Very nice! I have a very similar sounding '56 Gibson. That AT mic sounds really good on it. I use an SM57 on mine (it's all I have) I like the tone, but it's very "woody" not much sparkle. Will have to check that mic out. Thanks for posting this.
gorgeous...mind if I ask what strings you are using and why you went with a '63? (And whether a new off-the-shelf J-45 Standard might sound...slightly...similar?...is a new 2011 Standard J-45 still decent?) Thanks!
Just beautiful Bernard. I decided to treat myself this Christmas with a new J45 natural finish. I walked into my music room Christmas morning and strummed a few chords, then with a big ole' sh#t-eating grin I dug out my blood pressure machine. I was 12 points lower than I'd been at the doc's the day before, so stop the press's. 'MEDICAL BREAKTHRU J45 lowers old f%rts blood pressure'
Bernard, your Gibsons sound better than any of the new ones I have played; and the fact that you probably play them better than I do also. Great music....thanks
@fuciledacaccia They get much better with age. I got mine in 1964. It sounds like his now, but then it was not as mellow. Buy one and grow old with it.
I like the Vintage Gibson and Martin Acoustics, but both of their latest lack quality and sound. I think Gibson needs to needs to get off their high horses and drop their prices especially when their bottom of the line acoustic is $2000 + and is not play friendly. I try to convince myself to buy one of these brands - but I keep playing Taylors; expensive, but I think they build better instruments than both today's Gibson and Martins. I love the old Gibson and Martins though.
@sc12100 You should try out a 5 series Freshman guitar. I just bought one recently and compared it to Taylor, Martin, Gibson etc all costing over £2000. I ended up with the Freshman! It cost me £900. The finish, feel and sound blew me away! There are few guitars nowadays that will sound as good as a 50 year old quality guitar like the J45 but please try a 5 series Freshman. A whole lot of guitar for the money believe me!
It's really relaxing listening to you playing the guitar... Is a new 2010 Gibson J-45 comparable with your vintage model, or has the quality diminished?
I played a brand new J-45 today.. one things for sure, the older they are, the better they sound. I can tell through my earphones that guitar sounds better than a new one :D
Can I buy it? I exclusively use a '66 J45 and got it in pretty bad shape. This sounds so similar to the one I have but less constricted tone wise. Your playing really helped me relax during a stressful time by the way. Thanks:-)
Very nice, these guitars just seem to realy get better and better in time. New ones sound ok, but the vintage ones just sound better. Thinks it is because the production quality went down, or just the newer pieces didn't have time to mature and "grow"
nothing sounds like a J-45 . the only problem with this guitar is that it is so flimsy. the short scale and thin top gives you lots of dead spots and strange sustain . BUT really once you get over that its probably the sweetest guitar in History
Very nice. I grew up playing my late Dad's J50. There is something about these old Gibson J 45's. Your playing is great too. Great tone and intonation on that old girl!

I see you're using an ATM33 at a distance. That is one beautiful instrument. Harmonics, attack tone - wonderful.

Sounds very sweet. I've got a J45 almost identical. Got from Father who says it's the same model Bob Dylan wrote the Blowing in the wind album.
Question, what kind of preamps are you using or is it just the mic and the audio interface?

Has the bridge been replaced on this Gibby? Did it originally have the adjustable bridge? Sounds great now.
Thanks.
