  • i have a question. I want to become aware of my chi. Is 15 mins of practicing sitting on chair and focus on breathing and meditating going to help me become aware of chi or will i see better results by practiting the art of qigong?

  • @MessageInBlood1 Anything you do will help. Sitting is great. It is a form of Chi Kung. If you can find another Chi Kung exercise you like to practice, do that. The more you enjoy it, the more benefit you will derive. Good luck.

  • Great lesson series!

  • why only 8?

  • @gatheringwithin That is a good question. You would have to ask the Masters of old for a true answer, but I can guess. I think it has to do with the Chinese mind that views the number 8 as extremely important. There are 8 elements, 8 sides to the Ba Gua, and of course, eight energies to Tai Chi Chuan. The I Ching uses 8 as the basic building blocks to its deep philosophy. Maybe this is the answer, maybe not. Good luck. Michael Gilman

  • @mdgilman I think it is well settled that the Ba Gua are the source of the number of energies. So basically it boils down to the fact that 2 to the power of 3 is 8. If you iterate all of the possibilities of a three element trigram there are 8.

  • Good lord! I am learning in Reverse! Learn San Shou to discover my lack of push hand skills. Learn the long form to discover how far away I am from these Chi Kung eight energies. Learn to work to encrease my flexibility range, play with kettlebells to gain some strength and aerobic duration. Practice, practice practice! One day, I might even REALLY learn dis stuff!

  • Hi, Excellent video. I have a question about the hips, sinking and coming forward.

Meaning it is my understanding that the hips do not rise and fall. As in they remain level and do not rise and fall vertically. All sinking and rising is happening internally as tendons etc relax and contract. Just as the body moves towards and away from the hands, as it where, rather that being brought in and out on their own

In the same way the shoulders would also hover through space at the same constant hight

  • Hi, Thanks for your excellent explanation. Just, why is tai chi-chi kung done so slowly? I think I'm too impatient for it. Blessings

  • I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are commenting on.

  • I was putting that comment there to be able to "rewind" to the right spot when I'm practicing. :)

  • wow i have been wanting to learn tai chi and how to use chi kung thank you and i will keep watching

  • hey micheal... was just wonderin this tai chi help relax the mind, would it help ppl with mentle health?? if it does i think that would be a good program to build to help ppl

  • Difficulty with sleep mostly happens because the mind is too active. I would suggest emptying your mind before you go to bed. Just sit in a comfortable position, relax, and follow your breath. Or do Tai Chi. Try not to think too much. Just relax and breathe. Let me know how you do.

  • Hi Michael , Do you know of any good exercises to help you sleep?

  • thanks
