the so called new t-90 tank is in fact just an upgaraded t-72 . it was origially going to be name t-72bm . its basically a t-72b with the upgrades from the t-80 which was the high end soviet tank . the main upgrade is in the new types of armour packages available such as kontakt-5, kaktus etc. plus new thermal sights and defences such as shtora and arena as options.

-crew training, iraqis had less to none.

-tanks coalition had m1a1 as its main vehicle, iraqis had t-54,t-55,type-69 and asab babil(local t-72 mock up)

-ammunition, abrams had du rounds, iraqi tanks had soviet sabots from 70:s.

-communication coalition had good radio connections, iraqis had little or none.

-intelligence, coalition knew where iraqi tanks were. iraqis had no clue. and coalition air-strikes destroyed most of iraqi vehicles before abrams.

@SuperFinnish ive been wondering for a while about t-90's armor. ive heard it is four layers. is it just steel or something classified? because if its just steel i have no doubt that a du round would pierce it, and our sabot rod goes 25 times the speed of sound.

keep in mind to that i would have our countries be allies if it were up to me. really, the only country i hate are iran and china

@MegaHungrybear t-90 has layered armour which is propably classified, even t-72s have layer composite armour with the exception of iraqi asad babil and the original t-72 which isnt used anymore.

T-90 is comprised of high-hardness steel, thick composite armour akin to that of Leopard-2, and Kontakt-5 ERA. APDSFS round would not penitrate that.
