There has been comment made that our region the Illawarra from Helensburgh to Shoalhaven does not count. The St.George brand they say is world renowned. I wonder what St.Helens in the UK would say about that. There are moves taking place to return the Illawarra Steelers back to the Highest level of Rugby League. We will get to hear "Taste of Steel" roar across Win Stadium once again. You'll be able to sing loud and proud and watch the best of the Illawarra without one St.George supporter.

As a Red V Season ticket holder i put my money where my mouth is. So here's my take. Sydney Media outlets do NOT want to recognize our Illawarra players, Our region in anyway shape or form and that is just how the St.George Board and their fans want it. In reality the Dragons are the Illawarra Steelers playing in St.George Jumpers. By the way the Win Corporation paid back Steelers debt to St.George. Very proud to see the first ever premiership of the Illawarra Steelers in 2010. Well done.

For you St George people, yes, you do have money. Oh, by the way, mind telling me how many local juniors YOU contributed to the team in 2010?

Steelers fans and magpies fans are equally pissed. We both prop up the team player wise (And in Wests case, money wise), yet it's all about the team that supposedly has more history. Illawarra was supplying players to St George from the day they were founded.

@keiththeref would wests fans have rathered it be called the balmain magpies or mergers with parra for the tigers and bulldogs for the magpies which were our options at that time and in my opinion would be much more comparable to the steelers situation. we have a premiership, we have great crowds and more leagues clubs than i can count with my shoes off. all we need now is a more traditional song i would be quite happy to see them run out to the tune of "we are the boys from western suburbs".

Even with a Premiership win I still detect quite a bit of disenfranchisement amongst the Illawarra side of the ledger. I have to say I can understand why they feel that way. Commentators crapping on about 2010 being an all Sydney Grand Final and old timers still calling them as St George. (For the record I'm a supporter of neither)

To this day I don't get the Steeler die-hards who refuse to accept the Dragons. The merger between our two clubs has been an unbelievable success. By the mid to late 1990s both our clubs were on the verge of financial oblivion. In 2010 we are the Minor Premiers and Premiers, have the largest membership base in Sydney, play out of two fantastic stadiums which are both being upgraded and boast one of the best back offices in the League. We are an economic and footballing success. Unite us please.

@kmank2 - Maybe Illawarra people would embrass St George if you acknowledged them more - you have the same jersey and emblem you had pre-merger, and with the exemption of the word 'Illawarra' in the name, there is no acknowledgement in the clubs image.

Maybe if you had the Steeler logo on the shoulder of the jersey, or wore an old Steelers jersey as an alternate jersey or something.

@kmank2 Again your missing the point. You said the best membership in "Sydney". The Illawarra region is not in Sydney. From Helensburgh down to Shoalhaven. How can there be a united team when players wear the Red V. Red V is St.George. So in that jersey please explain to me what part of that shows any link or historical reference to our region.....NONE. Last years Grand Final was not the "All Sydney Grand Final" I wonder how many times Kogarah and Bondi could fit into the Illawarra Region.

i think illawarra steelers should throw away there history and let the st george illawarra dragons take the old st george history and scrap any steelers crap because i want the reocrd books to the dragons have 16 premierships. not 1 premiership the steelers have no history. but dragons can still play in wollongong.

@TheFK93 This is funny. So It's Illawarra players. Playing in St.George Jersey's. With token matches at Kogarah and Wollongong. Let's look at the Rugby League Map. If Sydney had no Rugby League teams right now with the lack of Juniors to stand alone both St.George and Cronulla would not be granted entry into the NRL. They would have to enter a team representing Botany Bay. Illawarra, Newcastle and Central Coast hold the biggest junior bases outside of Sydney. Keep dining out on a fake past.

This Payment by WIN is backed by the Gordon family who are very proud Illawarra business identities. They too also have naming rights over Win Jubilee Oval. I think what gets up the nose of Illawarra supporters is they way the Sydney media and Fans keep dining out of on Saints great past and record winning premierhips. St,George Illawarra have only won ONE premiership.
