I lived in the area that would have been the State of Jefferson, and their primary objections which caused them to want to split were that they were being ignored by California/Oregon. Well, when Washington turned on the public works spigot, and started settling returning soldiers on "farms" in those mountain valleys, along with publicly funded roads and water "rights", the objections vanished.
I'm hoping, realisticly, in the next 6 months...I might wait until spring comes around to N.H. I just recently signed up at freestateproject*org but am still new to how to use it, I might need some help.
Dave, have you heard of the State of Jefferson? Interesting stuff.
