My great great etc grandfather was in the real 8th illinois calvary. His name was lyman B. King. He was in F company. Before he was in the 8th cav. he was in the 55th illinois infantry and recived a concussion when a cannon ball passed close to his head at the battle of shiloh. He was discharged and after healing reenlisted in the 8th Illinois cav. If you want to email me its joey_williams_64067@yahoo.com

Was the original 8th illinois uniformed with kepis? I was under the impression that they were uniformed by the federal quartermaster corp early in the war. Seems that you guys need some forage caps.

Great video, the Cavalry is often overlooked. I am in Infantry but can say I gave the loudest Rebel yell on the field when I saw our Cavalry..Not just South but the North too. 5*'s and keep up the good work!!!
