@friendlynephew Redcoat Band cares more about football, less about DCI wanna-be shows, and plays stuff the crowd actually knows and enjoys rather than Ukrainian Bell Carol. I hope the 15,000 or so people who don't leave to get hotdogs enjoy that section!!
With that said, The Southerners are fantastic... but leave it to talent to ruin any kind of respect for the individuals. GOD music majors are douche bags. Congrats to them for teaching middle school band @ $30k a year.
That was my freshman year and the first time ever playing with the Southerners as a whole. It was the most amazing experience! I can't wait until August to do it all again!! Whup Troy and BLOW SOUTHERNERS!!!!!!! =)
i went to their band day and i got to play this with them. it was so much fun, i hope that one day i will be able to be a member of this amazing marching band.
Our band got to play Salvation is Created with some of the Marching Southerners this marching season. I played like the first note, and then couldn't play anymore because I was shaking so hard. xD It was so beautiful.
Our band went to their band day not too long ago and it was awesome! We played pregame with them with 25 other marching bands from the surrounding areas! Bout 500 on the field! :D
Wow! That was really great! The Choir I am in is singing that song this year, and the director told us we should really get on here and listen. I thought it was AMAZING!
I was in Southerners 1967-1971, and we played most of the same tunes (minus "Salvation") then. It gave me chill bumps then, as it does now. I didn't know much about Southerners when I went to JSU, but after hearing them "live", I thought I had died and gone to Band Heaven. BLOW!!
Blow 20Js!!!!! Does anyone have video of either '89 or '90 shows? Or even the drumline competition in Nashville of '90? If I remember right, it was Beetlejuice! Awesome! I still miss Mason Hall and those Thursday night runs!
best tuba sound i have ever heard in a marching band..so huge and full. especially when some of them play those lows in salvation. huge bass sound i love it. go 20J!
I went to Jax State '77-'81..graduated in '81. Listening/watching this brought back great memories. I was not in the band, but really enjoyed them. Thanks.
In a couple weeks I'll be starting my second year as a Southerner and I cant wait for this part of band camp!

Uncle Dave looks soooo old. He was white-headed when I marched in 79. He must be in his 80s now. So good to see him still getting around.
Same old Mason Hall band room. Those songs sound EXACTLY the same as when we played/sang them. Glad to see the continuity.
