I've been scared shitless of heights after an accident when i was like 8yo. I tried overcoming my fear with climbing and rappelling down a 330ft cliff, i did it, but i'm still have the same fear of heights, i get this swift feeling in my head of me falling and then i'm lost. Got sweaty palms just thinking about it..
When i'm in a football stadium (great having a phobia intervereing with ure friggin work duties) I'll sit on the lowest level and looking up is enough to make me feel fearful but I think its more to do with balance. I have a fear of the noise so it effects my balance and co-ordination. The crowd probably doesn't help either.
Yeah you have a fear of losing your balance and falling. Your fear is falling and hurting yourself, or in the case of extreme heights, falling and actually dieing. This would explain why you are fine in a plane. Any true person with a height phobia would never get in a plane.

i was originally scared of the giant swing @ camp. i basicly just climbed up to the heighest point in my school ( a set of about 3 story heigh stairs ) and lent over the edge, and no matter how hard i wanterd to stop id keep going. i went to the camp next time and i got to the top ( well we were a lot older, so i was lifted up to fast for me to say STOP! )
Yep...I always thought I was afraid of heights...but I can fly....no problem. I can parasail no problem....but standing on the edge of a building and looking over...or on a trail down the side of a canyon...I get wigged out.
You are afraid of falling/losing your balance and plummeting to your death. Having a fear like that is natural, but it has nothing to do with fear of heights.
@imagineart omg SAMEE!!! its wierd cuz i love flying and want to be a pilot but i get tripped out climbimng my roof and looking over the edge, im scared im going to lose balance :S
YES! i feel like htat 2! im afraid of hights because i feel as if im gonna fall and die and i don't want that 2 happen! but if i would be forced to do THIS i'd rather DIE
I can stand on the lower level of a football stadium and not even be able to look up because of the height . I find it difficult going down an escalator and a staircase but I can fly in a plane.
@drsheikhjunior i think that you are right, i am scare of falling but you can see me on a rollercoaster that goes really high and i would love it. If you know you are safe you will do it and i am scare of height even the london eye, i wouldn't go on it because i heard the pod's floor was made of glass, i think to overcome it you have to skydive which is falling to earth with a parachute and i would dream of doing that at all.
that isnt a big fall.. i am kinda afraid of hieghts.. its weird becuase i am only afraid if i am over 100 feet off the ground on the edge of somthing.like a cliff...but liek that wall rite there... not really big...

Yeah, so many people I talk to say they are afraid of heights. But when I ask them if they have ever been on a plane before they answer yes lol.
