I was in the UNC Honor Guard in Yongsan, 1980. The ROK Marines and ROK Army NCOs were insane about discipline and could openly strike their soldiers. Guardsmen were typically punished by lining them up and beating the backs of their legs until black with baseball bats, believe it or not. The US Commanders allowed this to go unchallenged even though it was brought to their attention. I wonder if this still goes on today in ROK military.
@7tnorris Even though conditions are still tough, I am pretty sure that soldiers are not beaten anymore... while my father told me stories about that kind of punishments, my friends who left to the army confirmed that there are no beatings anymore.
