This show should be called "IM A STUPID FAT LAZY PIECE OF SHIT AND I DONT FEEL LIKE GETTING OFF MY FAT DEGENERATE ASS AND CLEANING UP AFTER MYSELF....
Not even animals shit where they live, if they can help it.
These people should be used to replace monkeys or dogs in medical research...

Co-dependanvy with a drunk can leave many living situations unbearable. Jake is only an example of that. I had rats living with us because of the control issues in the house. And, this was a nice house. Hard to judge these people really.
My parents are hoarders too. They hoard nice stuff though but there's no place in the house for "display" items any more. I don't care if it's designed by some dude named Le Corbusier or Picasso.
Did anyone else that whiny little bitch would have killed himself...(cry...cry)...did I do enough to get disability yet? (cry). Your dad drinks because of the embarrassment you cause him..(cry) STFU!
they should b aloud to start the house on firer with them in it and take care of the problem.people like me shouldnt have to put up with scum.there is a guy in my neighborhood who thinks his driveway is a car repair shop.i dont mind working on a car the odd weekend but to have car pieces in plan site all the time will not b tolerated.the only way to get these dirty people back is to throw the only thing lower then they are and that is horesshit on their yard to give them a comparision t
This episode freaked me out that for a couple of days I was scared of my cats lol. I have two cats and can imagine the nasty smell of this house and not to mention how every thing in that house was ruined. Finding the dead cats was was what scared me the most :-S
When they found the dead cats and kittens in their garage, that was abdolutely horrid. Someone should have cussed them out for that. I feel so bad for those cats. They were smothered to death by garbage and that old hag claims she loves them?! Yeah fucking right!
I would LOVE for some of these guys to be tested for strep bacteria (in bloodwork). PANDAS is an NIH recognized cause of OCD behavior. We've seen that active strep infections can also affect adults.
Do you think the husband was sport killin in his own garage? It would be impossible NOT to notice all the dead cats. They HAD to know about the animals and that is criminal.
While I don't hoard (as in, have the obsession to keep objects), I am extremely cluttered and a huge slob. My personal experience is that it is almost hard to see the garbage, it literally just becomes part of the background and just builds and builds. It's not a denial like "its not that dirty" or "i'll do it later", it honestly doesnt occur to me to remove it. It's not until guests come over that I seem to wake up and honestly see what a mess the place is and how *they* must be seeing it.
@zellychan An interior designer once told me this tip about looking at a room the way other people see it--get a mirror and look at the mirror's reflection of the room. You'll see it in a completely different way, because your mind gets used to seeing it a certain way. When the images reverse in a mirror, you see it in a whole new light. Maybe that will motivate you to keep it clean. Good luck.
This lady is not fit to take care of herself much less the poor animals, if her mental disorder don't let her see the serious danger she puts her cats and family in, then she should be lock up in a place where she can get help, this really disturbed me!
there is no way in hell I would let animals in my house.......this nasty witch had over 200 cats (living and dead) living in her house. And her house reeked of cat waste n they were damaging the house real bad.
This episode really disturbed me, when they were cleaning out the garage and they showed the skulls of the dead cats that died in there.... Just to be living in a house where there are cat corpses... Ugh. This woman needs serious help.
@AttackOFTHEPIE That reminds me of a case I read about involving 2 elderly sisters who hoarded pet rats. From just one couple of rats, they ended up with thousands in their home, and when the people came to clean up the home, they found lots of dead rats inside. I can't understand how someone could live in a house full of dead animals. The smell would be unbearable. Yes, they do need serious help. It's very sad.
i am appaled that this woman never went to jail. i'm sorry she is an older gray hair lady but this is disgusting animal abuse. it makes me so angry and just sick to my stomach. i am pretty sympathetic with most of the hoarders but this case is different.
I remember a woman where I live was doing this with cats and her house had dead cats in the walls. I couldn't imagine the smell, she is not doing anything noble. The last neighbor I had was "into" cats and would have all 4 doors into her house open for them to go in and out of to eat. I went to to work on morning and smelled cat piss around my 2 north side doors-I notified the sheriff and she left a month later...and so did the cats.
there is no excuse 4 this. these people r simply lazy loser slobs. they should be put in jail or kill themselves. this sloppy old fart putting her pets in this mess is ridiculous. what a frickin disgrace. she needs 2 die in her filth.
The old lady seems to have some sort of hero complex. Whenever she talks (brags?) about feeding cats, she seems to hold it up as if she is doing something profoundly noble. Meanwhile at least 9 of the cats they captured had to be put down for respiratory disease. The environment she is providing for was kept so filthy it even made the animals sick. Nor was there much of an attempt to spay/neuter the animals or monitor their health in any way other than setting out dishes of food.
I know a horder and it can be really furterating to talk to them about it. I mean I love them and I consider them family but the clutter at there house is massive, filthy, and sinks. I wanna help them but its hard to.....
@theunderdog102 that's pretty much what a hoarder does.. blocks it out, even knowing what a problem it is.. they can't imagine throwing the stuff out, can't organize it, have no place to put it, and aren't able to get to the surfaces to clean them. I work in a house that's like this and it drives me crazy. I worry about bugs and lice. I put paper down before I sit anywhere.. tho it probably doesn't help.
i'm a 26 year old and i believe i have the same "mental condition" as these people as i can understand their compulsions. however, i have a very clean and uncluttered house. i force myself everyday to make sure i don't become like these people. it's a matter of self discipline and control.
@ghostsintheforum You just proved you dont have the same mental condition as these people, these people dont have self control, that is part of their mental disorder.
that may be true that part of the hoarding disorder means they can't control theirselves.. but they can learn to over time, with therapy and or extraordinary shifts in perspective due to life changing experiences. Finding the reason why someone hoards is key. I used to because I was poor starting out in life. Now that I'm well off and after realizing that if I died my grieving family would have to go thru all my crap, I changed my ways. It's just different for everyone.
It is one thing to hoard and have it clean and organized (those people are called COLLECTORS), but these people are lazy SLOBS. Many people shelter animals but they don't let them live in filth.
@wargasmnz If these people didn't have self-control they wouldn't go on the show and get rid of their sh*t. But they do. Lacking self-control, you'd never allow yourself on this show knowing it's about getting rid of things.
Telling someone, "It's okay, you can't do it, we'll come in and do it for you" is the most counter-productive thing you can ever say, because it frees them from any responsibility for their own lives. Don't be a d*ck. Tell people it's their fault, and THEY need to fix it.
@ghostsintheforum same here. having to move around a lot forced me to face my situation and i ended up getting a good mental jolt that made me realize what I have got to throw out or recycle or give away or sell (if it can be sold quickly, otherwise it gets donated). getting rid of clutter made it so I can keep an immaculate house and I make sure everything that comes in gets processed properly. put away, recycled, papers shredded, only keep really monumentally sentimental papers and things.
My mom hoards. I've tried dumping her stuff out. It doesn't work. It's pretty frustrating, I get pissed off at her a lot. But, it is a mental illness. Gotta de-clutter her mind first, before her room.
i have seen a few episodes. i was shocked at the amount of useless things these ppl have plus the roten garbage. i dont know who anyone can live in these conditions and the cats poor things how could she keep them in that place. i dont think she cares about them at all cuz if she did theres no way shed make them go through that. my mom has been watching the show too and since shes been beter we think shes at level 2 and she doesnt want to get to more extreme levels.
@rougerkid you listen you stupid bitch you the who need your ass beat for not explaining why a person would be like this. like somebody else has explained it to me from a personal stand point. so dont coment back in my box because you dont shit about me.
Racial slur? according to who? Seeing as my melanin is sufficient enough for the word to be used, I think you lack the proper melanin to tell me I can't use it.
That's disgusting. I love this show though. I'd hate to go into those houses... imagine how bad they stink. Dead cats, 10 year old garbage, infested furniture. Nasty.
there is a difference between hoarding and lazyness. I hate how this show will do documentaries on a few people who are in fact just lazy and dont clean up after themselves or care to do so. Jake is a good example of lazyness and not a true hoarder.
I literally got sick and had to throw up. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. These people need serious help, and cannot live alone. They need removal from their homes and put away where people make sure they stay clean until they are rehabilitated.
I saw this last night and it disturbed me so badly watching what happened with the lady and all of those dead cats. I'm cringing now just thinking about it. Those poor cats.
I realize she had a psychological disorder, but it's still just so awful that she couldn't keep track of all those cats to see which ones were living or dead. Pets aren't accessories or toys, they are living beings. Nobody should have so many that they cannot give them each individual attention...so horrible. :(
i know....i saw an episode last night where this woman from around n.o. had 2 dead cats in her house n a skinny lookin live 1....it wuz really sad 2 me cuz i luv cats
....yes,I understand...my Mother,Grandmother,Aunt and sister were horders...all the sympathy goes to the poor little horder...but,often they aren't the ones who have to cart the crap around. When a hoarder moves, the burden is oft times placed on others like sons and grandsons(that would be me)I had a belly full...hooked up a trailer and made 5 runs to the dump so screw your book,I've lived it !!
In MY book you and folks like you are HEROS! Neither Society nor family members even begin to support and praise you adequately for what you go through with these "hoarders"!
Amen man I know how you feel, both my parents are excessive hoarders, I moved out at 17 to never return. Reply, cause I'd love to share stories with you,...this kind of crap pisses me off!
I remember watching this episode the other week. Think if I'm right they found around 40-something dead cats or cat remains in her home and 30-something living cats. o_O
......holding on to useless crap just because it is "near and dear" or "it can be used someday"....shows a lack of intelligence and in some cases retardation! Solution: get hoarder away from the house for a couple of days...have all the crap carted off...when hoarder returns she/he will throw a major tantrum...they'll wail, scream, cuss and threaten but,so what!!...the crap is gone!! Then at the first sign of further hoarding, NIP IT IN THE BUD !!!
You really don't understand how psychological this condition is do you? It is a form of OCD and doing that would most likely shock them and cause an even worse hording problem then before. Read a book and step away from the internet.
this woman had fossils of dead cats in her garage, which was so stifling hot it's a wonder any animal was pulled out of there alive. shoot i th ought i had issues.
these people are not lazy or lobs or w/e the fuck else. they have had something dramatic happen in their life i.g kids growing up going away for college and starting a family husband left or somebody every close to them has passed. hence they collect and hold on to everthing they can because it fills that empty hole inside and objects wont ever leave them unless they throw it away which most dont because they hold everything near and dear.
I always liked Intervention... Hoarders is sometimes shocking, but it doesn't seem to solve the situation as well as Intervention usually does. They'll spend the whole episode cleaning a small part of the house and then give up. Sometimes it works out well, but I just find it to be kind of sad.
This series is very interesting, but I wonder when it shows dead animals and vomit-filled sinks whether it's gone beyond helping people and into the realm of pure voyeurism.
Jake (21 years old) had repeated panic attacks and should not have been subjected to being on camera, and there's no way that woman was allowed to KEEP cats again, and do NO jail time, after allowing 70+ dead and living cats in her home.
This may be a show I have to "let go of" as if it was a piece of clutter..
Hoarders! This is just nasty. Keeping trash for 50 friggin years. Why in the hell would you want to live like that. Living in pure filth. OMG! I feel ill just seeing that.
Clean your damn place and make it so you can actually live in it.
Okay thats enough for me when dead animals are shown on TV I refuse to watch it anymore and get very upset that the person that was SUPPOSE to take care of them...I dont like that shit at all...You have children and animals you NEED to take care of them no matter what illness you have...if family members see that your not taking care of them then they need to do something about it right off not wait...I am done with this show!!
I went to an auction today of one of these pack rats...unbelievable 60 year farm accumulation. Biggest sale I've ever been to! Some of it was pretty dirty but most of it brought amazing money. Magazines, junk mail, tools, toys, food cans collectibles....Thousands & thousands of dollars, better than a 401K.
Hoarding is not just being messy or being lazy. It's a mental illness related to obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is neither funny nor entertaining. Many of the commentators have no idea what it's like to live with this disease--I do. I know it's a struggle every day to overcome the need to place emotional ties on things that other people recognise as worthless. It's incredibly isolating as well. Fortunately medicine and therapy can help, but the disease is very hard to treat.
Isn't OCD the opposite? Like when you obsess over little things, and everything has to be perfect? I have a slight case of OCD, nothing severe, but certain things just bother me if they're not clean or perfectly aligned, and trash is kind of the opposite of what I see as ideal.
while its a real issue, and people with this problem need to know theyre not alone, this show seems little more than a 'look at them!' shock show that leaves the victims of this problem a focus of derision and embarassment. poor taste, A&E.
Hoarding - part of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - sometimes associated with addiction - it's a BRAIN CHEMISTRY ISSUE!
This should not be exploited as entertainment. But who cares. We put all our mental patients and candidates for rehab on Jerry Springer and Maury Povich. People who are delusional get on American Idol. It's the reality programming niche. Make fun of the mentally ill.
I'm at a loss as to why A & E would distribute a show about pack rats. Seems like it's an excuse for the viewer to look down upon someone's mental illness. Hopefully you'll watch a good reality show like "A Week With My Father" dot com and we'll change all that...ok, that was a plug. Sorry :)
This just goes to show how pathetic this nation is. They wouldn't be worrying about all the junk in their house if they were starving, or could barely make enough money for food. Everyone in this country is so used to life being so easy, they over complicate things and just make themselves weaker. I don't know how anyone can actually think these people have problems, or pity these people.
"20-25" animals. She doesn't even know the exact number of animals, how does she know she is feeding and taking care of them all? Also, wow I thought I was a slob. Not trying to be harsh, but does anyone know how that happens? Is there something wrong with those people or are they just lazy?
These people have the opposite of my OCD. Just watching this makes me anxious. I clean like a fucking crazy person. (oh, wait, i am a fucking crazy person.) If I went in their I would go Ape Shit.
Luckily you guys show replays cause I'm not going to miss wrestling for this. But damn the replay is on 2 AM Tuesday morning, is my first day of school tomorrow, oh wait I can't recorded it.
I don't see why they don't make shows exposing the so-called "people" who Hoard Mass Amounts of Wealth that they accumulate from hard working people...
They strong mental compulsion not to. You understand that not all brains are the same. For them, throwing the stuff out is about as easy psychologically as someone telling you "hey, just run down the street bareassed with lit sparklers shoved up your rectum".
I don't get how hoarders got their own show. I mean how many different episodes of these can they make? I feel bad for them but to have a spin off of a spin off really wasn't necessary.
Why? Don't people understand that cats and dogs aren't as fastidious as humans? Just because YOU find a dirty carpet and torn up mattresses distasteful to live in doesn't mean the cats give a shit. I mean the old woman lives in the filth herself. If she can handle it, the fuckin cats can handle it. I swear, one day people are going to have animal control come and take cats away from people who don't put clothes on their pets; "oh the horror! the poor cat must've been so embarrassed to be naked!"
that last point made no sense. like that's ever going to happen.
no SHIT cats and dogs can live under those conditions. but why should they? they deserve better. they're probably filthy and have fleas. atleast the old woman feeds them, though.
The point was that people are slowly anthropomorphizing animals more and more and assuming that they want the same things people do. My point was, the "filthy" living conditions probably weren't that bad from an objective point of view, it's just disgusting to our tastes. Obviously the conditions aren't that bad, because the old fucking woman lives in them.

Chloey23 1 year ago
My mom hoards. I've tried dumping her stuff out. It doesn't work. It's pretty frustrating, I get pissed off at her a lot. But, it is a mental illness. Gotta de-clutter her mind first, before her room.
Iolamusica 2 years ago 45
i have seen a few episodes. i was shocked at the amount of useless things these ppl have plus the roten garbage. i dont know who anyone can live in these conditions and the cats poor things how could she keep them in that place. i dont think she cares about them at all cuz if she did theres no way shed make them go through that. my mom has been watching the show too and since shes been beter we think shes at level 2 and she doesnt want to get to more extreme levels.

Um...actually "padussia," hoarding is a mental disease. You should have your ass beaten for not understanding that.
rougerkid 2 years ago
@rougerkid you listen you stupid bitch you the who need your ass beat for not explaining why a person would be like this. like somebody else has explained it to me from a personal stand point. so dont coment back in my box because you dont shit about me.

You obviously know nothing at all about anything. And by the way, that's a racial slur you shouldn't be using.

Nasty.

I saw that episode, and when they cleaned out the garage there was about 20 dead cats that they found and the other cats ate them too.
I was like eww!

there is a difference between hoarding and lazyness. I hate how this show will do documentaries on a few people who are in fact just lazy and dont clean up after themselves or care to do so. Jake is a good example of lazyness and not a true hoarder.

......holding on to useless crap just because it is "near and dear" or "it can be used someday"....shows a lack of intelligence and in some cases retardation! Solution: get hoarder away from the house for a couple of days...have all the crap carted off...when hoarder returns she/he will throw a major tantrum...they'll wail, scream, cuss and threaten but,so what!!...the crap is gone!! Then at the first sign of further hoarding, NIP IT IN THE BUD !!!
shackashackado 2 years ago
You really don't understand how psychological this condition is do you? It is a form of OCD and doing that would most likely shock them and cause an even worse hording problem then before. Read a book and step away from the internet.
Witzk01U 2 years ago 2
Bollocks!
I'm an OCD sufferer, who also worked in the field of mental health for almost 30 years. I can't begin to tell you how WRONG you are. Recent clinical
statistics point overwhelmingly to the OPPOSITE of what you claim:
sufferers of OCD CANNOT TOLERATE
even minor disarray and thilth, much
less on the horrendous scale that most hoarders do. Initially, SOME studies
pointed to the possibility of OCD here.
Nowadays however, most experts agree
this isn't so.

these people are not lazy or lobs or w/e the fuck else. they have had something dramatic happen in their life i.g kids growing up going away for college and starting a family husband left or somebody every close to them has passed. hence they collect and hold on to everthing they can because it fills that empty hole inside and objects wont ever leave them unless they throw it away which most dont because they hold everything near and dear.

I always liked Intervention... Hoarders is sometimes shocking, but it doesn't seem to solve the situation as well as Intervention usually does. They'll spend the whole episode cleaning a small part of the house and then give up. Sometimes it works out well, but I just find it to be kind of sad.

Jibbie49 2 years ago
This series is very interesting, but I wonder when it shows dead animals and vomit-filled sinks whether it's gone beyond helping people and into the realm of pure voyeurism.
Jake (21 years old) had repeated panic attacks and should not have been subjected to being on camera, and there's no way that woman was allowed to KEEP cats again, and do NO jail time, after allowing 70+ dead and living cats in her home.
This may be a show I have to "let go of" as if it was a piece of clutter..

999Atwood 2 years ago
Hoarding is not just being messy or being lazy. It's a mental illness related to obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is neither funny nor entertaining. Many of the commentators have no idea what it's like to live with this disease--I do. I know it's a struggle every day to overcome the need to place emotional ties on things that other people recognise as worthless. It's incredibly isolating as well. Fortunately medicine and therapy can help, but the disease is very hard to treat.
eilirion 2 years ago 2
Isn't OCD the opposite? Like when you obsess over little things, and everything has to be perfect? I have a slight case of OCD, nothing severe, but certain things just bother me if they're not clean or perfectly aligned, and trash is kind of the opposite of what I see as ideal.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
if u had ocd, it wouldnt be slight, thats why the word "obsessive" is in it.

I don't know how anyone can actually think these people have problems, or pity these people.

rayzinbr4n 2 years ago
I swear, one day people are going to have animal control come and take cats away from people who don't put clothes on their pets; "oh the horror! the poor cat must've been so embarrassed to be naked!"
thomasford 2 years ago
that last point made no sense. like that's ever going to happen.
no SHIT cats and dogs can live under those conditions. but why should they? they deserve better. they're probably filthy and have fleas. atleast the old woman feeds them, though.
rayzinbr4n 2 years ago
The point was that people are slowly anthropomorphizing animals more and more and assuming that they want the same things people do. My point was, the "filthy" living conditions probably weren't that bad from an objective point of view, it's just disgusting to our tastes. Obviously the conditions aren't that bad, because the old fucking woman lives in them.
thomasford 2 years ago
i don't care what you're talking about.
those cats deserve a better home.
