hi.. i am new with my nikon d90. and i have purchased this yesterday.. can you teach me how to do the same with the 7:29 part.. i cant do the zooming part on that blur type to natural. i cant do that and teach me how.. i cant understand that thanks..
Hey. Brilliant review! I'll like to know, if canon eos 600d is better. I know, that this camera is older, but it's also larger and they're equal, when we talk price. Will you please answer my message?! ;)
Hey, I've decided to get the D90, regardless of how old it is, it has everything I want and need in a camera! The sensor is bigger and greater, even if it's previous generation!
Thank you for your review. I never had an SLR camera and am very much interested in photography. I'm planning to buy Nikon D90. Could you please recommend some good books or videos to get more info on the features.
@failureatphotography It depends on what you want it to do. For video, yes, it's dated. However, for normal photography is will be just fine. Unless, you need faster burst rates, or higher ISO performance. Otherwise, you can get really good photos from this.
if you can afford a d90,buy it. the d5100 is one of the so called "baby nikons" because it doesn't have a AF-motor,and the d90,is semi proffesional..the d5100 is something like an entry-level dslr.
I love this camera. I have no reason to upgrade unless a D800 comes out (still I'd hold out for a good 18mo) I still recommend the D90 for people looking to get a DSLR. Having an AF motor makes it better than any of the D3xxx, D5xxx, or lower end versions. Being able to have a Sigma 70-200 2.8, nikon 85mm 1.8 or nikon 50 1.8D is great, especially for their prices! I'd only recommend getting a D7000 if video is super important.
Wonderful review sir, I was just wondering if you would reccomend me to purchase Nikon or Canon in general? which one you think its overall better than the other? I understand it is very hard question, please do try. Thank you very much.
@cameralabs yeah because your clear and loud voice is terrible, not that it conveys the information extremely well and tells the viewer all the information you need.
hi..i just want to ask you guys which brand (between Nikon & Canon) has a cheaper price for the lens? im very tight on the budget right now but i really wanted to buy a DLSR, can you help me out here??? :(
my nikon d90 just arrived today and i have to say, after a few hours players with the camera, it is AMAZING for the price and would recommend it to anyone considering an entry level DSLR. i done atleast 10 hours research on every DSLR camera from the £300-£700 price range and the nikon d90 camera tends to come top vs all of them, (including nikon d3000, d3100, d5000, and d5100. I mean let's face it, the lay out is great and it has the same picture quality of the nikon d300s which costs £500 more
@lilbonbon213 You know those movies when you see the sun travel very fast, or the skies, or cars. The thing I dont like about the D90, which I have, is the filming aspect. I have a 18-200mm lens and when I film the colors dont pop as much and the details when I upload it to the computer as compared to the Canon 60D. Am I doing something wrong? What are the best settings to be on when filming with the D90?
Hey guys I don't understand something. Is the D3100 older than the D90? I bought the D3100 pack from COSTCO and I thought it was new. If the D3100 is newer than the D90, why is it cheaper than the D90? And why does a new D90 cost a grand? My friend told me that the lower the number (like 3100 or 90) the better the camera quality is, is that true?
@PiNoIbOi95 They're just different models of cameras, the D90 being better, so it costs much more. It's not better because it is a lower number, that's just the name of the model. In that case, the D90 would be a better camera than the D300 or D700, which are both professional grade, more expensive DSLR's. The D3100 is the newer entry-level DSLR from Nikon, that's why it is cheaper. The D90 is on the higher end of the "consumer-grade" spectrum.
@PiNoIbOi95 d90 is older but a far better camera. lower numbers dont have anything to do with it, d90 is better than the d40/50/60/70/80 but isnt anywhere near as good as the d3
As Gordon said at 9:17 in this video.. The only thing this Camera is lacking is weatherproofing. If it had been fitted with a weather proof body. It would have been 100%. @71shoelover it's like you spoke directly to me :) i have a D40 and i'm looking to upgrade....also i have 2 18-55 mm and 55-200 mm lenses should i keep using them if i get the d90?
@nauc93 I know where you are coming from with the lens. If you upgrade to a D90 you will be able to use the non-motorised lens to auto focus. (as the D90 has a motor in the body) I dont know what pictures you take, You might want to add a 50mm f1.8 to your collection. The affects you can get with this lens are great. You can blur the background right out and the image in focus will be pin sharp. The D90 is down to around £550 (body only) and is a lot of camera for the money.
i need a little help from you gordon:) i am upgrading my camera (d3000) and im still confused whether which i should get, the nikon d90 or canon 60d.. im only after the quality of the photos, not the video thing.. which can you recommend? thank you so much..
hello Gordon... I have a big dilemma, dont know which one to choose, nikon d90 or sony alfa 580... any recommendations? Maybe you could do a review on Sony? I cant find any proper review on it. Nikon feels better in my hand tho...
hello everyone. i just want to ask if the lens makes the difference in taking photos.i have a nikon d3000 at first. then this month i bought d90 (just the body) and i used my d3000 lens. i used it and when i took a photo of a landscape it seems like i just used a normal digicam when i transfer it to my pc =(
@ycarob You have to have photographic knowledge. You can't think it's just the camera. The lens is what help make a great image, but without knowledge it will look average.
@pucholo143 Either will be fine, the D5100 is cheaper, and cannot autofocus D-type lenses (such as the 50 1.8D) but can autofocus G type lenses (ones w/o aperture rings), the D5100 has a slightly better sensor. Whichever you can get a better price on. I'd get the D90 is you have a lot of nikon F D-type lenses. Hope this helps! BTW neither choice is wrong, whichever you are more comfortable with is best!
@Feketecske Out of the three, the D7000 is the best. It's got 16mp, shoots 6 fps, 39 focus points and is the best in iso performance. The D5100 is a beginner camera, yet it packs up 16mp, 11 focus points with iso performance extremely close to the D7000, but it shoots 4fps. The D90 is the lowest of the three cameras YET I'd pick it over the D5100 simply for the fact that its not a beginner camera. It's got 12mp and iso performance is almost as good as the D5100. So get either a D7000 or D90.
@timjonasd Yes absolutly, feels great and takes great pics :) spent alot of time looking for the right camera(!) for me and ended up with the D90. If you have the chance you should go to the store and try how it feels to handle! I'm very happy with my D90, and by reading on alot of forums there seems to be many equaly happy owners of D90. The filming isn't to much to brag about, but I didn't buy it to film, just for pictures :) var billigst hos- komplett(dot)no- 5 996 kr, med 18-105 mm linse ;)
@CyberJuanito D90 is still the better Nikon model. You can simply infer this by its (D90) higher market value in spite of the fact that the D5100 is supposedly a "newer" model than the D90. :~D
Gordan I own the D90 and I am considering changing to the D7000 or D700. The thing is I am not concerned about the video feature. Is there not a camera that does not include video but as good as the cameras I am thinking of.
it looks like the distance within what appears semi professional and professional is small nowadays. d7000 is all many of us need, visit... freedslr . cong change ng with m and acquire a free of charge d7000
What do you think, is the Nikon D90 better or the Nikon D5000. In some months I have enough money to buy me one of that cameras but I'm not sure which is the best for me. At the moment I'm using a usual Digicam and the D5000 or D90 will be my first SLR. Well, I want a camera which has at least 12 megapixles and lots of features. Which camera can you recommend?
@Cedramaaya i´m no expert but i do have the d5000 and the d3100 and i have to say that the d3100 is also a great camera, just as good as the d5000 if not better
"Digital Rev Tv is way better" - so that's all VTsnowboarding said, and i thought he wrote a long paragraph and that one little sentence started a storm on this page...lol
anyways cameralabs, you're reviews are Great. but you can't deny Digital RevTv their reviews are great too with all those chicks and visually stunning exotic outdoor sceneries...
D90 is GREAT! I decided between D90 and 550D the moment I put my hands on the Canon. What a plastic piece of s&%#! D90 feels, looks and acts like a photocamera. Instead I could hardly hold the 550D... small and with poor ergonomics. The plastic felt like the cheapest single-use camera and the screen in the back with no protection is screaming for scratches. D90 has a great grab and I love the second screen and the back screen protection. 550D is just another expensive entry level from Canon...
@blacklordalex I can back you up 100%! Was stucjk between the two, went to the shop and oh my! the d90 feels like a dslr but the 550d felt like my little superzoom...
@blacklordalex VERY Well said. The build quality on the Canon DSLR cameras are SHOCKING.. Just feel the now replaced Canon 1000D ..It looks like it is something you would find in a christmas cracker!
@blacklordalex I had the exact same experience! I went to the shop to see which one to buy (gonna start photography this year) and the D90 works soooo much better than a 550D. Maybe it's cos I've already worked with D90's, but the grip on the 550 is just too small for me fingers :p
The D90is a great camera , takes amazing pics and is worth every penny over the the entry level D5000, If you want to use video mode the new D7000 is worth spending the couple hundred over the D90. Before buying a DSLR think about what you want it for pics or vid . DSLR is heavy to carry around all day for vids and over heat to fast, get a camcorder insted ,if you love taking photos look no further than D90.
Mr Gordon, Im Planning to buy a DSLR. My options are Sony A33/380 & Nikon D3100. Now Im NOT prioritizing Movie Recording. I just need a good Camera which can take beautiful Pics. I also like Pro features (not including movie mode) in less expensive cameras Eg Sony DSLR's. Which camera should I get? Sony A33/380 OR Nikon D3100.?
@rafeyavailable I have used both Sony and Nikon cameras and they both produce great products. But keep in mind when people are starting out in the beginning they sometimes buy 3rd party lenses. When I first started photography, I didn't have a lot of money and got some great 3rd party lenses from Sigma and Tamron. That is something it may lack with Sony as Nikon and Canon are huge and there are a lot of 3rd party products out there for them. When my budget allowed, I switched to original stuff.
You do a fantastic job, Gordon. Thank you for all the information. I'm in the process of choosing my first DSLR camera and your video reviews are so helpful. Thank you for the time you put into creating these!
I saw on cameralans site the results of the D90 and D3100. In the picture with the mountains looks like the 3100 has a sharper and much cleaner result at a lower ISO 100 not 200.To bad I can't see the focal lenght. I thought the D90 was better but now I don't know what to do.
I have the money in my hands and don't know what to buy... D90, D3100, EOS 500..EOS550... ufff!!! I really like the pentaprism ideea and hi res screen on D90
@Marlonpagaran: It may just be that the manual/autofocus switch has been switched from the autofocus "A" setting to the manual focus "M" setting. If this is not the case, then it's probably internally damaged and you need to get it repaired by a professional.
@SoJuDaMaN My honest opinion would be not to go with the kit lens as it's not fixed f/2.8 If money is an issue, go with 50mm prime but the quality of that lens would be superior to any kit lens.
The new D5000 cost little less than D90 but the specs are almost the same. If you save some money on the body, you could invest in a good lens that will last forever. I always suggest 2.8 or less if the budget allows. Most kit lens start with f/3.5 which would hurt in low light.

is d90 is still a good choice even if the d5100 has the new sensor and produces much better image quality?

AbstractFlare 8 months ago
hello everyone. i just want to ask if the lens makes the difference in taking photos.i have a nikon d3000 at first. then this month i bought d90 (just the body) and i used my d3000 lens. i used it and when i took a photo of a landscape it seems like i just used a normal digicam when i transfer it to my pc =(
ycarob 8 months ago in playlist Bikini d90
@ycarob You have to have photographic knowledge. You can't think it's just the camera. The lens is what help make a great image, but without knowledge it will look average.
msgilliam1474 7 months ago
so d90 would be a good pick? rather than the d5100?
pucholo143 8 months ago
@pucholo143 Either will be fine, the D5100 is cheaper, and cannot autofocus D-type lenses (such as the 50 1.8D) but can autofocus G type lenses (ones w/o aperture rings), the D5100 has a slightly better sensor. Whichever you can get a better price on. I'd get the D90 is you have a lot of nikon F D-type lenses. Hope this helps! BTW neither choice is wrong, whichever you are more comfortable with is best!

What's the best Nikon?The D90 or the D7000 or D5100?
Feketecske 8 months ago
@Feketecske Out of the three, the D7000 is the best. It's got 16mp, shoots 6 fps, 39 focus points and is the best in iso performance. The D5100 is a beginner camera, yet it packs up 16mp, 11 focus points with iso performance extremely close to the D7000, but it shoots 4fps. The D90 is the lowest of the three cameras YET I'd pick it over the D5100 simply for the fact that its not a beginner camera. It's got 12mp and iso performance is almost as good as the D5100. So get either a D7000 or D90.

timjonasd 8 months ago
@timjonasd Yes absolutly, feels great and takes great pics :) spent alot of time looking for the right camera(!) for me and ended up with the D90. If you have the chance you should go to the store and try how it feels to handle! I'm very happy with my D90, and by reading on alot of forums there seems to be many equaly happy owners of D90. The filming isn't to much to brag about, but I didn't buy it to film, just for pictures :) var billigst hos- komplett(dot)no- 5 996 kr, med 18-105 mm linse ;)

D90 or the new D5100? Please help!
CyberJuanito 9 months ago
@CyberJuanito D90 is still the better Nikon model. You can simply infer this by its (D90) higher market value in spite of the fact that the D5100 is supposedly a "newer" model than the D90. :~D

Gordan I own the D90 and I am considering changing to the D7000 or D700. The thing is I am not concerned about the video feature. Is there not a camera that does not include video but as good as the cameras I am thinking of.

Hi!
Thanks for answering! :-)

550D is just another expensive entry level from Canon...
blacklordalex 11 months ago 28
@blacklordalex I can back you up 100%! Was stucjk between the two, went to the shop and oh my! the d90 feels like a dslr but the 550d felt like my little superzoom...
ColouredcloudsSJB 10 months ago
@blacklordalex VERY Well said. The build quality on the Canon DSLR cameras are SHOCKING.. Just feel the now replaced Canon 1000D ..It looks like it is something you would find in a christmas cracker!
71shoelover 7 months ago
@blacklordalex I had the exact same experience! I went to the shop to see which one to buy (gonna start photography this year) and the D90 works soooo much better than a 550D. Maybe it's cos I've already worked with D90's, but the grip on the 550 is just too small for me fingers :p
DarkAngelEU 6 months ago
The D90is a great camera , takes amazing pics and is worth every penny over the the entry level D5000, If you want to use video mode the new D7000 is worth spending the couple hundred over the D90. Before buying a DSLR think about what you want it for pics or vid . DSLR is heavy to carry around all day for vids and over heat to fast, get a camcorder insted ,if you love taking photos look no further than D90.
angspec003 11 months ago
Mr Gordon, Im Planning to buy a DSLR. My options are Sony A33/380 & Nikon D3100. Now Im NOT prioritizing Movie Recording. I just need a good Camera which can take beautiful Pics. I also like Pro features (not including movie mode) in less expensive cameras Eg Sony DSLR's. Which camera should I get? Sony A33/380 OR Nikon D3100.?
Thanks :)
rafeyavailable 11 months ago
@rafeyavailable I have used both Sony and Nikon cameras and they both produce great products. But keep in mind when people are starting out in the beginning they sometimes buy 3rd party lenses. When I first started photography, I didn't have a lot of money and got some great 3rd party lenses from Sigma and Tamron. That is something it may lack with Sony as Nikon and Canon are huge and there are a lot of 3rd party products out there for them. When my budget allowed, I switched to original stuff.

lulualo19 11 months ago
hi, i was wondering if u can do a video on the Nikon D3100. Im think of buying
Lumanix1 11 months ago
Hello.
What should I do?
blacklordalex 11 months ago
@Marlonpagaran: It may just be that the manual/autofocus switch has been switched from the autofocus "A" setting to the manual focus "M" setting. If this is not the case, then it's probably internally damaged and you need to get it repaired by a professional.

Nikon D90 with 18-105mm vs Canon T2i with 18-135mm ? (around the same price)
What do you guys think? I don't care much about video and continuous shooting.
What camera is better for stills?
SoJuDaMaN 1 year ago
@SoJuDaMaN My honest opinion would be not to go with the kit lens as it's not fixed f/2.8 If money is an issue, go with 50mm prime but the quality of that lens would be superior to any kit lens.
The new D5000 cost little less than D90 but the specs are almost the same. If you save some money on the body, you could invest in a good lens that will last forever. I always suggest 2.8 or less if the budget allows. Most kit lens start with f/3.5 which would hurt in low light.
