This was a program run that had Julie, and two of her characters (Eliza Doolittle and Mary Poppins). They were snivelling at each other and Julie was trying to calm them. Really funny program!
Julie's voice is my all time favorite. I also love Marni Nixon's voice, but My Fair Lady is not the best soundtrack for Nixon. She sung West Side Story and The king and I better. Julie Andrews sings EVERYTHING perfectly.
@disney43075 It's a double take: first they recorded Julie (or "Eliza") singin' and after they recorded the other part. It's an old TV special effect (split screen). The audio mix is superb taking in account that this recording must has been made some 35 or 40 years ago!
As amazing as Julie Andrews is, I think Marni Nixon sings this better. Julie has a very classy accent and it shows through when she's trying to sing in Eliza's voice.
@jooodlez Marni Nixon is a singer. She dubbed the singing for a lot of famous movies, like My Fair Lady and the King and I. She also played Sister Sophia in the Sound of Music.
Oh My Blooming Gosh!!! what show is this excerpt from!!!??? do you know if everyone has the whole thing posted on youtube??? XD Thanks for uploading this! it totally made my night! :D
@lezalee273 sorry but...I disagree with you.Audrey was is and always will be THE Fair Lady.but I admitt that Julie Andrews sings heavenly...as far as looks are concerned though and acting no one will ever top Audrey Hepburn!
@lezalee273@rockgirlsinger88 Your are absolutely right lezalee!!! She literally INVENTED Eliza Doolittle; she was the first, and every other actress who took on the character, including Audrey, had Julie's work to model their efforts after... Oh I wish there was more footage of her playing the part! To have been there to see it in the flesh must have been amazing!
@pattychurra I know! In her memiour she says that she wishes that someone would have thought to video the show on Broadway. On YouTube there is a version of her doing it, but I believe it was the London group.
I can't tell the difference between them, lol. But their voice reminds when my grandma sang that song to me when i was in her arms before she tucked me into bed....I miss her, and I repeat this video or the movie, and it makes me cry....brings back memories. :-)
Simply Brilliant and LOVERLY ..God Bless Julie Andrews ...saw her live at Wolftrap in Vienna, Va in 92 ...Thank the Lord I saw her before she lost her singing voice because of that damned Doctor....He should lose his license....
@2kiwigreeneyes Marni Nixon dubbed the songs for Audrey Hepburn in the movie version--Julie Andrews sang her own songs in the broadway version which came out before the film.
She had so much talent she could harmonize with her self, and STILL sound b-e-a-tiful! I LOVE Julie Andrews, she is one of the best singer/actresses ever!
Remember Julie Andrews created the role of Eliza in 1958, and when Warner Bros. decide to do the film version, she was refused because she was unkwon, so she did Mary Poppins instead and won the oscar for best actress in Poppins over Audrey... for playing Eliza...lol....
have you ever learn of the technique called split screen?? that's often use in television in the 70's along with the blue screen... in our day it's green screen....
Audrey Hepburn wanted to sing this song in the movie. She recorded it but they threw it away because they didn't think it was good and when she was told she walked off the set. She came back the next day apologizing for her "Wicked Behavior".
But during the restoration of the film they found the track she recorded. She sounds good!
i think julie should have plaid her in the film, i actually love hepburn, i think she was absoloutley gorjus in that role, and didnt need to be dubbed, this is just from the point that andrews plaid this point on stage for ages, then they just gave the film to hepburn, thats not fair, both, abosolotley wonderfull, elizas, tho, x x
sorry let me clarify, i meant to say she did play the role of eliza on broadway, butyou should be able to tell she didnt dub for the movie because her voice is so distinctive.
Though I think Julie Andrews is one of the best suited for the role but I think Audrey Hepbrun also performed well as Eliza Doolittle. Either both can pull off the character well
Actually, Audrey Hepburn originally sang the voices. She apparently did a lot of serious training for the role. However, the producers decided to overlook this and have it post-synchronized. Some people say that that might have cost Hepburn an Oscar nomination for that role.
Audrey hepburn didn't suck at all! She was brilliant in this role! Of course, Julie Andrews would have been brilliant too, but I don't like when people offend Audrey. It's not her fault that they didn't use her voice in the movie. And it's not her fault either that Julie Andrews didn't get this role.
I heard she refused the role at first out of respect for Julie but then they said they will offer the part to someone else and it still wouldn't be Julie...
Julie Andrews was the original stage version of Eliza. When the movie was made, they chose Audrey instead because they wanted a box office star. Her singing was judged inadequately, so although she was capable, she was dubbed by Marni Nixon instead.
Where exactly did they say that Julie Andrews sang for Audrey?
Actually the voice which sang all of the songs in the My Fair Lady movie was an Italian or something woman since Audrey Hepburn couldn't sing, or she didn't like to *shrugs*. Yes Julie is awesome and whats more she visits my area a lot so I want to see her really badly!
Her Cockney isn't bad at all. She might miss a vowel here there but at least she ignores her Hs and she pronounces "still" "stew". Great Performance from one of the greatest!
There's only one Julie Andrews. As great as Audrey Hepburn was in this role, Julie Andrews will always be the best Eliza. She's just phenomenal.
