A great selection and the best of the Moody Blues. Knocked and admired in equal measure, MB epitomised their era and today bring their music to a whole new legion of fans.
Play on MB!...you've made your timeless mark on this world, whilst todays tin bands struggle to make theirs.
Alright lovely people that watch this video. There is another video that looks exactly like this that is stolen and being used on another channel. I will not allow this to happen so please flag it. Go to goddessprojectvideos channel and look for Moody Blues "Have You Heard The Voyage."
@tommusicfan19 So you're mad somebody else is using your video after you're using somebody else's music? Kind of ironic eh? The Voyage is still a great piece of music!
I remember a music book I used to have in 70's. There was a quote in it where it was talking about you being on a trip, soaring through space, exploring galaxies, and then you realize you're still lying flat on your back on your living room floor...listening to the Moody Blues. THIS must've been the tune that inspired that quote. Great stuff!
The moody blues took us by the hand, each album a lesson book, to grow, to gain insight into who we are and what we can be.My life now in my 60s would hav been empty without their gifts, esoteric, metaphysical , metaphoric .words fail to reflect my deepest thanks . my lessons soooo complete. jus waiting on the bus...
I love this trippy tune; it sounds real spacey in some places, haunting in others. Warning! After listening to this track a few times, it’s stirring lyrics and spacey tune will likely return to you later! It waxes richly contemplative. It was so different than anything else of its time; the Moody Blues showed that music can be used to take people far beyond everyday life. Others groups should try extend their talent this far. It cements a much wider and devoted following.
@cloudjia This album, "On the Threshhold of a Dream," came out in the first half of 1969. Their next album, "To our Children's Children's Children," came out later in 1969.
Love this song. Don't know why. Just feel so good when I listen to it. The Moody Blues are the soundtrack to my life - a constant that brings nothing but peace and joy.
From their album,"On the threshold of a dream". The archetypal Moody Blues.
Eternal and outstanding. From what I remember the album was cut in 1969 and stayed in the number one spot in Britain for over a year. I bought it in 1972 whilst at college.
A legendary set of tracks from a great musical age.....ageless and beautiful it can only be the Moody Blues at their best......and a great video as well.
When I ascend to heaven,( I've booked), these tracks will be my backdrop.
This song brings back so many pleasant memories! I still play my Threshold of a dream album frequently!!! The Moody Blues ia my favorite group! Just saw them in concert and they sound as good now as they di then!! Their music is very poetic! They are Genius!!!!!
Love Mike Pinder's technique with the pitch bends. Haven't heard anyone else that can do them like Mike! Also the tone he was able to get from the mellotron. He used to work at Streetly Electronics testing the trons. They are not easy to play due to the taped sounds only lasting 6 to 8 seconds for each of the keys, yet he could make it sound so smooth! These early recordings are incredible. Thanks for the great memories.
the moodies played this suite toward the end of their show- they started with 'are you sitting comfortably" then moved straight into "have you heard the voyage and then have you heard pt II. Mike Pinder's mellotron was at its peak- very loud and created its own wind. the lighting was an eerie purple with blue hints which made the band appear to be floating in space.
and it was mind blowing- this was when a concert was a big get high event and not alot of don'ts and cops.
@manliter Look at 6:47 into this song. There is a girl with a guitar standing stage right playing along with the group. She is most probably a back up, but she is playing and singing with the group.
What's Jumpin' Off?! Any Delaware Valley-ites remember the #1 Soul Brother Psychedelic Phil from Camden, NJ? Late 60's to mid 70's Used to throw the wildest house parties for "Heads Only." Been told he was at Camden Co College from '75-'78. Holler at me if you know/knew him! R U there Adrienne Eve from Garfield Ave?
@lkl8 - Yeah, this is Mike Pinder - Mr Heavyheavyheavy songwriter. . . He was the Lennon to Hayward's McCartney (though the parallel is not nearly exact). During his time with the MB's it was such a great mix of heavy and beauty, deep and light, cosmic and "Lovely to see you again, my friend."
@murple - Many a rabbit hole, yes - the one only the Moodies could take you down. . .
@280553vs - many of those rabbit holes ended up soaring in some galaxy. . . somewhere. . . with some God somewhere.
these guys are spiritual and i have learned so much from their songs. Saw them in Dublin way back in '89 i think. life's ambition fulfilled. Thank you MB's for helping to make me the person i am today. love you always.
Does everyone else feel the energy in this song? Sense the day this song became in existance, it still moves life in such a great way. A time of great music I am glade to have grown up listening to it too!
The Moody Blues take me home to Christi B., I have never known a love such as she was to me. I love you Christi, I always will! There are only one true soul mate in life, Christi is mine! XOXOXOXOX
@radr4lf55 Well, that's pretty much what millions of us did when we put our vinyls of this stuff on those old Sony's, Panasonic's and Dual's 40 years ago. Sheryl Crow said she knew a vending machine repairman who got high on existentialism, ya know. And that's what we did. The seven albums from 1967 to 1972 were each "trips" from the first to the final note. We listened. We felt. We thought. We grew.
I would listen to them all night while in college and attended some of their first US concerts. I've seen them most recently at a 2008 Christmas Party in Dallas, TX up close and personal, they still send shivers through my whole body.
it is like seein an old wonderful friend Lucinda, I know they are inspiring the contemporary indie bands. cool. I was a "surrounded by friends " constantly" but still painfully lonely teen. This and other music helped me feel less lonely.
The younger peeps dont seem to know this music. It makes me feel like writing a theater peice to go with it. Smile smile Has anyone seen them recently , its still great? would love to know?
I'm going to see them tomorrow night but I did see them about 1 1/2 years ago. They were fantastic! I think the voices have done well and the music just gets better and better. I took my 28 yr. old daughter who grew up hearing me play their music. She said it was the best concert she had ever been to!
I took my 27 year old daughter and my 2 year old granddaughter and 8 year grandson and my 21 year old son who's name is Justin, of course, and my 10 year old son...his name is Jonathan... 2 the September 09 show in Memphis! Thank you for the post and helping to create more generatins of Moody Blues fans! Peace, my fellow Moody fan! Long may they rock! They sound as GREAT as ever!
I added another generation in September as I took my 74 yr. mom to her first MB concert. She loved it! I think it's the best MB concert I've ever been too and I've seen them about 15 times since the mid 80s. I had the time of my life! It was just them, no orchestra and they rocked the Fabulous Fox Theater in St. Louis -- wish I could go again right now! I had to exercise restraint though, John was only several feet away from me and I was on the aisle on his side!!! LOL
Never to late for new Justin/ Moody Blues fans! love to all! Peace my friends! I had to do kind of the same thing! I was standing so close I could have touched John at one point and all I coould do was just look and remind myself to breathe! Had to miss the past three years due to an accident, but am on the mend and, if I can help it, I will never miss another concert!
Love znd Peace to you and your precious mom! Tonya
Great job, Tommy! This is my favorite Moody Blues song. Seeing the album cover "This is the Moody Blues" brought a smile to my face - it was like seeing an old friend! Thanks again!
What a beautiful song & video. Will see them in Costa Mesa-CA in 3 weeks for the 22nd time. Outdoors, close to ocean, sunset, Moodys playing!!! Not much can be better.
I as well remember the First time i ever heard of the Moody Blues,,where i was,and the circumstance as to how i heard them...Knights in White Satin ,to be exact, and my Mother was home listening to them,i walked in,,she shssss'd me with closed eye's and a finger to her lips shushingly .lol..soo into the music..
Thank You Moody Blues..and My Ever soo Missed Mother,,she's probably Shusshing the Angels,,and Listening to them ^i^ ^i^ ^i^ I Love you :)
absolutely love the Moody Blues... thanx goes to my parents to exposing me whenever we went camping... now every time i hear a Moody Blues song i think of where i was when i heard it... its amazing... love them... born in '92 btw... younger generation has some good class in it still
this number makes me get goosebumps. kinda sad too. i think it's great that the younger generation finds meaning in these songs. (drooblat). inmo, anything after 1979 can't compare.
Back in '94 my dad turned me on to them via a doubled-sided casette. In Search of the Lost Chord/ On the Threshold of a Dream. I listened to this section so much that I began to hear the other album come through in reverse as the tape wore down. The Moody Blues was the perfect medicine for the cultural infirmities I suffered through the enticements of the pre-adolescent renaissance known as grunge rock.
About forty years since first getting into this song from my favorite Moody Blues album, it still rates to me one of my top songs from my favorite group of all times. Thank you YouTube for this great website and nice job from the maker of this video. Moody Blues are Masters of this higher level type rock. And do they ever rock out live-see them live,. if you get a chance. And they really belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame of the Universe.
Good day to all of my fellow Christians, firstly my apology for being out of topic. I came here to remind you people that the judgment day has started already. I urge you my fellow Christians to depart from all form of unchristian conduct lest you be found not worthy to inter the kingdom of God in the Day of Execution. Please do not misinterpret my activity as spam; I did not do it for that purpose.
enjoy the music Jim,kick your shoes off... take a deep breath and let the music take you away to that place of total relaxation! Have a great weekend!
Gruntol5, you have a good point re: R&RHofF inductees and the Moodys, one I have begun to have myself. They are too special and amazing to be gathered into such a musically confining group. There has not been a single time that I have been bored with their music and I first heard them back in 1967. Their concerts have constantly improved over the years. I've had the pleasure to see them five times, the last in Portland OR 2001--and, it was the best! Thanks for your comments.
I wrote to the Rock in Roll Hall of Fame about the MB, asking why in the world they weren't included. I got a very long reply, but the short of it was the RRHF doesn't care about all the folks who have voted for the Moodies either by mail, email or phone. They have there OWN way of selecting which artists are chosen and that MAYBE one day the MB will be selected. So basically --- the fans don't count.
It's not appropriate to have the MB's in R&R Hall of Fame. Here's some of the first choices they made (1986): Buddy Holly Chuck Berry Elvis Presley Fats Domino James Brown Jerry Lee Lewis Little Richard Ray Charles Sam Cooke The Everly Brothers - All Americans (of course!) I'm not saying there's anything wrong with these artists, but the Moody Blues are a world apart. I would hate to see them in this company. They were/are far too special and in a class of their own..
Every time I hear a MB song I'm amazed at how they can continue to entertain and inspire me! God, I'll miss them, but at least we'll have their tremendous music...and the dreams.
Why the pictures of the band when Patrick Moraz played keyboard? You know this is Pinder on the vocals don't you?
I don't think the band ever played this song after Pinder left. This is a sore spot for those of us who love the "core 7" sound. It seems that they are stuck with their own issues & there will no reunion - not even a studio video.
Good point! Not to take anything away from Moraz (very talented in his own right), but Pinder and the mellotron were at the heart of so many of the Moodies' songs. What a band!
What can be said about the Moody Blues except they are the GREATEST BAND EVER. They bring back many memories of how it was in the 60's and 70's. What wonderful years they were but thanks to the libes look what we have today God forgive them for they no not what they done.
I still remember the first time I heard this song, immediately following Alison Steele the Nightbird's open on WNEW FM. Worked perfectly after the flute music and that moment in time sticks with me to this day --
"don t ever hurt anybody. neither physically nor emotionally" - John Lodge
great band. nice lads. a class act indeed.

grew up with the MB's and I still can't get my son(20) to slow down
enough to listen to them. Once the kids get hooked on hip hop their
minds are on a different frequency. I miss the music and experiences
of the late 60's and my senior year of high school-1970. We all just
assumed that this band was "spiritually enlightened" and we were going
to grab every word and note to our heart. They were musical poets and
we knew they had something special. Thanks for letting me rock on.

Great job, Tommy! This is my favorite Moody Blues song. Seeing the album cover "This is the Moody Blues" brought a smile to my face - it was like seeing an old friend! Thanks again!

absolutely love the Moody Blues... thanx goes to my parents to exposing me whenever we went camping... now every time i hear a Moody Blues song i think of where i was when i heard it... its amazing... love them... born in '92 btw... younger generation has some good class in it still
swatkat16 2 years ago 5
this number makes me get goosebumps. kinda sad too. i think it's great that the younger generation finds meaning in these songs. (drooblat). inmo, anything after 1979 can't compare.

The moddys music has always and still does warm my heart. What amazing musicians.

So basically --- the fans don't count.

they have to be one of the most creative musicians and song writers there has been. And so under rated!

It seems that they are stuck with their own issues & there will no reunion - not even a studio video.
piano1newbie 3 years ago 3
