It increases the probability of the percentages. Running it once brings a lot of luck into play, but running it multiple times allows the odds to come through. The guy behind has more chances to split and the guy ahead can avoid a bad beat. Usually you will see that in a big pot because it reduces the luck factor.

I understand what you are saying. If you have a guy in bad shape, why give him two or three chances to hit his card. But if you have 500,000 in the pot you don't want to take a bad beat. I kind of agree with you, I would want to run it once but it's just a way to reduce the luck factor. The more you run it, the more the odds play true.
