There are 18,000 people that will be attending the islanders draft party this friday. The building itself holds 16,234 people for a hockey game. More then 90% of the fanbase wants Tavares, and if his name is not called when snow takes to the podium to announce the isles pick, well expect a riot, hardly anyone will show up to any games this year. And Kaberle contract is actually an amazing deal.. If you look anywhere two of the Leafs best assets for trading are a large amount of cap space and Kaberle's contract. A great puck moving defenseman who can QB a PP and play solid defense is hard to get for 4 million. Obviously the Leafs wouldn't trade Blake but i'm sure there are quite a few teams who want Kubina.

I don't know why but i dislike the way draft picks are made. I know that the team that finishes last needs the most help...but, Tavares as an Islander? The fans don't know what kind of talent they're getting and they still won't care. Teams like Canadiens, Penguins, Flames, Philly....they would appreciate this player. Sometimes, it's just hard for me to get.

As a Habs fan, every time i see the Canadiens in the Long Island, you would think that you were at the Bell Center with the lack of cheering for the local team. There are more Habs fans present in Long Island. I admit that the Islanders do not have as big of a following as many other teams in the NHL, however many of the fans live and die with the team. In terms of the stadium, if you are talking about the quality of it, the only reason there is not already construction underway is the long holdup in granting permits to the construction.

I feel like Tavares as an Islander, would only be appreciated by a small group of devoted fans as opposed to being drafted by a hockey city where he would be THE image of EVERY THING there. i agree. hedman will be an all star defenseman for many years. but you have to understand that we havent had a consistent scoring threat on the island since ziggy palffy, besides jason blakes fluke season. it would be nice to finally have someone that could put the puck in the net.
