  • This story isn't true: a pencil can't be used in space because in 0G the graphite dust will float into machinery and block tiny spaces, and also into the astronauts' breathing passages. Also, pencils won't work at very high or very low or very high temperatures

  • @wrathofachilles

So human bodies don't shed any particles with size equivalent to graphite dust? Ever heard of dandruff? Just a fraction of what we shed. Do you really think the internals of a space ship are so fragile and delicate that a sneeze could destroy everything? That anything will "float into machinery and block tiny spaces". Seriously, what?

  • @wrathofachilles

Pencils will work at any temperature a human being can survive in. Think of practicality, not bragging rights that cost 12 million dollars. What's a frozen or cremated astronaut going to do with a pencil?

  • Pencils in space are very dangerous because you can breath in the graphite dust.

  • It's not real, that wasn't the reason for making this pen, that would work anywhere, and more, pencils don't work in very low temp.
