Kids Talk Radio USA: Can you share any photos of the finished boat? Suprschool@aol.com. We would love to interview a boatbuilder for the Cabo Verde Tenth Island Project. Great job. You are an inspiration to young kids around the world. Plus, you choose the right jazz for the project. This helps to keep jazz alive in the schools.
Generally, only two diagonal layers of 1/8inch laminates are needed. Although for this project we had up to 8 layers in the highest stressed areas.
Laminating over strip planks adds a significant amount of strength and is very light weight. So you can use a thinner planking and save on weight with even more strength then you would have with normal planking
Is this a boat shop or your on home built with friends help type project? How many layers are there on the planking? I saw many different layers with different directions, guessing for strenth. Guessing since I dont build boats, allways wanted to but never did yet anyway. Real cool video, hope to see the next in june.
its being built in a shop by professionals. There is only one layer of planking, the other layers you see are thin layers of Fir veneers to, as you guessed, give it strength. There are up to 8 layers of these veneers depending on the stress areas of the hull.
My videos are more STUPID than yours! That's what makes boatbuilding unique...who in their right mind would go out in the deep in a wooden boat they made themselves anyway?
this is fucking sick, i wanna build one

How many laminate layers are needed? What is the advantage versus the traditional strip planking?

What is the thikness of an individual fir veneer? What was the average total skin thickness? Thank you!
juicerdk 2 years ago
the fir veneers are 1/8 inch thick from 4 layers up to 8 layers where the ballast is attached and at the stem.

Wow nice video and excellent craftsmanship. Thanks for showing. Is there going to be a normal speed video available?
