Only when driving do you have to present a drivers license, otherwise what you are saying is at any time a police offer can demand to "see your papers". All you are required to do is give a name and say if you are a resident you do not have to carry an ID everywhere to show a police officer in case he ask. That having been said I think the women was being a bit of a wise @ZZ with that cop, but that doesn't mean she hates cops.

@frankiegmh In California its law to have a valid ID on you are all times if you're over the age of 18. And I'm sure it's like this on most states. So yes, technically there's a law that says you have to have an ID on you at all times and police can ask for it when ever they like. Just saying,

Do you know where I could find that law somewhere. Do you know if it is a state law or is it a local statute? As far as I know there is no law federal or state that requires a us citizen to carry an ID. If there was it would probably be challenged and made into a supreme court case. One of our most fundamental right in this country is freedom of travel and to be secure in our effect and person, in other words you can't be searched or forced to answer any question with out a warrant.

walking up to a police van carrying "criminals" (even though they might have not done anything that is against the law) would be seen as a threat because there were times in history were actual crimals were busted out of those such vans and the officers killed. so walking up to one of those vans might not be the best idea.

Why to people hate seatbelt laws so much? It's not there to infringe on personal rights, it's there to make sure your stupid dead body doesn't bounce around the car and out the window and kill whoever you hit. It's not for you, it's for the bystanders you may hit and kill whilst flying through the air if you're involved in a crash. I wear a belt all the time because I know if I am in a crash, I have a duty to assist others as best I can, and a belt will help me do that.

Since the industrial revolution 2 instances of people being hit by objects from space have been recorded with 1 ending in a fatality. People suffering serious injury or death because of being struck by another occupant who was not restrained after being involved in an accident are much higher than that according to the NHTSA. I'd rather someone who doesn't wanna wear their belt smash into door across from them if their car gets hit, not me.

I don't know what this demonstration is about, but that lady was wrong to antagonize the police officer. If you are going to exercise your First Amendment Rights, you should try to stay friendly with local law enforcement. Treat them the way you would like to be treated. They are people too.

I feel exactly the same way. They do have a lot of discretion to use on their jobs, as to whom they ignore, whom they cite, and whom they arrest. You have to give respect to get respect. If all Liberty activists started doing what that lady did, then soon all Liberty lovers would find themselves in jail, with some really bad press. That would NOT help our cause. We are supposed to be taking the moral high ground here. While the cop did appear to be very cocky and possibly even "looking for a fight", she appeared to start it by calling him a name.
