I have this in my iTunes library after searching literally for YEARS. Thank God for the world of digital uploads. This is in my "top five" favorites from back in the day. What a funky-ass song to dance to! This sucker takes up 17MB! Worth EVERY bit!
if anybody cares, thats dennis chambers on drums....i was in 11thgrade when this came out!!! this was the jam......all you wac ass rappers take note!! jray
In Detroit thinking about renting a hall and throwing a dayz of wayback jam with old school classics like this with some zapp/roger, tom browne,whodini,heatwave,ojays,tempts,cameo,etc,etc......you get the point.....think it would go over well?
This take me way back in the days. It was bad song back then and still is. I've been a big fan of P-Funk eversince my sister turn me on to them growing up. I had the chance to see the P-Funk All Stars perform in Germany when I was station in the military. George Clinton you're the man and I still have my sunglasses on.
@MrWjd47 Best parts: 2:45, the screaming lead at 3:10, , the feeling of going down a rollercoaster at 7:41 and the return of the girls at 8:24(who is that screamin lead?) the harmonies (like at 9:20)...heck, the whole dang song is a revelation!!! This song rivals "Knee Deep" as a classic anthem.
@patsyrays1stborn Agreed! Bernie was the Funky backbone. He was in a Funky place all the time. For George Clinton to have never picked up a single instrument....Bernie Worrell (and others) made him look like a GENIUS! Well, actually he was...in his own Funky-Madness World. He was genius enough to en-Vision the entire P-Funk storyline and then assemble the cast of characters he needed to make it happen.
Man Hangin Downtown Pittsburgh with George Clinton and the Brides of Funk and all George wanted to talk about was the Steelers ...and all I wanted was to get to know the Brides...Great Post
Can anybody let a brotha know where to get a clean download of this to the Zune or the IPOD? All the way back to Tha D circa 1981. We made ours the P over in Bloomfield too, y'all! Lone Pine Road never got ovah us bumping this jam LOUD at Cranbrook. Even the white folks had to acknowledge this was tha bomb! From Palmer Park to Rogell to Rouge and through Mojo all across the Metro....still missin' Mojo today. Needs to be on XM. Hazel was a baaaaad man!
@MusiciansRule07 Don't nobody know nothin' bout this unless they was from detroit michigan listening to mojo/ thewizard or marvolous marv your mid-day DJ! WGPR.
@MusiciansRule07 ....Joy Road!!!!!!!!!!!!! What up doe!. This is the anthem from back in the day. Chillin' @ Belle Isle or Edgewater park!! or in my own hood - CODY FIELD! Home of those '85 Comets... I'm feelin' you fo sho!!
For those of you who were fortunate enough to see a P-FUNK show in the 70's, you remember some classic music! George Clinton, Berine Worrell, & Bootsy Collins were simply the best! When the Mothership dropped, it was all over!
in the summer of '79, The Electrifying Mojo had The Brides at the studios of WGPR in Detroit. my friend and i rode down from Flint to see them. once we got there, jefferson ave was off the meat rack - there was at least 350+ people in front of the station dancing to this while they looked out the window! PRICELESS !!!!
I rememember when The Electrifing Mojo use to play this song about twice a night. I missed that DJ. He used to play all the funk jams back then. The nighttime DJ in Detroit.
WOW!! You remember that??? That was CLASSIC!!! I was in that mess as well, I was 13 at the time and I remember seeing some Errol Flynns and some BK's hoping not to get caught in a cross fire!! That was Detroit back in the day. Mojo was ahead of his time.
@davelip007 I remember and I was there at a Average White Band concert at Cobo Hall. The Electricifying Mojo was the man. Now I understand they have taped music programs and I don't listen to the top 40 anymore. Music just has not gotten better it was gotten worse.
The first concert my brothers ever took me to was a p-funk concert @ either Joe Louis arena or Cobo in Detroit in 79 I was 4 !!! This stuff was force fed to me when I was a baby, I thank them still to this day ! Great stuff.
Despite what the tag words say, this is NOT Bootsy Collins playing bass, it's ME, Bruce Nazarian. Guitar too, but I don't think that's me playing the solo - only the lead stuff at the very begininning.
@ThaGrooveallegiance Id have to go back and check the track listing for Fuzzy's LP - Probably most if not all of them... on Eargasm, Disco Lady for sure...
could someone PLEASE POST "Didnt mean to fall in Love" & "I'm Holding You Responsible" from this same Album, the wicked vocals and Guitar in "I'm Holding".... Mike Hampton Kills!!
Cool, I can remember going to the record store and buying this album, returning home and letting the needle drop on this sucka... and playing it all evening with my headphones on full blast.

I think that you got caught up in the moment for a second there. I love this song, all 15 minutes of it, but you better not be trying to imply that it's in the same league as "(not just) Knee Deep". Knee Deep has a better concept, better production, a better guitar solo (one of the best ever) and is a clearly superior song.
