Love this. It does sound like Stories from the City. But for me that's her best album. I like her more commercial guitar driven rock stuff. I found White Chalk almost unlistenable and very boring. I'm glad she's back to guitar.
I love PJ Harveys music to pieces, but I must say that 'let england shake' is so much more intriguing than this. This sounds quite 'stories from the city (...)" to me. The lyrics however (and the vocals) are ace as always. Maybe it will grow on me, but stories was always her least amazing album to me (note: least amazing, not worst).
@Yngelel OH you speak my words! im a huge polly head. i agree stories is nice but it is far far her least magical/artistic album.its at the bottom of pj harvey albums for me i listen to all her records all the time, i might pop stories on once a year big exxit is great though. i do think this song is beautiful though better than stories! pj still has that crazy less produced side in her, perfect example her wonderful work last year with jhon parish & uhhuh her.
@tigerpantss my favorite song from stories was always and will always be 'horses in my dreams'. so eerie. I usually play it before I go to sleep, and I've told my closest family and friends that I want it played at my funeral.
@taniwha9 well she never came to australia or new zealand and a whole other BUNCH of countries. they only toured the united states and europe...............................
@Yngelel i do wish though she would being some of that crazyness back in her solo album but im glad she did it with jhon parish last year so wonderful. i always think u label stories your favourite album you arent a real polly fan.....well in my eyes anyway!
I pretty much dig any performance of Polly's...whether she's playing piano in a white gown or dancing around in a pink catsuit, but nothing beats Polly and a guitar. This is just AMAZING.
She is real my best friend saw her at her local shop doing the food shop in dorset. My friend was too scared to go up to her but she said she was like a goddess in real life. Amazing artist great presence. Really hope for a new album this year. The guitar on this sounds a bit like billy bragg*
@Peterjamesrobin No, it's fair. PJs music has stayed as good or gotten better while Tori's "music" has gone. way. down. Not to mention how tori has become a total caricature of herself. PJ has got class.
Watching this gave me goose bumps, she just keep's getting better and better. It's so beautiful that she's still evolving even at this late point in her career, while most of her peers are washed up and boring or aren't even working anymore. I love you Polly, you always been one of my favorites. Can't wait for the new album!!!
def the best version ive heard ...

Hay que ver como brilla en este vídeo, ella solita con su guitarra y su vestido blanco

I wonder if the musical reference to Jilted John at the end was intentional: "Gordon is a moron."

This and Let England Shake. Anyone else thinking her next album may be England-themed? ;)
Thanks for the uploads, Polar! Great audio!
HurryRavn 2 years ago 7
Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking. Furthermore, she seems to be evoking the spirit of perhaps the 40s? That may just be me though...
mattius44 2 years ago
May also be the sample she used on Let England Shake. The song "Istanbul Not Constantinople" was originally by 50s band the Four Lads :P
HurryRavn 2 years ago
next album is to be War themed :)
can't wait - rare unique talent
she made Camp Bestival for me....
