  • Dawkins beat Stein up and took his lunch money.

  • Wow, so far 11 baby-delivering storks have YouTube accounts...

  • I am not a creationist. I believe ID should be given a chance. For anyone in the scientific community to say what you can and cannot believe is where I have a real problem. You say that about religion but it is right outside your scientific bubble to believe anything other than what is in the textbooks.

  • @iabdiswhyilive What ID course should we teach then? There are over 38,000 different domination's of Christianity all saying that they are the only correct way. What side do we teach? Then what about Islam,Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, etc. All with their different domination's. What side will we teach? If we side with one religion we constitutionally have to side with every religion that has ever existed. Or we can just teach that which has evidence to back it up, such as evolution.

  • @iabdiswhyilive The problem is that ID doesn't conform with scientific process and hence can't be worked on scientifically (the current ID theory cannot be scientific). Teaching it is one thing, but to teach it in a science class would kinda be like teaching pottery in english class. :)

  • @iabdiswhyilive ID proponents only misrepresent evolution, make it look silly, and then discredit the silly caricature. They have no legitimate arguments against evolutionary theory. The also have no testable hypothesis for what ID is supposed to be. It's mainly a negative argument; 'evolution isn't true, therefore we win.' But they have no actual theory other than 'evolution isn't true', so there's no theory to replace evolution. ID is intended for the lay public, not the scientific community.

  • Ben Stein is a moron who makes him self look intelligent but is really a dolt.

  • @adlerbr12 Ben Stein talks with a monotone slur with no substantiation to back up any of his moronic assertions for his cause. Just tear away the pseudo intellectual facade and all that Stein is saying is that the Christian God exists and that the Christian God created everything and to question it is blasphemy. Richard Dawkins is saying that you must use critical thinking and reason and if you teach God when explaining science, you are oppressing progress, because God has no place in science.

  • It's always going to be an uphill battle trying to open the mind of a religious person. They have been brainwashed since they were a baby. It is very hard to compete with that. If a mind were given the chance then rationalism would take over and the answer becomes clear. But otherwise the debate is vacuous. On one hand you are banging your head against a brick wall, debating a Christian is pointless. On the other you are preaching to the converted (pardon the phrase), like Richard does here.

  • LOOOL :)

  • @iabdiswhyilive you mean like how religion uses circular logic to try and prove the existence of god?

  • i may give evolution a chance if i get a true statement about it without the scientists using circular reasoning over and over again.

  • @iabdiswhyilive

I think you should move in to the 21 century , and get your head out of your retarded ass.

  • More Wikipedia on 'Church and State':

James Madison, principal drafter of the U.S. Bill of Rights, declared, "...practical distinction between Religion and Civil Government is essential to the purity of both, and as guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States..."

"...all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinion in matters of religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish enlarge, or affect their civil capacities." Madison & Jefferson

  • Wikipedia on 'Separation of Church and State' as follows:

"...I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State." (Thomas Jefferson speaking in 1802 to Baptists concerning the first Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.) In 2009, we attempt to fail our own democracy.

  • This way of arguing one´s case reminds me of a church where I grew up. The people who are listening knows what they want, and the preacher (in this case Mr Dawkins) gives them what they want. I can´t imagine there is one single brain in the crowd who dear think differently. Ridicule, humor, half-truths, appeal to pride. Yes, religion can be dangerous.

  • @Bobathefish There is probably no one thinking differently because what he is saying is so obvious. But I like to point out that people listening to Dr. Dawkins don't want to know what to think but rather want facts and tools to have a more and better way of thinking. This is a huge difference from a preacher pretending reveling the truth based on myths and subjective interpretations.

  • @tubetib

"... people listening to Dr. Dawkins don't want to know what to think but rather want facts and tools to have a more and better way of thinking".

I am not so sure that is the truth about the crowd in this video. If you notice what really makes them cheer, it is not reason and logic, but it is simple ridicule of an opponent. That is really low for any person on a pulpit - and especially for Dawkins who is supposed to be a advocate for reason.

  • @Bobathefish

He is just retaliating against the shit heads like Ben Stein and other religions morons who used trickery and deceit on you-tube,and posted edited videos showing Mr.Dawkins losing debates, when in fact he was winning the debates.

These pillars of the religious community just show us that a liar is a liar,no mater what made up deity they want to force you to believe in.

I think you should rephrase your comment and apologize to the readers, and bow to superior knowledge.

  • Thank God (figure of speech) the New Atheism movement has such an awesomely charismatic leader. GENIUS use of the "Bad to the Bone" riff.

  • an idiot!!! Not more!

  • every time i see dawkins i have an experience with god... or dawkins

  • awesome, good to see barriers being broken down in America allowing free thought!

  • The random scene in his satire where he's wearing sunglasses always makes me lol

  • hes so brave

  • @AsG1989

Kent Hovind was brave all the time... it ticked you off so much, you shut him up.

  • I don't see how Evolution and God are contrary to each other. Can't they both be true?

  • they can (the pope and others have accepted it) but the people in places like oklahoma are bent on the literal interpretation of genisis (ie, 6 day creation, 6000 year old earth, etc) and that certainly is contrary to the scientific evidence.

  • depends on a god. which god do you have in mind?

  • Evolution and the concept of a god can yes.

Christian, Muslim, Jewish gods in particular.... not really, unless you bend the theology a lot, which breaks the idea of their faith anyway.

Have to bend it even more to encompass abiogenesis.

  • Ben (idiot) Stein is a sick sad dangerous old bastard.

  • i love how he edits his fake interview down.

    "as a...sex.. MANIAC"

  • I fucking hate Ben Stein.

  • Go Richard Dawkins!

  • Wow, I live in OK. Never would have thought this backasswards christian crazy state would have a mind like Dawkins speak publicly. Thank you OU. Dawkins is one of the greatest biological minds of the last three decades. Awesome.

  • Listen to the entire event on my channel playlist...

  • I can't believe that I live under 10 miles from this event and yet didn't even know about it

  • Comment removed

  • I wish I had been there to see this. Does anybody have the full video?

  • Sniff, sniff. The tears are just oozing out of my eyes. Creationists don't bash, mock, or ridicule opponents. They always work from an assumed position of "GOD'S" superiority. How can a normal human with a thinking mind embrace the concept of a god and base all their understanding on a work of extreme fiction called "The Bible"?

    Utter imbecility!

  • Actually, teaching about the stork wouldn't be a bad idea. All those people who believe in it will not be able to reproduce, and will die off

  • GO Oklahoma! I hope they are able to repel the creatard invasion on science there. I wish I had $5K to donate.

  • Where is the rest of the presentation? I've been waiting forever for it to be released!

  • I was sitting like three rows back!! The Darwin Society of Oklahoma was one of the main organizations that made this possible! This was a great lecture! I expected there to be a lot more content over religion. However, Dawkins was very respectful and talked more about biology and evolution than anything else! This lecture very enlightening and entertaining.

  • Look at that opening! He's a rock star!

    Go Reason, go!

  • thank you Dawkins!

  • This video is like a house made of victory bricks. man it's funny.

  • Bleh, I couldn't go.... Had to work.

  • Is the rest of this a secret or something?

What's the delay on the full video?

Anyone know where to find it?

  • richarddawkins(.)net has all his work, video and otherwise.

    See what you think.

  • I check his site every other day for new stuff. I can't find more than the intro for this event though. PM me a link to the full lecture if you got one. Thanks.

  • Sorry I can't find the full version either, but I think he states his case well here by highlighting the propaganda and lies of ID freaks.

    Apologies again.

  • Dawks is awesome !

  • Check Christopher Hitchens too.

  • 00:56 TWSS

  • Brazil Loves you!!!! (Ok, the intelligent part)!!!

Thank you so much for taking me off from blindness of religion.

  • And you too, the fact you don't get his point is because you haven't the intellectual wherewithal to realise it!

He's making a point, you fail to get it, who's in error here, the story teller or the listener?

  • Wow!

    -10

You've obviously learnt a lot about yourself here then?

  • Long live the Dawks.

  • This guy is doing a great job, I hope he frees many people from the brainwashing of religion.

  • Isn't it peculiar how religious people try bring down the good name of Dawkins by accusing him of pretty much making his own religion?

"Hey, hes not that great, in fact, he's turning into us! How pathetic!"

But hey, the religious are quite lacking in the argument department these days, so I don't blame them.

  • Dawkins is great, but I don't like the "coliseum behavior" of american people crowd.

  • I was so at this...it was great. :D It's nice to see people who actually use their brain come together instead of the people who follow tradition and authority...

  • Oh's no's. Dawkins is more popular than jesus in the state of oklahoma.

  • I hear that God is currently drawing up plans to bring his OMNIPOTENT AND INFINITE RAGE down upon the (EVIL) citizens of Oklahoma with a couple of small house fires or maybe a flood. Trust me.

  • Where can I find the full version of this lecture ?

    Link , please.

  • There is no evidence for memes, the selfish gene, or the extended phenotype. The gene is not the unit of selection either. And nobody thinks it is besides maybe Richard Dawkins and the scientifically illiterate sheep who buy his products. Dawkins had contributed nothing but pseudoscience.

  • A gene is a segment of DNA located at a particular place on a chromosome that encodes the information for the amino acid sequence of a protein, and hence particular traits. During sexual reproduction two compatible gametes form a zygote. This new organism now has half of one parent's chromosomes and half of the others. The organism will express whichever half of the allele is "dominant." Memes, on the other hand, are not proven science. Still, you fail biology.

  • Do you realize that alot of the Bible is just concepts stolen by other works? For example, the flood story is simply a story from the Epic of Gilgamesh...there are much more but no others come to mind at this moment. People follow religious ideology simple through tradition and authority.

  • Ah shit, how near is "very near"? I'm bowling on Wednesday. Is the time of the beast's mark before or after Wednesday?

  • Comment removed

  • I guess I don't understand....can you elaborate further?

  • the bible is mythology. if we get chips that will be a travesty, but it will not be reinforcing prophecy. all prophets are false prophets.

  • Nope. I'll "believe" in a god when adequate evidence is given to do so. A bible doesn't mean squat for evidence.

    Get over yourself.

  • It's only cause you dont have any!

  • Nor is it required for most of the psychological maladies.

Paranoid people believe that everyone's out to get them. They take a while to respond to reasoned argument to show how invalid their belief was.

Belief in that which isn't is the definition of madness.

  • The bible is an interesting piece of fiction. For 2 thousand years man has been pounding it hard on the head of free thinkers to make them conform. This criminally wasteful book has been the source of abyssymal idiocy for too long. Bible burning is a movement that should be rolling soon!

  • and see what?

  • You'll know when you see it. I will say nothing about it, because hundreds of "wise scientists" will start making a fuss, and I don't have time for that.

If you want to prove to yourself that there is no God, then do what I wrote and if your opinion doesn't change, then SO BE IT!

  • look, im not saying no god exists, because i dont know and no one does. i just think that to devote your entire life to something that you have zero proof of is pure ignorance. these "wise scientists" you speak of are the ones who provide any argument that is backed up by indisputable fact.

It is a one sided argument, and if you cant see it that way then youre just dilusional...

  • You want my arguments? You know where to look....

  • It's a marketing scam. this is the guy who sales pretzles by jesus' grave. when jesus doesn't pop out of the ground on easter, he says, ' ah, jeez mac, that's too bad. want to buy a pretzle?) you sneaky baker you.

  • Riiight........

  • I know, sheesh. I meant to say, that you're a superstitous cunt, who is ruining the world, but i thought the other way was nicer.

  • I'm ruining the World.... O.o

  • Well, not you personally, so to speak. But, I don't consider Christians to be individuals, so when I say, 'You', I mean your church of indoctrination and ignorance.

  • That would be the Catholic/Protestant/Mormon etc church, not the real one - Orthodox.

  • OH, the 'real' one. Would that be the russian orthodox or he greak, because they hate each other also. Or, would it be the real orthodox worship of zeus in anthens 2400 years ago. they are all a joke.

  • They actually don't, and it's about the Serbian one.

Also, you know nothing about us, only what you heard from people like AmazingAtheist etc, so you're not really suitable to say whether we're a joke or not.

  • I don't know what amazingatheist is, but I'm making fun of the orthodox church because 1.) you're christians, which is a bogus beliefe system not based on reason, though it seems to think that it has a lock on morals. 2.) Doestoevsky was an orthodoc christian, and he made some psychotic christian rants. 3.) you guys were just in the news for fighting for killing each other in some big fight. but, serbian women are hot, i'll concede that. even if orthodox christians are irrational, psychopaths.

  • a classic example of how divisive and tribalistic religion is.

    well done.

  • The easiest method of self and God realisation in this age is to chant the Holy names of God:

Hare Krsna Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna , Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama,Hare Hare

  • brilliant video

  • Damnit, I missed it! I plan on going to OU this Fall...

  • Mr Dawkins, you make me incredibly proud to be British. More power to your elbow - and Darwin's!

  • So Good! I too have made a little YouTube for Darwin's birthday entitled Darwin V Adam & Eve. It just shows to those of us who are not quite sure what all the fuss is about.

Says it all really. See what you thing!

  • "What on Earth is a University for if it only reinforces opinions that students already hold?"

As a University student, this is probably the best point I have ever heard anyone make!

  • What Christian parents don't realize is that a public, secular, university will expose their children to Critical Thinking, Philosophy, Sociology, Science, Literature, and not to mention exposure to other ways of living. I agree with Dawkins on this issue. We as a society should help as many young people have access to this well of ideas. Through a university education, we as a society will free ourselves from bronze age myths.

  • haha, it's like rock concert there ;-)

  • Excellent.

Professor RICHARD DAWKINS is the wise man of the 21th century.

  • Richard Dawkins is amazing! =-)

  • but ur comment has no arguments when i think about it so its even worse

  • This is nothing more than a charade. He says a word and everybody starts cheering like a bunch of fanatics. If you guys want to believe that everything we see in world was made by some random effects out of a "soup of life" caused by some thunderstorm, then you should question yourselves whom you should call an enemy of reason. Look at the planets - they move in a perfect order, animals act in a perfect order, everything goes perfectly except for human minds that make up stories about randomness

  • actually, nothing happens in a perfect order. Mutatins, defects, anomylies happen in nature all the time.

Species become extinct, new species appear and take over an area.

Where do you get this idea of perfection and harmony from?

But evolution easily explains how things work as best as they can. Each animal has adopted to its environment so that it can be in harmony as much as that is possible.

  • What I never understand about this argument is that you guys never apply the same logic to god. What are the chances an intelligent, omnipotent all knowing, all seeing entity just popped into existence. Seems a lot less likely than a simple natural mechanism such as the big bang. As an estimate there are 10000000000000000 planets in just our universe. Dont you think at least one might get lucky with having ideal conditions for life? Its like winning the lottery, unlikely, but someone will.

  • its still unlikely that so many thing achieve a so called harmony on the account of luck. have u ever succeeded in making a tower by throwing a deck of cards in the air? no? well neither did i. lottery theory doesnt work here?

  • lol, well I hate to break this to you but its beyond doubt, proven a million times, just because you cant understand it doesnt make it untrue. It is true that human minds make up stories about random effects, its called religion. Next time you get on a plane or type on your computer you should give science a little more credit than making up stories about randomness. lol

  • then all those healing miracle in (for example) monastery of Ostrog are unreal? I was there when one happened (though i was in toilet at that time but my friends saw) and also many ppl i know told me about others. in a church near my house miracles happen all the time like crying icons etc. sounds random?

  • it's more probable that youre lying, that you're being lied to or something similar than that there is a god who choses to reveal himself in pity act likes that.

  • well if its up to calling others liars, then i can say darvinists are those, and our discussion will never end. i dont know why you see me as an enemy, i dont want to harm you or mislead u in any way. the only purpose of my posting here is to help relize that there is more than meets the eye. as i said, go to ostrog and see for yourself if you dont believe, theres always a miracle going on there. there are many other places too.

  • It's all bullshit, yes. Everyone believing in miracles are DELUDED IDIOTS and those who claim to have seen one are MENTALLY ILL and should visit a psychiatrist.

  • I feel sad for you brother, you keep thinking that those who wish you good are idiots, and believe to those who say that we came to an existance by random. go to Jesuses grave on the Easter and call yourself mentally ill after that experience.

  • Don't worry, it's mutual.

There's no empirical evidence of any miracles taking place anywere, anytime, whatsoever. There never will be either.

Wake up and accept reality for what it is.

  • Well crying icons are real for sure. There are miracles indeed, just that you cannot accept them if your mind is so closed.

  • Of course it's real.

I've smoked weed with two leprechauns a couple of nights ago and then they took off on their pink unicorns. UnfortunatelyI couldn't find my digital camera and document it though but it's real and if you don't believe me - you're closed minded.

  • Or perhaps our mind are not so open that the brain fell out. Look at debunking of this myth. In all cases looked at, there was foul play or a natural explanation at hand. I am really pissed about that as a former christian. I cannot understand how assHoly men can use these cheap tricks and cheat to have more followers.

  • thats what all the atheists say "ffs its a cheap trick, though i cannot explain it, but still its so fake!"

  • Actually I was referring to the evidence of the contrary. That all icons who have been examined by scrupulous people find that they are either fake (like the priest spraying things on it) or that it has something to do with the composition of the paint, etc. I wonder what Mary would say when she heard her icon cried chicken blood tears...

  • well in that monastery on Kosmaj an icon has let out a couple of tears and monks and others there are my friends or so, i know they wouldnt lie to me.

there were other cases, like when a cross had appeared in the sky above a church in russia. dont think that priests had painted it there :S

and about the biblical prophecy? things written there have happened or are happening through history. definetly not work of a priest or so...

  • oh yes, holy water doest get spoiled after it had been blessed by a real christian priest (this ofc doesnt include catholics)

  • They don't have to lie to you. But the fact that they assume its real tears doesn't hold water... As soon as you test those tears (and have watched the icon a few days to make sure noone sprayed it with anything) let me know. I'd be interested to know the results.

There are Marry faced on toast, on tree barks, etc. Try looking on youtube at Michael Shermer and others, see how many of these are real. And holy water doesnt turn bad with or without blessing, its the plants they put in it.

  • u mean the basil, well try putting it in water and leaving it a couple of days or so, u ll see that it gets spoiled.

  • If you use a silver or gold cup to hold it in it may not. Besides I'm not 100% convinced it's just basil. I'd have to infiltrate a priest school or a church to make sure I do it in the same way. That would be a proper test.

  • well here in serbia b4 slava (saints day) a priests comes and blesses a bowl of water in every house. its nothing more than basil and normal water we pour for him

  • Try getting the same tool they use (branch of basil) just before they bless it or whatever holy thing they do with it, and use it on your own water and say "In the name of Dawkins" to make sure it's not holy. Ah yes, and perhaps the time of the year is important as well. That would be very interesting. If you are afraid of holy consequences, find a friend atheist to do it. That would be really interesting to know what happens.

  • a theology teacher in highschool told us to do that but i keep forgetting. ok i ll do it for you once i go to my parrents' house :P

  • Great. Just make sure its proper test. Trusting priests to give you a branch may not be the right thing to do. And you must control the experiment. You have to watch the priest taking one of those branches and the next, immediately, using them to bless the water (not putting them into any containers, not spraying the branches with anything, etc). Unfortunately this poses the problem of stealing one, unless you can convince the priest to give one that he is about to use.

  • i have lots of basil branches at my parents' house. i ll do this coz of you, coz in fact im not a miracle hunter.

  • That may not work. How do you know that the priest's branches are pure, not treated with anything? I suggest you really do this experiment correctly and document it for youtube. Ask a scientist to verify your test procedure to make sure you don't leave something important to chance (a way for the priest to cheat, not having a "control" glass of real holy water placed in the same cabinet until one of the waters go bad, not making sure that the same amount of basil enters the water, etc).

  • I am not a scientist so I can't help. But this, if done correctly, would settle a lot of things.

  • as i said i have to wait till i go to parents' house, coz i ve got not basil here :<

i ll pour some water in one bottle and add some basil and pour water in another bottle without adding basil. then i ll leave it stay hmmm a month? i hope that will make u happy

  • That will still leave the possibility that the priest sprays the branch with something. So that wouldn't be a conclusive test. You must duplicate the whole process, except that one glass should have the right words spoken over and the other shouldn't. I know you trust the priests, but if you want us to trust the experiment, you must do it so that they couldn't possibly cheat. Also, Romanian priests put the branch into holy water flask between houses to be blessed. It may contain other substances

  • water blessed by a catholic priest gets stale as i said

  • well i havent seen him spraying anything... we prepare a bowl of water, a small bunch of basil and a candle the day he tells us he would come.

  • unless if he has super reflexes to take out a pump, spray it and put it back within a blink so no one can see. its our basil, and we dont have any weird substances...

  • Excellent, document that thing. It may raise some interest. Also, step on his foot or something while holding another cup of water, to make sure you have a normal, unholy cup. And then see which one takes longer to spoil (keep them both in the same place, same conditions, same clean glasses and water to start with).

  • "unholy".....

how should i document it? i cannot record the smell of the water :S

  • Good question. Perhaps you can show the 2 glasses to random people on the street and ask them to tell you which one is the rotten one. Document the whole process, including the moment when the water gets blessed.

  • but you will still call me liar... u ll say that i ve put some piss or so in one of the glasses and gave it to a person i ve agreed to meet.... rly hard to show u anything if its not face to face

  • Well you can use a scientific lab to assess if the water is good for drinking. Or something like that. The point is that you should always try to test/reevaluate problems and never just assume things as true just because a lot of people say so.

  • well everything said in the Bible has happened/is happening. Lab....... im supposed to do so many things so that a random person can call me a liar and faker...? would be easier to mail you some of the holy water..................

  • Yes, vanquish the demon inside me.. You should really read up more about the bible. I was horrified when I found out several things. For ex., I believed that the New T. was written by the disciples only to find out it was written decades after the Jesus presumably died. As much as 90! years after that. Certainly not by people who new him directly. Not to mention that at age 50 your were an old man in those times. Then you have zero credible mentioning of Jesus in history except the bible.

  • there are many people who want to destroy faith so they make up stories. bible has predicted so many things and the prophecy had been realized. just plz watch that vid (miracle in russia - (some text in the russian)) coz i cannot link it :S

  • People are good at taking elements from the bible, reading into them, and making POST-dictions, but I have zero awareness of any PRE-diction that is in the bible that is beyond firt-person knowledge and is publicly accessible, in the way say that we forecast weather, posit hypotheses (or predictions if you like) about where particles will be in space, how much heat it will take to convert a given element into a liquid, etc. Contrarily, one must have faith in stories that ARE made up.

  • well then since you are so wise and alknowing and thus sure its all a big lie - why don't you become a new god.....?

there were many who called us liars but look where they are now, and where are we.

  • Hmm, never claimed to be wise or all knowing. Those are your words. Nor did I ever call anyone a liar or state anything about lies. Looks like you created a slippery slope and fell right down it. Stop with the red herrings and strawmen, and provide publicly available proof of a prediction from the bible that is accepted as true. I'm waiting with anticipation.

  • About that slippery slope I fell down - I don't care what you will think of me. I don't care if the entire world will call me crazy. The thing that is important to me is to help as many people to get back to the right way.

All this couldn't have became without a perfect Creator Who had set it in this cyclic order.

I am not nothing like a wise nor alknowing man, I'm even bigger sinner than everybody here, but it's not about me here.

I'm trying to open your eyes. Please take a look at the Bible.

  • Eh, again, red herring. I never made this about you, so please stop changing the topic. Provide a publicly available example of a prediction from the bible that is accepted as true. Another big war as you talk about in your other post is NOT much of a prediction. Anyone could state as much with some accuracy as there is a good
