Why a united nation, it was never one nation country. Pakistan was a country of many nations under one religious umbrella. That was wrong from the beginning. Look at the Arabian countries. They have the same language, culture religion but still many countries. East Pakistan was not physically or culturally attached. Majority of the people were Muslim that's all, if the religion should have been the only foundation of a country than the world should not have more than 4-6 countries
As for the 'not being able to understand Urdu or English' printed on the currency, than it was past time for the politicians to fund education for the masses whether they be Bengali, Punjabi, Sindhi, Baluchi or Pathan. Each of those ethnic groups have their own language-- but to be united as one country, there needs to be one currency.

India and the Indian-collaborators of East Pakistan wouldn't have had the ample opportunity to instigate a civil war had it not been for the Pakistani administration's lack of finesse, flexibility and fairness.
But at the same time, Bengalis were a huge asset to Pakistan and had they remained a part of it, the united nation would have been far better off than they are now as separate countries.
As a Pakistani, I believe that the Bengalis deserve to have their own country. It was inevitable in the long run die to geographic factors. There are great differences in culture and race but it would have been better to have come to a peaceful separation.
