  • Congratulations! For a small ensemble it sounds great and how everyone stayed together even when the siren is blaring in the background. Please continue the hard work with the kids.

  • great job for 8th grade band!

  • clarinets and trumpets O.O scary sounds

  • its actually horrible! out of tune, wrong notes & played waaaay off tempo. sorry!

  • Great job for 8th grade. Always better slightly under tempo and clean, than at tempo and inaccurate. Sustained notes are great, dynamics nice, ensemble 8ths are clean, and top range of the band is in tune and balanced. Tough to play in a gym.

  • This was a good song. When I played it in high school, we went a little faster but you guys sounds fine. To each their own, I say :).

  • I played this in high school! Great job for 8th grade.

  • I loved this piece when I was in high school. Its a very difficult piece for a grade eight band. Very good playing

  • we a playing this song it is my freshman year they took me off snare put me on crash cymbals our previous one left and as i see it my sr.band could put the extra effort and make it better good job

  • You guys are in 8th grade? Im in 10th and were playing it. It's high isnt trumpets? an it's Eb btw accidentals go thru the measure. It's really good tho and horns dont be scared to bring that solo out. Good job you guys! What tempo are you guys taking it?? Are you allowed to play this piece? It's like AA or something. Gah!! trumpets should tune to each other. Just cuz ur in tune doesnt mean those high notes are.

  • You ruined this overture playing it so slow and boppy, I dont care what you got XD

  • Hmm...It's a good performance overall but I'm pretty sure that the double forte Crash Cymbol parts sound just as loud as the single F when the guy/girl is playing them. That's all the band needs work on with the addition of harmony.

  • Ahhh... I remember my band playing this... but it seemed a little faster...

  • Well... My band is also playing this piece, and I can see some notable differences between my band and the one in the video. I am going to assume to that it is the conductor's choice in expressing this piece. The only problem I find is that there aren't enough french horns when compared to the trumpets. Either that or the french horns aren't playing loud enough.

  • im playin this aswell and im playin tenor sax. we just started playin this so i wanted to hear it

  • my teacher ade us play it a little faster than you guys. i figure it sounds odd due to the video recorder thingy.

  • the tempo seemed off for most of the song...that wouldn't be the band's fault though, it would be the director's...then again that could just be because you played a bit faster than my band plays it

  • lol

    alles schwarz-weiß außer die trommel:)

    ziemlich schlecht gespielt....

  • btw we dont hav troublt with the song its just keep ur beats....actually we dont hav TROUBLE with any song, we just prefer others xD

  • lol i luv this song im a freshman and well im the only freshman in the wind ensemble....still this songs nice...how bout u guys try Ballet Music from Faust by Gonoud(spelling?) and First Suite in Eb by Gustav Holst their both my fave songs....u guys r good but no one can beat John A. Ferguson High School Instrumental Ensemble....GO BASS CLARINETS :D

  • you guys got 2nd in festival. thats great, our band won a grand NATIONAL championship. But good job.

  • hey our middle school Raymond b. Stewart did this song.

  • Holy shit. This is the 8th grade band? Im in high school band, and half the people have trouble with this. Excellent job!

(P.S.: Power to the clarinets. ;D)

  • same with me im in high shcool and we are playing this song and half the people cant even play it............. lol and yes power to the clarinets because i play it too lol

  • hey im a band geek at rbsms our band is so hott we won natinals but u guys r goood! keep it up!

  • clean playing...there was a part where the tpets kinda went out of key, but still solid performance. we play this in our band. one of my favs. unlike ur schools in the US, we have players ranging from the 5th grade up to college level...all in one group... :)

  • no they didnt go out of key Im doing this song and at that part the notes are sharps. It does sound odd but it should sound like that.

  • it did sound odd...maybe they just didnt blend that well... :)

  • No it sounds like that for our band too

    its just like that

odd note choice by the artist

  • i have no problem with the notes chosen by the artist... i just wish the trumpets blended with each other better so that i would not have noticed any odd sounds in their playing... the artist chose those notes to make the piece awesome. the problem was that it didn't sound nice. No offense... ps. we play this too, and it didnt sound odd in that part...i play trumpet and i also conduct...

  • I have to admit you guys did a solid job. I just watched our Symphony High School Band play this, and to be honest... this doesn't sound as good for only ONE reason. The fact that youtube sound quality is crap.... Sorry, but whoever comments bad on this needs to a hearing exam. Good job, keep it up. Amazed to see that you guys are 8th graders.

  • Ziemlich durchschnittlich gespielt.

Wenn man genau hinhört sind überall Patzer drin

  • they play good we are playing in dallas texas and we go slower but is still good

  • they're not half bad. i can do it better. 1st TRUMPETS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but i'll cut them some slack they not bad. the trumpets were sharp. but it s really easy to do that. KEEP IT UP YOUNG PEOPLE

  • Our band is playing this tommarow for rating it is a really hard piece..especially how the lowbrass has that part at measure 35

  • For eighth graders, this isn't bad. There are high schools that've absolutely crashed and burned on this piece.

  • ew, we actually did sound a little bad... but thats 2 years of band and shorter band periods for you

  • I played this piece this year and Got gold for it, I love this song.

This is slower then we played though.

  • feels like they're playin this about 13bpm slow

  • thats what i feel too. We are playing this song right now. Seems we play it faster too. >.>!

  • what school?

  • Ah, I loved playing this song for my high school conference's band festival. I was 2nd trombone (though I was easily capable of 1st)

  • lol were playin this with a very small band, 4 trumpets, 3 claranets, 4 flutes, 2 trombones, 1 baritone, 1 horn, 2 alto, 2 tenor, 1 bari and like 4 precussion

  • yeah bari!!!!!

  • only thing to say is to dang slow.!!!!! and little of the tuneing. but thats pretty good, for eigth graders.

  • Wow...my band played this when I was a kid in Jr. High. We had intonation issues too, so don't feel bad. It's tough to get 80 7th through 9th grade kids to grasp that concept. Well done. Keep it up. Glad to see that there is still music happening in schools.

  • Maybe it was the recording device, but you guys weren't loud enough on the "triple f" part around 4:10

  • I know the triple forte is hard as hell

  • MAN IS THAT OUT OF TUNE

  • wow TheAtomicIndian

im a flute player in high school and this bands 50 flute players did not mess up. get your hearing checked.

    You guys did great btw.

  • lol were playin this with 3 claranets

  • hey atomic indian... i believe that that was the trumpets.. and they didnt mess up, those conelles are just super hard and sound bad at first because of that F the firsts have to play

  • It's really not that bad.

I'm a 10th grader, and my middle band played it and it sounded a little worse than this. So, congrats :)

  • wow at like 50 the flutes messed up...my band is playing and we could totally rock that place.

  • did these guys get second place? haha that point was made clear enough. my high school band is playing this song and not as well as this 8th grade band. good job

  • all in all not bad i think ... my high school is playing this now just kinda as a sightreading thing, just one thing i'd like to point out, your cymbal player whoever he/she may be ... try a "flam" type approach when crashing the top of the cymbal first then the bottom ... also try if you arent to hold them more diagonally because it sounds now like you are getting the air pocket in between the two cymbals creating that tone which isn't as nice as it could be ... thats all really good though

  • I'm in 8th grade, and we just played this on monday, and we will perform again next tuesday

  • I'm in 7th grade and we have to play this for a concert soon.

    Great job!

  • wow good everyone sounds in tune (unlike most bands I've heard on here)but I have a different verison of the song.

  • I think I did hear a few mistakes. Could be a little faster, too.

    Otherwise, great job!

  • clarinets had good tone quality.

  • how many bands were at the fest?

  • You guys did a great job:)

& yes, this is coming from a waiakea student!!

but seriously, you guys are really good:)

  • in my highschool band we play it at like mach 5 lol trumpets could probably work on the fingerings though. and plz dont say i dont know what im talkin about, i do. i play the trumpet

  • ouch if you got second place 3rd must have realllllyyyyyy sucked

  • i love this song, we are playing it now

  • why so much background noise?

  • We have faster tempo in this song. This is great song and is better on live.

  • this song is like soo awesome =)

  • my band just played this at the melbourne school band's festival. it's really cool =]

you know the bit at bar 9 [i think it's bar 9] with the clarinets? we did that with a bass clarinet backing it up instead of a brass instrument. sounded rad. really clean and awesome.

i play bassoon and loved this song

good work on the bit after the trumpet fanfare =] that's hard! what do you play?

  • wow the flutes messed up really bad D: i played this on flute soo yeah i kno.. xD

  • ...I'm kinda mad that eighth graders can play better than my hs band XD We did this song for our spring concert this year and at the graduation...it only helps that our trumpets can't play to save their life though XD

  • that was good. how long did you guys have to practice this? cause i'm doing a summer band camp and we have one week to learn this song.

  • I admit this is exceptional for a middle school band...most definately. It sounded cleaner than ours and we're in high school...congratulations!

  • lol. you can hear an ambulance at 1:46

  • Good JOb!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They messed up in the 1st trumpet solo

  • Wow. The people in this video really deserve to be proud of themselves.

  • Wow, your guys performance was amazing for an 8th grade band. Congrats for the 2nd place! The only thing i saw or could hear was the trumpet solo. But everyone has problems with the solo, even our high school band did. Some of the cords were off, but that is very common, we also had problems. And of course dynamics, but we had problems like that also. Overall, very very good. My highschool band also just played this peice and Prospect in the state Concert Band festival. Very good for 8th grade!

  • woot!woot! double b flat tuba

  • I'm surprized you guys got second with a performance like that!! My HS (2 years ago) took 6th in Oregon with this peice, but we were only a 16 peice band.

I was also 1st chair alto sax, and at 1:33, I must say your Saxes sound pretty dang good, with much room for improvment... The Sax soli call/answer section was my favorite part through the peice. Must be great having French horns and trumbones! This is a hard 16 peice song ;)

  • Ohhhh... They didn't like the last half of the song.

I meant the first sentence as a comment, Btw ;)

  • Not bad, its funny how you guys sound better than my school, and its a HS, lol

  • being a fellow sax player, Id have to say saxes were a lil too much, shudve let the french horns played out more. Also, the trumpet part at measure 33 can be worked on. Very difficult! But good job overall

  • oh man... the memories this song brings back when i played it

  • good job, this song is pretty obnoxious to rehearse

and you guys did pretty well

your low brass section is pretty small and there were some trombone/low winds parts tht werent played out as much but its solid

  • you'll did really good we're playing this song but way faster it is really hard

you're snare player did really well especially on the second page it's really complicated and confusing when you play it the original tempo

  • In in 7th grade and at the slow part, i play it much slower. But, you guys did great and i think you did it better than me. P.s. I love the two clarinet solos; they're so peaceful and graceful! I give this video 10/10!!!

  • You guys played that really well my High School band ,which im in now, is playing this song and the first clarinets have no clue how that part goes and you guys could show them up any time. I play flute and theres only 3 of us who now how our part goes and thats 1st 2nd and 3rd chair, i'm 3rd chair btw lol. Keep in mind that there are like 9 flutes so yeah we sound suckish

  • Well i just wanted 2 tell u guys that i haven't hear this song or played it in about 8 years. & i really enjoyed listening 2 u guys play it. But here's some tips. 1st clarinet amazing. Watch the trumpet section bcuz they have a major but essential part the the song. When it came time 2 play there part they were just a little flat/sharp but u would expect that if there lips r 2 tight. But over all I would give u guys 1st place. Can't wait 2 c more videos. Hop that I was helpful. Take Care

  • &who was first cHair clarinettttt?

    :D :D :D

  • Awesome! This video is a good example for our eigth grade band, who is playing Toccata for our concert in May. Except our trombones and saxophones never practice, so if we suck, it's their fault. I myself is a clarinet, but our clarinet section consists of three. I'm first chair, and the other two I think are just in it for the socializing. They don't realize how important this is for the rest of the band. We are also playing Majestia and Londonderry Air. Good luck on your music, guys!!!!!!!

  • As far as I can see, the trumpet players are not playing with their bells above their stands, and I suggest that they do so, as a trumpet player myself. Also, this song was meant, I believe, to be played faster, which I believe would make it sound a bit better. Other than that, this was performed very well. Good job. :)

  • We're learning this song, IT'S HARD and annoying! My God! Anyway, Nice! Better than us, we've had it for a WHILE. :D

  • Let me just put it this way:

This is a middle school band.

They sound better than my high school band playing this song.

    GOOD JOB!

  • we are playing it with the eighth and 7th graders too, in may, i will post it up in May. we are playing it in may

  • we are playing this in HBMS, in 6th grade

    I am not kidding!!

  • we are playing this in HBMS, in 6th grade

    I am not kidding!!

  • i played this song for our high school concert band festivle last year and it is not an easy song. for 8th graders you guys did really good :) good job

  • what instrument do you play?....i played this song to on alto sax and it wasn't that hard

  • i played this song for our high school concert band festivle last year and it is not an easy song. for 8th graders you guys did really good :) good job

  • I'm playing clarinet on this peice in our Honor band, and its really helpful to hear it and know what it sounds like before the whole band gets together. and the comments help to know whats hard and will need more work than onther parts. thanks!

  • dude.. they played the song too slow

i play trumpet at my school we play this song like 2x faster btw i can hear wrong notes and yea trumpets try to hit high notes better, thirds and seconds try to come out more, solo french horn try to play louder on your solo, i could go on but you would get discouraged

  • ahah your trumpets were really struggling with those high notes!

    it was pretty good tho.

  • Dude yes !!! We r sooo playing this song for band @ my school for like an Acedemic Meet or something i'm playing Crash....so kudos to the Crash person and awsome job percussion !!!

  • OH YESSS!!!!! hahh, this was when i was an 8th grader, now i'm a 10th grader, and i was playing SNARE!!!

    drums ROCK!!!!

  • ur playing too slow.. the tempos up about 5 clicks and the band was a bit off, but for a middle school band it's ok

  • that's pretty amazing for a middle school band im in college and we sight read this song the other day and you guys played just about as good as we did i, keep up the great work

  • This was kinda slow but overall good. The trumpets were off a bit but still, nice job.

We're playing this in our 7th/8th grade wind ensemble and I really like it.

  • Very correct stlye wise but it was very slow, and kind of dragged out

  • yea i agree wit u i play this a little faster than how they are playing it

  • we played this :) i love this piece :) its an amazing piece , i love the french horn part :)and tuba , i love all the parts :)

  • cool but i didnt know conductors could dance.

  • hey our band is playing this...the clarinets finally have some kind of important part! yay!

  • Oh...Do you still want my ds?
