  • Of course it is slow, but it is not fake, it is slow, because it is only in he making, once it has been optimized it will probably run at full speed. And the fact, that it is hooked up to a computer does not mean, that it is fake, it is just collecting the data from the Pandora, so the emulator can be optimized and the bugs fixed. The actual processing is done on the console itself.

  • Can't will until emulators on the Pandora run fast enough to be playable. ...emulators that can't run on the gp2x for example. It's neat to see a working emulation of the dreamcast or amiga, but it seems like the only one that runs well (compared to the gp2x) is the SNES one.

  • very slow ://

  • Menos discusión y mas disfrutar del video, pronto tendremos juegos de Dreamcast en nuestras Pandoras :-))

    Ignorad a nitoro81

  • Props to Drk||Raziel :0

I've been looking at the NEON instruction set, and going to preorder one. Any chance of a public arm source code?

  • Hello I am a dumb person who likes to troll, talks sh*ts about stuff I dont know about or care about. Lemme iterate the negative posts for you: They, just like me, I have no value, or mindset, proofs for my idiotic comments. The only letters I see on the keyboard is F,A,K,E. If I am proven wrong, I will be in denial or just comment about how its sucks anyway. Once again I am sooo dumb, ignoring others and have no proof about the video I can only spell FAKE.

    /s *end of mock*

  • Looks promising! Very much anticipating its release.

  • Yeah, dunno why :|

This will not change how fake this video is... no matter how many negative votes I get.

  • Because people think you are wrong. Consider this, what if you are wrong?

  • I'm not wrong. I am right.

  • I'm 2 months too late, but if you see this then I suggest you do a little research: nullDC is a well known Dreamcast emulator for PC and the same people who made it are behind this port. So they're already credible.

If you still think it's fake would you care to at least explain why?

  • Stupid User is stupid, and yes I'm talking of you ExPsy

  • @Mivey92

    ?

  • damn, this is really impressive and it is clearly visible, how big potential that machine has.

  • is it fullspeed, i cant tell i have not played those games 4 a while

  • Not very playable, sadly :(

  • It might be when it's optimized. Don't you see the potential when it's already running this good?

  • One of the fun things about Pandora arriving will be watching all the naysayers eat shit.

  • It's real, stop bitching.

  • I'll do a video in the middle of a field, but I suspect the non-believers will then just claim I'm running videos from an SD card. Gads.

  • The non-believers dont even believe the SD card exists or that Pandora exists - forgotten that already? One can always imagine a contraption behind a contraption etc etc.

I'd rather request a better readable profile information - what's the last column of console output?

  • People also managed to get nullDC running on the BeagleBoard, which is very similar to the motherboard of the Pandora.

What is it that makes this video seem so impossible? Again, no one is getting profits of showing these videos. They can only damage their own reputations instead. Once the Pandora is released we all have access to this nullDC emulator and we'll see how it runs in front of our own eyes.

  • Seriously, I must laugh really hard at all the comments of this video being a fake and that it's used to push the Pandora sales. Almost every Pandora of the initial 4000 has been sold for over a year! Only a few people scrapped their order until now. OpenPandora doesn't need anything to push the sales of this one-of-a-kind console. Only the idea alone made the console sell out.

Don't be ridiculous. If OpenPandora was after the money they would've been long gone to the sunny beaches.

  • ballin!

  • Great, add some sound emulation now and come back to tell me about it ;)

  • Finally an emulator that really test's the Pandora potential. Great work

  • LOL @ KOF atari version

tip for OP team: give everything this guy needs. DC emulation is gonna be a system seller. Promises already are...

  • Pretty impressive speed already at this stage. Portable Ikaruga would be a dream come true.

Oh, and KoF Atari-style looked awesome. ;D

  • I love seeing things in a test phase! Good work, can't wait to see it going faster.

  • wow this is great, cant wait until shipment

  • This has always been unrealizable, until now. Currently it runs at about 10 FPS maybe, but once it'll be tuned to the limits we may actually get something playable on this emulator.

    Excellent job!

  • Actually, emulating Dreamcast on Pandora is not a bad choice. For one, the CPU architectures of ARM and SH4 (Dreamcast) are very similar. There will be a roughly 2x per-clock emulation performance drop at most, as opposed to emulating SH4 on x86, which should be 5x-10x

Second, the video hardware is a descendant of that used on Dreamcast. It hasn't retained all the special features, but at least it runs natively on unclamped FP-framebuffer, emulating which on PC has proven difficult.

  • The performance characteristic is similar too - Pandora graphics hardware rearraganges the scene geometry and culls hidden surfaces efficiently, just as Dreamcast. There are ways to reach that on PC hardware, and modern games make use of those, however they are unpractical for emulators.

Thus you can get away with slower hardware to emulate Dreamcast on Pandora than on PC. I cannot make claims whether emulation can reach full speed though, but this speed as shown here is far from impossible.

  • This is evolution baby! But the games is running a little slowly.... Is just a matter of time to run at full speed, congratulations pandora team, good work!

P.s. is time to cut down the price.. costs more than a ps3! lol

  • Eat a lot of paint chips as a child? :)

The laptop is showing the console output from the Pandora in order to monitor the fps and show other output messages. The emulator is running on the Pandora prototype. Don't be foolish.

  • Well to begin with, everything about Pandora is different. The largest problem is not porting en emulator from Windows to Linux, it is porting the CPU emulator core and the graphics subsystem to the specifics of the system - for one an ARM host instead of x86, and the other being, although the system runs a variant of OpenGL, it still doesn't behave like a desktop GPU, in spite of decent performance.

  • There's no way wine could RUN at all on a pandora. W.I.N.E is an acronym for WINE Is Not an Emulator. Wine Doesn't emulate a computer.

Wine can actually LOAD and RUN Windows x86 (intel) executable binaries on a x86 computer running Linux. However the architecture of the CPU in the pandora is ARM which is totally different from x86. Wine can't do anything for that.

A "Virtual Machine" program like VirtualBox, if written in ARM, could be used to run x86 binaries but it'd be REALLLY slow!

    FG

  • Why does this have to be through wine?

  • I just said that wine can't run on the Pandora.

OF COURSE this video is genuine! The guy who coded NullDC as already shown a semi-working version before and he also made a version for PSP, Stop saying it's fake it's NOT.

    FG

  • @FamilyGuy999 Are you really that goofy? are you a programmer? Wine, CAN run on the pandora. will it run at a usable speed? maybe not. but IT CAN RUN on the pandora, because the pandora uses linux. wine runs on linux. now, i think i've made my point. >.> sorry, i just like to ramble a bit...... anyways, have a nice day. :D

  • @ChessPieceRook

Go on Google, type "pandora WINE FAQ" check first result and read it.

You haven't made your point at all.

  • @FamilyGuy999

"It is possible to run windows programs in Linux on ARM but it takes more than just wine. Way back, when the Sharp Zaurus was big news some people managed to combine wine and qemu. Qemu was providing the processer emulation while wine provided the windows libraries. If you search you may still be able to find a tutorial about how to make that work."

it may just be me, but i think that's saying "Yes, wine can work, if you have a program to help it."

  • @ChessPieceRook

Yeah of course, but it's not pure wine. Just not to get people confused: you can run wine under qemu, but it's useless, you can't run it directly on arm architecture. Some WineLibs could be ported though.

  • @FamilyGuy999

    My source:

    ht tp : / / wine . 1045685 . n5 . nabble . com / Wine-ARM-Pandora-Handheld-td1698736 . html

  • @FamilyGuy999

(remove the spaces to get it to work)

  • There are in fact derivative products of WINE and QEMU, which are capable of running Windows software on a non-x86 Unix-like system, DarWINE is a good starting point. QEMU is a piece of software which emulates one CPU on another, but not the complete machine hardware like a virtual machine.

But forget WINE, this looks like a clean port done from ground up..

  • He's also the person always flaming people on every video, and overall being an asshole. Check out his channel description, that basically means he's going to make fun of you and he doesn't care about what you write back to him.

  • Go on saying that to yourself, if that makes you feel better by preventing you from realizing that you are the actual assholes.

  • You can't really participate in an argument without valid facts to back your words up... so what are your facts?

  • Yeah I saw what you wrote. There is a minor problem though...

Pandora does not have video input, only video output. It cannot show stuff from another machine to its screen. It can however show stuff to a monitor or a TV.

According to that fact whatever you wrote so far is invalid.

  • Oh wow Sherlock, you got us bang to rights. It's all fake.

  • Where do you get your "fact" from? And why is the emulator in a more broken state than on PC?

This video looks real, it's a common practice to have a debug console on a PC when developing on embedded systems. But you've never done that, so how would you know.

The pandora controls might not be implemented at this stage - but if anyone intended a fake, they could just as well pipe the controls from the pandora back to PC.

  • All i see is your imagination. No facts. If we were going for straight facts, there is no way to know whether the emulator is real or not, until we have an executable on our hands to test independantly. Though there is no substancial evidence that this is fake, i know what i'm speaking of.

Come to think of it, if they wanted to show a fake, the easiest way would be to prerecord a video on PC and simply play it back from the SD card, no laptop necessary at all.

  • Again, playing would prove nothing at all, as you could pipe the Pandora controls back to PC. And why should one hide a PC if genuine debugging console runs there?

And where do you see my imagination? I never claimed the emulator is real or fake, just that it looks like a genuine development stage of a native emulator, behaving exactly like one would expect it to.

I have donated to Chankast and plowed through sources of lxdream, and worked on PSX and SNES emulation projects, but failed there.

  • I was playing the games. I clicked through the menus to get the games started. I was making the car in Crazy Taxi jump up and down but it wanted analog controls to move the car and that isn't implemented yet. I was controlling the left character in KOF and making it do kicks and jumps. I have no reason to lie so most of the game play is close up on the screen. Others will be able to verify it works soon enough.

Aren't you the person who goes around to all Pandora videos calling them fake?

  • First of all, it can definitely emulate Dreamcast with a 600 mhz processor, it has 3d accelerators for a reason. Second of all, even if we're fanboys, what does that make you? What are you going to gain if this video is fake, is it going to make you feel better about yourself?

  • Answer your own question: What are YOU going to gain if this video is fake and discover that all this Pandora project is destined to fail or is even hoax?

  • or if you watched the video you will se him play CT2

  • no, but you could make it "playable"

  • Ehm, you don't really know what you're talking about, do you? Technically speaking I mean. As to why there would be crashes or why would it be slow or why would there be sound stuttering.

As a side-note, no one claimed that there would be sound output at all anyway.

  • Then explain to me. Why 100% speed is impossible? What stops it from happening? How much speed could be achieved?

  • No reply? No technical explanation? Maybe something about technical limitations or architectural differences or something? Looks like you REALLY don't know what you're talking about. lol

  • The "If you cannot explain it, then it's not true, duh!" tactic doesn't work either, sorry.

  • Sure it works. It shows who knows what he is talking about and who does not... and you clearly don't know. :)

  • The difference here is that I can explain why full speed is possible and such while you can't.

I'm acting fool just to wait and see where are your claims based at.

The gravity example you gave is also invalid cause you can learn about it by taking some time to read relevant documentation. The same applies to emulation.

The point is that you base your words on personal assumptions rather than facts, while I base my words on valid documentation and real-life examples.

  • You really are a funny guy. Quite retarded, but still funny. LOL

Have fun sticking to your retarded opinion. :)

  • its already faster than that X.x

  • Most dreamcast games and may console games for that matter do not fully utilize the CPU especially games that were released near lauch.... So yes I think it can happen

  • @The Haters

Hey, you must be great at making a emulator from the ground up. Oh wait, you can't. STFU and GTFO. Please troll somewhere else on the word wide interwebs.

  • Clearly you + internet = dumbshit troll.

  • "OMG, someone is trying to make me open my eyes! It's toopainful! He must be a troll!"

  • Maybe if you were right you'd be opening our eyes, but your wrong so your either just an idiot or a troll. The developers of the Pandora have been working on this device for years and have been kind enough to show us real pictures and real videos. They are great people and wouldn't try to fake you into something like this. You know whats on that screen? It's a terminal window. You plug your Pandora into your PC and then you launch code from your PC and then it loads on the Pandora.

  • "your wrong"

Sure, just because you would like it to be so...

"You know whats on that screen? It's a terminal window. You plug your Pandora into your PC and then you launch code from your PC and then it loads on the Pandora."

A DOS terminal window that launches code on a GNU OS? That was hilarious.

  • You don't seem to know about ssh or telnet.

He is probably using putty.ssh or some similar program. It just transmitts keyboard input and screen (terminal) output from and to the pc. That is what a remote terminal is used for. It's just like a remote control for your tv - with software like this you can use a computer connected to the net from anywhere in the world, assuming the client is running sshd. See 'man ssh'. The remote OS does not matter, as long as it is running sshd.

  • Hey nitoro I bet your Pandora Dreamcast emulator is excellent.

  • :=O Omg!! this is awesome, CvsSNK2 yep please.... hurry up bitches!!! xD

  • It'd be cool to save a copy of the current version and put it up for download so everyone can play Atari 2600 King of Fighters!

  • Comments on the video:

Glad to see the bios running at full speed at least. That's progress for ya. And I have been waiting for a progress update forever.

I don't blame shenmue for running imperfectly. Getting shenmue to run at all on the dreamcast emulator at this state is like trying to run conkers bad fur day on the psp n64 emulator at its current state. :P

Overall I'd say that I'm happy there's progress being made, and without the NEON chipset!

  • Dreamcast on a handheld device? That's just awesome.

  • Oh wow, Atari 2600 style KoF is the best thing I've seen in a long time! I don't even like fighting games much, but I'd play it for that hehehe...

  • This is awesome. Thank you so much.

  • @arrrgh22

"Its safe to assume 2x faster at least. The current way most fpu opcodes are implemented is from a helper C function, that requires a SLOW move to general registers for parameter passing. And the performance of build-in stuff like fsqrt isn't exactly spectacular :P"

    @DugOLas

"This is rendering at the full pandora resolution (800x480) using gles."

Quoted from drkIIRaziel from the GP32x boards.

  • But it should be noted that when using the NEON, it might not be possible to overclock the Pandora. (Should be noted since this video doesn't use NEON, but is "overclocked")

I'm not sure if this is true, and I don't know if this has been actually tested with the Pandora. But from what I've read about NEON on the Beagleboard and some comments from the GP32x forums, overclocking the CPU will "either lock up or kill the NEON unit until reset". I hope this isn't true... but--

  • And again, let me stress this hasn't been tested and I'm only going by what I've read.

    Don't quote me :P

  • OMG... amazing... just amazing... and still is an early, unoptimized demo!

Keep on going Drk||Raziel! This is just so too good to be true... but I just saw it myself... :D

  • Damn, this is looking great. How much will using NEON help the framerate?

  • Some frameskipping could help till a stable release, but it's still impressive to see Dreamcast on Pandora. Can't wait to see stable release with nice framerate!

  • thats really really impressive.. good job im on the pre-order

  • Very impressive.

  • lol at KoF! Does indeed look like Atari games...

And looks nice so far in general.

  • are you saying that dreamcast may happen on the pandora? WOW

  • It looks like it's pretty damn close to happening.

It will probably speed up a lot once they add NEON to accelerate floating-point calculations.

  • Would love to play Ikaruga or Soul Calibur on the go, that would be stunning :D

  • Ikaruga <3

  • Pandora FTW :)

  • Incredible! It's still early, yes, but WOW. :D

  • is it just amasing

  • I'm just wondering, is this software rendering?
