0:20-0:27 -- The university intellectual to an absolute T! An astonishingly profound concept about to be unleashed on a seminar of uninterested (hungover) undergraduates.
Besides the obvious hilarity of the sketch, Stephen has some really interesting things to say! Stephen Fry is in actuality a lover of the English language and a linguist, as well as a self-proclaimed addict of reading. The way he mixes unparalleled humour with fascinating intelligence and sophistication is just ... "lovely."
Even though Stephen said all that in a comic way, it was real linguistic information. I enjoyed listening to this sketch because of that and simply because it was funny :)
@SurlyInsomniac No ... not at all. we lack that i'd say. And the fact that actual intellectual discussion becomes a thing to laugh at... while i do admit such stereotypical mannerisms as portrayed here in this sketch do hold certain entertainment value when portrayed ironically enough, is a sign of the general publics attitude and the kind of people that modern television is trying to reach and entertain. Actually that gives me the idea we might resort to upper class TV and lower class TV. Hm.
@SpiritWanderer91 ooooh, intellectual television viewing... surely you jest! ;) and it amuses me more that these skits from 20+ years ago still hold true today and are still funny.
@trinachronism i certainly do ^^ i wanted more intellectualism in my life 3 years ago and threw me telly out the window :p well maybe not that extreme but pretty much ^^ But yes absolutely brilliant and timeless these sketches are :)
@SpiritWanderer91 oh, I wish I could speak that well but yes, I was once many a year ago always censured and frowned upon for what seemed like snobbery. *shrug*
These guys are "Capable" to make me laugh like nobody else.

Even through all that nonsense, Stephen maintains his natural, sophisticated self. How can anyone not fall in love with him?

@saraface11 None of it is nonsense, it's all highly interesting questions of philosophy of language. That's the beauty of the skit.

Is it wrong that I'd actually like to hear a serious discussion about Hitlerian rhetoric and how it would've been received by the British?
