@timcoe82 oh ya it was a good time brother. Never seen many different groups come together during a great song. We even had sum G's and metal heads belting the song side by side. Good stuff. And to answer ur question this song will never get old! On repeat all day! Lol
RIP Joe Strummer. Even though it was released in 1979, it made a Rolling Stones list of top albums (I think for the 80s -- someone please check me on this).
I love the Clash. It doesn't matter if they were pop or punk. they wrote some great songs, opened a few minds, an were too far ahead of their time. Just think of how many clash songs you can hum the lyrics to.... you don't see bands like the Clash anymore...
i don't know why this track is celebrated as proof of their versatility. That pop sound makes me want to push a screwdriver into my ear whether its Justin Bieber or the clash.
i am only referring to this particular track, which happened to be one of the few pop sounding tracks the clash attempted; i was not calling all punk music pop... obviously.
@thumpah I don't think they were trying to sound pop, just cause a song gets popular doesn't mean that they were making a stab at popularity... a lot of punk songs sound like this so I don't know why you think it sounds like pop.
@thumpah look if you knew anything about music youd realize than anything in a major scale it will sound somewhat pop and half the songs ever are in the major scale
even the layman can hear that this sounds nothing like their back catalogue and more like garbage that was being churned out on top of the tops back then . Coming from a punk band who maintain that they hold a counterculture ideology, i see this as a hypercritical move not an expression of versatility.
@thumpah fine whatever bare in mind this was not written by the anger rebel driven strummer but by the happier mick jones no knock on him still a great guitar player
@springloadedchicken 'wow, even back then you can see the character and aging in their faces..'
Your point being that every great musician and genius grew young before their time? Musicians have followers, too. They are right brain politicians.
My brother is a musician. He lived in an abandoned warehouse for three years. He did approximately 3 million push ups, when he wasn't attempting to fend off the black dudes trying to mug him. They left him alone after a year.
"So alone I keep the wolves at bay- and there's only one thing I can say- you didn't stand by me, no at all"....But you don't understand my point of view- I suppose there's nothing I can do-oo- you didn't stand by me, no not at all " lol, Hell Yeah, my sentiments EXACTLY !!!!
why does lady gaga's born this way have 61 million views on youtube and the clash has only 100 thousand. what does that tell you about society's taste in music or lack there of?
no im crying because lady gaga and justin bieber has more views then this video. this is the clash man, joe strummer, mick jones, paul, nick. its just blows my mind that bieber gets more attention then bands, even old bands with this amount of talent. its disgusting, repulsive. and retarded.
@scienceatheism i was a 90s kid i didnt know about this growing up, but i got old and wise, discovered the clash and love it now...these dumbass kids will come around...great music is timeless
yeah i doubt it, i started singing The Kinks song Lola around a few people, all the time just randomly and not a single person knew what was i talking about or singing about. Great music is timeless, but fewer and fewer people are going to be listening to it because it isnt new. I mean does any of us listen to songs from the 20's or 30's? imagine that, in the next 30 to 40 years.
@scienceatheism good point...sad but true...but then again you always have the beatles and elvis...they still have plenty of die hard fans despite the fact that most of their music is 50- 60 years old...not that i expect the clash to reach that kind of cult status, but at least a few did...hats off to them!
@scienceatheism President Obama just started a twitter account, and the only 2 people with more followers than the President of the United States are Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. As Andy Parsons pointed out, this is one good example of why the world may very well be doomed.
i sure do love the fact that we americans hold our celeberties to a higher standard then we do our president. Its not like he has peoples lives in his hands. No lady gaga is our saviour.
@scienceatheism Instead of Obama coming up with some medical care reform that we obviously need desperately, I think we should have Lady Gaga design us all shiny new clothes. I know that whenever I'm sick, ridiculously showy clothing makes me feel better. And when I listen to techno beats? Well let's just say my cancer didn't cure itself.
wars? who the fuck cares about stoping that shit, what we need is fashion tips. Economy is for loosers kesha bringing the heat and the beat now that will give me a house and food on my plant.
A bit of trivia - Mick Jones, who co-wrote and sung lead on this song, broke up with the Slits' guitarist Viv Albertine shortly before he wrote this, and it is possible this song is a response to the Slits' song "Typical Girls," which mentioned women standing by their men.
@dontlookbakin2thesun i bet its Osama Bin Ladins new scheme. He doesnt have the money to bomb things anymore so him and his crew just go around voting awesome things down on youtube. Hes such a rebel!! Wow!
