  • We got Jack Black (GearManDude) and now we have Tony Stark reviewing pedals too. AWESOME!!

  • Guys I need a suggestion: I'm buying a distortion pedal... Xotic BB Plus or ZVex Box of Rock?

  • i've heard many concerns from people about the box of rock being really hard on tube amps, much like the super hard on. Confirm or deny? Secondly, damn this thing sounds good.

  • Is this godd for AC/DC, or do some of you know a better pedal for that kind of music?

  • @Runelaier i think this is great for AC/DC, because there sound comes from a dimmed marshall stacks, which is what this pedal does.

  • how come no crackle when adjusting the drive and boost knob?

  • Ok, looks like a bunch of you are missing the point. A JTM45 CRANKED sounds great, but it is very loud, this pedal is meant to get the very loud tone, but at any volume. It does do this very well. So to say "It sounds like a Marshall because he's playing thru a MArshall" isn't "getting" it. To better understand it, then think of it as "It is supposed to sound like a CRANKED Marshall, but at less than cranked volumes."

  • Would this pedal also sound well through a solid state amp?

  • @corni920 nope

  • @corni920 Thats for your ears to decide. you will get a difference in tone from amp to amp, but im sure you can make it work.

  • what about a laney with 4Ax7s and 4 EL84s?? u seem to be knowlegeable lol, i want this tone

  • Whats "eddie" at 1:38?

  • Hot for teacha!

  • Thanks!

  • hot for teacher - van halen

  • Eddie Van Halen

  • From an owner of a SLP Clone,JTM45 clone, Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and Orange Tiny Terror, this pedal is great for any of those amps. I used to have a Fender Bassman 70 and this pedal kicked butt with the 6L6's. Dont sell this one short, nor pass it by....Its a great box!

  • Yeah with Fender Tube Amps this sounds like a regular overdrive. My Rat give more distortion then this. Love the tone though

  • What would it sound like when you have it put directly into the mixer and then pa, so that one would save the havey stack, any idea?

I love tube amps and 4x12 but its always way too heavy and takes a bit a space , thats why I'm asking. since for little gigs this tiny box could work as a stand alone, or not?

  • brilliant pedal. i own one. i play out of a vox ac30 and it sounds great with ever guitar i own.....fender tele, gibson les paul special with p90s, gretsch 5120 hollow body, and a strat. it does exactly what you want it to do at any time....brilliant pedal.

  • I WANT NOW!!

  • i dont doubt that this is a good pedal but this isnt a very well controlled test because hes playing the thing thru a marshall, of course its going to sound like a marshall

  • sounds exactly like robert downey jr haha

  • hahaha

  • livin after midnight by judas priest

  • amazing - im a new Zvexx fan. and I want one of each please

  • Great pedal. Very natural and the boost is a great plus.

  • I play this thing through my Fender Vibroverb, and have to say, it is absolutely amazing. And it really gives you a Marshall vibe, even through the Fender.

Best distortion pedal I've played so far!

  • That Zachary Vex is a real character.

  • ZVex makes awesome effects, and these demos are always great, but c'mon guys.

If you play it into a JTM, of course it's going to sound like a JTM! lol

  • True, to a certain extent. A tube screamer running through the same amp wouldn't sound the same, and I think that's the point of the demo. I agree with your logic though.

  • i got mine today ... and it has much too bass for live situations!!! how do you solve the problem when you play live through a PA !?!?

  • how are you going into the PA?

  • well, i didn't explain my problem clearly ... so I go into my amp and then into the PA (SM 57). When turned on, the pedal gives me too much bass. If i turn back the bass on the amp, the clean sounds (wen BOR is turned off) will not have enough bass.

  • Box of Rock vs. OCD

Granted, Mr. Fuller probably doesn't do rooftop cat rescues

  • ROOFTOP CAT RESCUE!!! LOL

that distortion kicks major ass....i do however like the fuzz factory more...but still...

  • yeah the fuzz factory is for experimental sounds, this is probably his most traditional pedal.

  • a tube screamer through a clean Marshall won't soudn like a Marshall. This does. So does it sound like a marshall ? yes !

it'll obviously will have that Marshally tone through any amp with warm middy cleans.

think before you post something ;)

  • Just got mine.... Zach is a GOD!!!!

  • Dear Mr Zvex,

Please do the same demo but with a non Marshall amp (preferably Fender)

    :)

  • question is now..would this also get me a jtm-45 sound on an ac30?

    cause that would be cool...

  • Sweet, I just bought one!

  • Awesome :)

  • he thought the other video (not his one) sounded BAD.... but the settings that he uses here suck.. bah,,

  • Now THAT'S how a video pedal presentation should be made. A lesson to us all wannabe You Tube pedal reviewers.

And as far as the pedals-amps issue is concerned, something must be right about their use on expensive valve amps, judging from their 50 year history in modern music...

  • This pedal is great. What the comments below are missing is that it gets this sound when the Marshall amp is on 3, not 10. Also, this sounds great on other non-Marshall amps too. And oh yeah, tons of great artists over the last several decades have used all sorts of pedals. If you don't like pedals, OK, but most well known rock groups today use several of them.

  • 'Might be good for low-volume recording in a studio. It's also too small. The switches are too close to the knobs, so the position of the knobs can be accidentally bumped with your foot. The box needs to be longer...

  • But if you have a really good-sounding amp in the first place, you don't need a "pedal". It's just a band-aid for an amp that isn't cutting the mustard for tone...

  • don't be ridiculous. A good amp is the key to good tone, but there are tons of flavors that amps just don't cover. Why do you think guys like Hendrix, Gilmour, Eric Johnson, and SRV all used pedals to help them get their tone.
