  • I'd like another Silpheed and GunGriffon.

  • I kind of want to be the opposite and say no, because Working Designs had a great run of games and I enjoy so many of them. When they were around they made near perfect games. I would hate to see them come back with half a staff of new people developing games and ruin WD's good name. Not saying that new people working for them would be bad I just wouldnt want the worst case scenario to happen.

  • Hey thanks for letting people know about SC3 robert. Me and Syphic are gonna be rolling over there and yea GameGavel is gonna be there too. I'll have to make a video here later tonight letting people know as well in case they wanna meet up and live in SoCal.

As for the topic man, i would absolutely love Working Designs to come back but would it be the same is the question. I'd be all 4 it if it was the same team delivering the same great collector's eds. like they used to at no additional cost

  • Working Designs was a pioneer for great RPG conversions. I believe they set a standard when games were ported to these shores. I think others follow suite to how they made their special sets. Their changes in the games made them a more smoother in transistion to US gamers. If you look at the beginning song of Lunar Complete compared to the PSP version, you can see how they made it better than just a direct translation of words. Really great games would have never be out here without them.

  • I never got into Working Designs' RPGs, except for perhaps Lunar: Silver Star Story. While I lived overseas and have a pretty solid ability to speak and understand Japanese, I still prefer RPGs in English. Japanese will forever be a second language to me, and will never have the unique impact that my native language has. And besides, RPGs have such complicated stories that I find myself having to translate words from time to time, which breaks the "mood."

  • If working designs did come back, I would rather see them take many rpg's from the snes to the ps1 era, get them translated and then put them on the psn. I think right now, we have enough developers that cater to the anime style games and the limited editions that come with them. I think if working designs wanted to stay in fight for a long time, they should really go back to their roots and give north america gamers the chance to play rpg's online that never had a north american release.

  • Working Designs would be yet more games that could be published and brought over to the states. I wasn't too crazy with the voices XSeeD had for the Lunar game and while change is always inevitable nothing can beat the work Victor Ireland and his crew did for the translation, voice talent, extras and packaging they had for their games.

  • @imjustsaying85 Thanks, i appreciate it.

  • I'm in a unique situation because I like a bunch of those working designs game but at this point it doesn't really matter to me if they or a company like them shows up. Since I'm pretty much fluent in Japanese, the hype I feel for games getting translated is significantly dimmed now compared to when I couldn't speak Japanese. Now, if a game doesn't get translated, I just head to the store and buy it anyway, and some series I actually prefer in Japanese over English (I'm looking at you Persona).

  • @xcornmuffinx Yeah i can understand your opinion, the real reason most people want games released here is cause they understand english and not japanese. If that wasn't a problem it wouldn't matter where you got it from you could play it.

  • @troubl8385 I definitely understand that. When I lived in the US I was always pining for a bunch of games that never got an English translation. Now that I speak and read Japanese I tend to play Japanese games in Japanese even if there is an English translation. It's always good when people get to play good games though so I'm glad when niche games to get translations though, if only for the ability to talk to people about the game.

  • I would love working designs to come back. They made some of the best rpg's ever.

  • @lvpepe38 Yeah they did bring out some of the great rpg's during there time. You can't have enough companies bringing out good rpg's these days.

  • @troubl8385 That's for sure. Have a great night.

  • I could careless about working deigns or any games they came out with, and could careless about them coming back.

  • @henryblazer20 that cool, not everyone cares or liked there games. I understand that opinion.

  • Very nice video man, thanks for putting me in that was awesome. Yeah I have never really played a working designs game but I really do want to get into some retro stuff in the near future.

  • @MeetingFlipper Thanks, working designs especially there rpg collections boxes had alot of great extras in them. Plus they were good rpg's too.

  • which leads to store closures and us being forced into a online content only model.

  • @electricadventures I don't think we will ever see a online only model for games, but you will eventually see games they think won't sell well at retail be put digital for a higher possible return.

  • This sort of thing i.e. actually giving you something to buy is actually what the companies need to do if they want to sell hard copies instead of just move to all online (Steam, PSN, XBox etc). There have been several valid discussions lately around some game developers giving the maps, sound track and other gimicks in a nice box, for the very reason of giving the stores something to sell. Otherwise all I can see is a non-ending price reduction at the retail level, which leads to no profits,

  • @electricadventures Yeah i do agree you have to give people a reason to order you game in the store. Especially this seems important to RPG's where fans except that extra mile.

  • it seems like Xseed, Atlus, and NIS america are the new working designs to me. This is why im an avid collector of xseed, nis, and atlus games. They care about their fans and go the extra mile for the fans. These companies rely on the ideals of what working designs use to represent. Sadly I think working designs is in the past even thou I would welcome them back if they ever came back.

  • @NostalgicDan1 That is true those three companies have done what working designs use to do. I enjoy all there games, though i do think it is unlikely gaijinworks will ever reach working designs following.

  • Yea they already have, its called Xseed.

  • @GamezOfWar Yeah but most of there games are coming out for the PSP mainly right now. Though i do love the RPG's they bring over here.

  • I think WD is back in a way with companies like Xseed and NIS America. But I do really miss WD Iron Storm was one of my favorite Saturn games!

  • @marauderNOR Yeah you really can't have too many of these companies bring out good games.
