

  • smart people... julie andrews never had anyone dub for her.. and her voice is distinctive enough that you should know that.

marnie nixon dubbed for the movie, ifyou watch the special features on the dvd you can hear audrey hepburn's version of 2 of the songs.

    =]

  • Though I think Julie Andrews is one of the best suited for the role but I think Audrey Hepbrun also performed well as Eliza Doolittle. Either both can pull off the character well

  • Actually, Audrey Hepburn originally sang the voices. She apparently did a lot of serious training for the role. However, the producers decided to overlook this and have it post-synchronized. Some people say that that might have cost Hepburn an Oscar nomination for that role.

  • Audrey hepburn didn't suck at all! She was brilliant in this role! Of course, Julie Andrews would have been brilliant too, but I don't like when people offend Audrey. It's not her fault that they didn't use her voice in the movie. And it's not her fault either that Julie Andrews didn't get this role.

  • I heard she refused the role at first out of respect for Julie but then they said they will offer the part to someone else and it still wouldn't be Julie...

  • audrey didn't sing, julie andrews sang for her

  • lol are you sure about that?

  • lol yeah i am

  • Julie Andrews was the original stage version of Eliza. When the movie was made, they chose Audrey instead because they wanted a box office star. Her singing was judged inadequately, so although she was capable, she was dubbed by Marni Nixon instead.

Where exactly did they say that Julie Andrews sang for Audrey?

  • LOL to all of you

MARNI NIXON dubbed "My Fair Lady", NOT Julie Andrews. By the way, Hepburn's singing was never ever considered, Marni was hired from day 1

  • Well, you're wrong.

  • but XBECKIIIJANEX is right, she did.

but in the song "Show Me" it was Marni Nixon.

so sad, Julie Andrews can no longer sing anymore because of surgery.

  • She still sings though!

  • Actually the voice which sang all of the songs in the My Fair Lady movie was an Italian or something woman since Audrey Hepburn couldn't sing, or she didn't like to *shrugs*. Yes Julie is awesome and whats more she visits my area a lot so I want to see her really badly!

  • LOVERLY!!!!

  • Is that two Julies in that video ???

  • yes, there are 2 x)

  • I LOVE HER VOICE!!!

Does she actually sing the part in the movie?

  • She was in the original Broadway production of My Fair Lady before doing Mary Poppins

  • no she doesn't.

  • she has the most amazing voice, a great actress and one beautiful woman!

  • "you've forgotten already!" :)ihih

    wonderful!!!!!!!!!

I love Julie!!! she's so amazing and talented!!

  • Her Cockney isn't bad at all. She might miss a vowel here there but at least she ignores her Hs and she pronounces "still" "stew". Great Performance from one of the greatest!

  • Oh I love this! She's amazing! Great video!!

  • The orchestral arrangement is awful... but that's not the main point.

  • she is so young! i love that woman, she is so amazing

  • i laughed so much at julie's cockney, not near perfect but sooo cute.

  • she's amazing :D

  • haha... that was priceless!

  • I wish she would've been in the Audrey Hepburn version of My Fair Lady! Love Julie Andrews!

  • Julie's Cockney is adorable!
