Very nice! I traveled there during a 12th grade field trip to draw lighthouses. We visited Ocracoke, Hatteras, Bodie Island, and Currituck lighthouses. We had to ride a lot of ferries and the land is so flat out there compared to the rolling hills of Mount Airy. Took us forever to get to all the places but it is beautiful out there. :)

Blackbeard rec'd a royal pardon from Gov. Eden. He arrived at Ocracoke with a French ship he said had been wrecked and abandoned. He continued raiding small trading vessels. Va. Governor sent 2 Brittish ships under Lt. Rbt. Maynard. Fighting ensued, Blackbeard and men boarded Maynards ship. Blackbeard took 5 shots, multiple sword stabs, blood gushing from his neck, then he died. Maynard sailed to Bath with Blackbeards head on the bowsprit. Legend - body circled the boat several times.

Ocracoke is awesome! I love the Outer Banks. Although I prefer Hatteras for the attractions. But I never went during the middle of the summer.
