Yes. I agree. A real idiot uses only two fingers and push them against windshield having two small holes. If you are wise real idiot, you first measure the distance between your eyes and use the exact measure between your finges.
I think that I would not hammer the windshield or other windows as freezing can make them more fragile.

seriously tho what kind of an idiot only scrapes 1 line of the ice from theyr windshield.....
btw... not that hard to see that the ice is already melting when shes scraping it of.... makesthe job 100 times easier...
