All the whole cult of "addiction" we worship in this country (and much of the Western World) does is give otherwise normal people a green light to disregard self-esteem. If you like sex a lot to the point where it's hurting your relationship or otherwise interfering with life, you can either STOP, or you can say you can't help it and keep going. people who make light of these situations make me sad. good for you if you don't have problems like these people do, but shame on you for criticizing something you don't understand or even claiming that the condition doesn't exist in the first place. how naive one must be to claim something doesn't exist just because they haven't experienced it personally.. while i don't expect society to condone certain behaviors, i think a little more understanding or sympathy would benefit us as a whole.

victims of sex addiction (wives of addicts, families, etc.) should realize that they aren't the only victims. the addict is a victim himself. women affected by addicted men often seem to make themselves believe that the man intentionally meant to hurt them. quite the opposite is true which is why the men lie in the first place. i'm not saying that lying is ok or anything like that, but i think it's important to understand why the addicts do what they do. they are hurting too.

i think it speaks volumes of the guy's character that he came forward and admitted his faults to his wife with everything that he knew he could lose. active addicts are bound by their addictions, yes, but one's character is not defined by their actions in addiction. the people whom i've met who are in recovery are the most amazing people i've ever found. i think this is because it takes a special person to admit to such humiliating faults and want to change.

what about womens additions. where women are addicted to being cared for by men; having doors opened for them, having dinners paid for, getting gifts from them (like useless jewelry). they should be given some form of treatment to rid them of their disease. if they could fend for themselves without manipulating men to get what they want, thered be no more porn, and less sex to fuel sex addiction. lets talk about that instead.

They are part of it, of course, but they are not the only ones at fault and not the only ones that cause perversion, nor the only ones who are manipulative and codependent. @BecauseAlexWasBored human males drive sex in most cases, and often, women only give in (like in pornography) in exchange for something nonsexual from men (money in porns case). if women were more self reliant, never giving in to the sexual desires of men to attain nonsexual rewards, men would have fewer porn videos, less sex to fuel their addictions.

If you people could just exercise some self-control, retain your willpower, you could nip it in the bud before it even started.
Hell, I'm 22 and still a virgin - I understand the problem fine, I can just work past it.
Also, people that use Christianity as a solution to their addictions (illegal drugs, alcohol, sex addiction, etc.) are just replacing one dependency with another.

@phocjame No actually it can be a chemical addiction. There are medications that can either add to, or take away your natural sexual desire. Any sexual desire can come from a hormonal imbalance. I've been told this by several doctors. To help rid me of my addiction I was placed on medication. Part of the addiction can absolutely be hormonal and chemical. Theres even a chemical weapon that can turn men on eachother sexually. Some sex addicts actually suffers from a syndrome. So u are wrong.

@phocjame I'm sorry, chemical imbalance. There is a portion of the addiction that takes will power. But a lot of it can also be treated medically.
I just don't like when people judge others without knowing their cause or reasons. As if they are some sort of expert. You can't read the mind, you can't read the heart, and you know very little about the situation. That is why it is wrong for you to judge. Because you judge based on ignorance.
